Chapter 223 Keeping Away
Not paying any attention to her protests, Fang Bingwen dragged her to the counter to pay for the items.
There was an unsatisfied look on Zhang Liling's face, but she couldn't stare at him any longer as soon as they appeared before the counter where other people had eyes on them.
Mr. Fang released her hand and dipped his right hand inside his pocket to take out a brown leathered wallet.
Watching his actions, Zhang Liling asked with slightly furrowed brows. "What are you doing?"
He fished out a black card and and said while trying to hand it over to the cashier, "You are not working."
In actual sense, he was not letting her pay for the things she picked because she didn't have any job, so he couldn't watch her make such expenses when he was there.
Anyway, she picked out the items herself while he was merely paying them, but it could still be counted that she bought them.
"Who told you that?" She asked with a tinge of annoyance in her tone.
This was the first time she was displaying this kind of annoyance to him.
He looked at with a questioning brow as if to ask, What do you mean?
Understanding that, she snatched the card from his hands and held tightly to it, before going on to take out her own card and handed it over to the cashier who was done parking up the items.
"Do you think I was idle while only taking care of my mother? Of course, I was doing something useful for myself. I am a graduate, an adult. I have to fend for myself." She said to him.
Seeing that her card has been accepted, she finally handed his card back to him.
A soft sigh escaped from Mr. Fang's lungs as he watched her with interest. Not saying a word, he reached out for his card and put it back into his wallet before slipping it into his pant pocket.
"Thank you for shopping with us. Please do come back next time." The cashier smiled warmly, which tore off their gazes from each other.
Zhang Liling nodded to her with a smile as Mr. Fang took the shopping bags from the counter, and led the way out.
Immediately the stepped outside, the bodyguards who were not allowed to go in with them, hurriedly stepped forward to take the bags from him.
After settling in the back of the car, Fang Bingwen asked while securing his seatbelt.
"It looks like you have been upto a lot of things you didn't talk about."
Glancing his way as the 'click' sound that confirmed that her seatbelt was secured sounded, Zhang Liling smiled at him.
"Are you annoyed that I kept some things away from you?"
He shook his head and shifted his gaze ahead. "I am not in any way annoyed with that. It's your choice. I too had some things I didn't mention."
Zhang Liling: "..."
In the one year they were separated by a long distance, they indeed communicated with each other, but it wasn't quite often.
There was never a time they were able to hold a long conversation because of one thing or the other, but more especially, Mr. Fang wasn't a talker.
Well it was indeed a given for them not to be up to date with whatever they both have been doing. But now they were together they would have to gradually penetrate each others lives and catch up with everything.
Feeling her strong gaze on him, Mr. Fang smiled inwardly, while keeping a poker face outwardly. He could very well tell that the young woman beside him was surprised.
Watching him, and knowing he was aware of her obvious, but was refusing to look at her, she unclapsed her seatbelt and shifted closer to him.
Her little actions immediately attracted his attention as he was forced to glance her way.
Fang Bingwen's shoulder shrinked as he moved to the side a little as if to avoid her, but she still clutched his sturded arms anyway and pressed her soft chest to it.
Flashing him a fawning smile that revealed the two rolls of white teeth in her mouth, she winked and asked in a compelling tone.
"Mr. Fang, tell me, what have you been upto in the past year?"
Fang Bingwen tried to shrug his hands from her hold, but ended up nudging her soft chest.
And that feeling instantly ignited something in his body. Something he wasn't repulsive of, but could actually make him act impulsively.
Zhang Liling fanned her lashes while giving him a cute look, like a child begging for a candy, without even knowing the kind of effect she was having on him.
Inhaling sharply, he managed to say, "Can you let go of my arm? It's not like I'm running away."
What was the use of holding unto him when the car was on the move, and the door was locked? It's not like he was going to evaporate and vanish into the constricted air.
Zhang Liling refused to let go and continued to ask questions. "Mr. Fang, tell me, what have you been up to?"
Seeing that she had no intentions of letting go, he decided to keep mum about it, believing that she would at last get tired and leave him alone at the end.
While ignoring her, he tried to be immune to the feeling of her soft chest rubbing against his sturdy arm, but it really was not easy.
She was his girlfriend, hence he couldn't push her away. Had it been they were still yet to start dating, he wouldn't have indulged this feeling.
Zhang Liling stared at the side view of the man that threw his face away and pouted her lips.
At last, she got tired and let go off his arm to fold her arms right below her chest, propping the two soft mounts on her chest.
The corners of her lips turned downwards as the bright glint in her eyes dimmed.
She was clearly annoyed, and Mr. Fang noticed when he cast a glance to his left side.
