Chapter 216 Giving Out Gifts
"Old Lady Fang normally liked to keep her parties quiet, and I was wondering what got her to change her mind. Who knew that it had something to do with her favourite grandson." Mrs. Tang said in surprise.
Older people, especially someone like Old Lady Fang liked to keep things simple. All her birthday celebrations has always been simple wuthh only a few people in attendance.
The old lady didn't like crowd as it was a big headache to her.
For her to be doing something big this time around, came as a surprise to everyone who heard about her party.
Most of them like Mrs. Tang were unaware of her intentions, except for a few that were very clear on what her thoughts were.
Even Fang Bingwen who was grandson and the sole reason she was willing to go that extra mile, was not aware of this.
He didn't even have any idea about her birthday party and the plans going on for it, talk more of her invitees.
To the question his son asked, Mr. Tang nodded and replied, "Yes, she did give me an invitation, but I won't have the time to attend her party."
Then with his gaze fixed on Tang Enlai, he said to him, "Enlai, you will attend the Old Lady's birthday party tomorrow on my behalf."
"I will." Tang Enlai replied assuredly before focusing on his dinner.
It was his duty as his father's son to represent him in meetings and events when he instructed to do so. His other brothers were not an exception either.
Hearing all these talks about Mr. Fang and the purpose for the birthday party his grandmother was having the next day, Zhang Xiaoling stiffened on her seat.
As old memories and thoughts about how she had wanted to so desperately end up with him came flooding back to her mind, her fingers around her fork, tightened.
This was the man she wanted to be with it, and not this Tan Enlai and his bunch of annoying family.
As regret washed over her, she reached for the glass of water beside her and hurriedly brought it to her lips.
As the rims touched her lips, her lips slowly parted as her fingers raised the glass slightly.
Downing a little content from the glass, she unhurriedly put it down and clamped hard on her cutlery.
The indifference glint in her eyes changed to that of anger. And with that empty feeling in her chest, she slashed her steak noiselessly, not bothering about the attraction she was getting.
Tang Enlai who was sitting closest to her, felt the change in her emotions and looked toward her. Then pretending not to notice anything, he fixed his gaze back to his food and without warning, his very soft voice sounded next to her.
"What is wrong? You don't want to go to the Fang party with me?" He inquired.
Letting out a deep breath, Zhang Xiaoling spared him a glance and replied in a gritted teeth. "Are you taunting me?'
Tang Enlai scoffed. "The real taunting should be me talking about your dream man in front of everyone." He said before shifting his body away from her.
Out of the corner of her eyes, Zhang Xiaoling sent icy glares his way.
This was the second time he was pissing her off since he returned, causing her to be on the very edge of flaring up.
She didn't really blame him for knowing her secret. She blamed herself for even letting him be aware of that, using it to tease her.
While dating, Zhang Xiaoling had not Hidden her likes and dislikes from Tang Enlai because she did not fancy him hence, she didn't bother to hide the kind of man she wanted to be with from him.
She had in mind of letting him know about it to remind him not to be cocky if they ended up together, but it looks like her intentions was backfiring in her.
Her annoying!
*******
As soon as Zhang Liling finished her dinner and cleared the plates, she hurried to her room to take out the emergency gifts she bought for everyone she was familiar with.
Each present was labelled with a name. There was one for Mr. Fang, Tungmei, Dr. Li, Bolin, the butler, the Chef and the hosuekeeper.
Looking at the wrapped gifts sprawled next to her feet, the corners of Zhang Liling's lips curled as a smile that reached her eyes, appeared on her face.
"This is good..." She said to herself before picking up the gifts she got for the butler and the housekeeper and walked out.
Outside, she found them in the hallway talking about something. But as she appeared in their line of sight, they stopped chatting and turned to glance at her.
Zhang Liling smiled at then whole making her way toward their direction. And before they could say anything to her, she said, "Mr. Gu, Ms. Chu, here are your gifts."
"Wow! Thank you Miss Zhang." Ms. Chu said excitedly as she reached out to accept the small square-shaped she passed to her.
Butler Gu accepted the one she gave to him and thanked her properly.
"It's nothing, it's just a little some thing," Zhang Liking said while waving her hands about.
Seeing the smiles on their faces for the little item she gifted them, she felt a warm feeling in her heart.
Returning to her bedroom, she picked up the small rectangular shaped box that had Mr. Fang's name on the ribbon and giggled to herself.
Not wasting any second, she dashed out of her room and jogged her way uo the stairs to Mr. Fang's bedroom.
Coming to a stop in front of the door, she knocked gently with a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
"Mr. Fang? Are you in?" She asked softly.
Never before has Zhang Liling's voice sounded any gentler than this while knocking on Fang Bingwen's bedroom door.
She seemed to be acting like a cut pet kitten finding its owner.
Knocking again and receiving no response like the first time, she mumbled to herself, "He must still be in his study."
Not losing her smile, she pushed the door open and stepped inside quietly.
