Mr. Fang's Feisty Mistress

Chapter 446 The Reason

Receiving the items her husband had given to her to carry out the operation, Zhang Liling asked.

"Did anything spectacular happen at the site?"

Since she hadn't seen the video yet, and wasn't planning to any time soon, she wanted to know if there was something she should know.

Hearing that question, Secretary Cha was mute for a few seconds before speaking.

"Nothing special happened in the normal routine today."

"Is that so?" Zhang Liling crossed her legs while clasping her fingers.

Now that the woman standing before her was under her husband's surveillance, she got the confidence that she could act a lot more confident than before.

To her probing, Secretary Cha remained quiet for a few more seconds before revealing a piece of information to her.

"It seems like she sent someone to go for an errand in the hospital because she asked me to confirm if the task has been done."

"And you don't know the details of the task? I thought you were her assistant?"

Zhang Liling didn't want to believe that she was ignorant of some of Shi Wenqian's antics, but seeing that she had no reason to lie about it, she tackled her.

"Even though I may be her assistant, she doesn't tell me everything. She has always been like that, and she gets worse especially when she is worked up."

Letting out a sigh, Liling inquired further, "What else do you know?"

"On our way back to the city, she answered a call from one of the men that works for her. It had something to do with Mingyu."

Hearing that it had something to do with Zhang Mingyu, Zhang Liling quickly uncrossed her legs. "What is it?"

"Apparently he got someone pregnant."

Immediately those words reached her ears, her eyes grew wide. 'She knows.'

Zhang Liling could exactly pinpoint how Shi Wenqian came to find out about this news so soon, and this must mean that she could already guess the hint she gave to her at the dining room.

Fortunately, the article has been published so she couldn't even retract it no matter what.

At most, she could just pay a good sum of money for the news to be taken down but by then, the harm will already be done.

Just as she was about to relax, she heard Secretary Cha's next words and froze in shock.

"And she asked someone to take care of the girl."

"What?" Zhang Liling felt as if her heart had frozen in her chest as her breathing hitched.

She didn't need to ask for more explanation for her to know what her stepmother was going to do.

At the moment, it was finally dawning on her that her stepmother knew Mikayla's identity, her relationship with Mingyu and the baby involved.

When did she find out about all of these?

Suddenly, Zhang Liling was scared of Shi Wenqian.

The woman was smart and catching up with her. Soon, she would find out about other things.

Seeing that Zhang Liling seemed to know more about this matter, Secretary Cha turned around left as she was no longer needed.

It took a while for Zhang Liling to snap out of her daze and picked up her phone to do the needful to find the contact she had blacklisted a long time ago.

Finding Zhang Mingyu's contact, she gave him a call up to three times, but there was no response.

As she couldn't keep still, she phoned Fang Bingwen to tell him about it.

"I don't think there is much we can do. Shi Wenqian gave that instruction around 2 in the afternoon and this is a few minutes past 6. It will take a while for me to find Mikayla as I don't know where she lives, but I will try."

Getting a promise that may not yield results, Zhang Liling felt a bit later, but she couldn't sit tight.

Carrying the bowl of soup down the stairs as she had lost her appetite, she continued to try Zhang Mingyu's number, but just then, she heard an ear piercing scream which was followed by a sound of things breaking.

"She must have finally set her eyes on the article." She mumbled to herself.

Turning her gaze around, she heard the sound of footsteps from a man coming in from the entrance door.

While wondering who was back home at this time, she handed the bowl in her hand to a maid to send away as she remained standing in the hallway to wait for the person to appear.

'Zhang Mingyu.'

Seeing the person she had been trying to reach, walk toward her with surprise plastered on his face, the corner of her lips tugged downwards.

"You are here? The other day is was Sister Xiaoling and today its you. Are you both having problems with your marriages at the same time for you to keep coming here?"

Folding her arms below her chest as he stopped in front of her, Zhang Liling retorted. "Was your stupid conclusion the reason you ignored my calls?"

Sensing her anger, the smile on Zhang Mingyu's face became more meaningful. "I was driving. I was going to return the call as soon as I settled in.

Honestly, I was surprised to get a call from you, and I am even more shocked to see you waiting at home. Perhaps, did you come all the way here for my sake?"

Seeing that he was still able to have fund and teaser her, Zhang Liling was sure that he was very ignorant of what was happening both with the articles and his mother's plans.

He was truly as ignorant as a new born baby.

"You are right, I came all the way here for your sake. I came to make fun of you." Saying that to his face, she turned half of her attention to her phone and just then, they both heard something breaking from one of the rooms downstairs.

"Is that my mother?" Zhang Mingyu asked with a look of confusion glancing past Liling's face.

"You are right. Wait until you see the reason."

Knowing that he might want to go check his mother out, she stopped him by showing him the first page of the article published about him.

"Now you know the reason she is screaming. You better not go anywhere near her."

Finally, Zhang Mingyu understood the reason she said that she had come all the way to the house just for his sake.

He was in the news... with Mikayla.

Although the lady's face wasn't shown clearly, he knew that she was the one. Her outfit and her figure, he could recognize.

Also, she was the only one he was going out with at the moment, and having been with her for a while, he could recognize her even if her face was blurred out.

"H-How d-did this news get out?" His quivering lips uttered.

He was too shocked that he could only utter those words.

Right where she was standing, Zhang Liling could hear the sound of his heartbeats. 'He must be really scared.'

Putting her phone away, she heard him say, "No, I must explain to mum. This marriage can't be called off. S-She will help me."

Knowing what was at stake with the news currently making rounds in the internet, he was going to go find his mother to beg for mercy and also ask for help, but Liling pulled his arm immediately.

"Are you a fool? Should you be concerned about your wedding to the Ong family or about someone else?"

Meeting his confused gaze, she questioned further as she reduced her tone.

"Now that your mother knows about Mikayla and the child, what do you think she is going to do to her?"

As soon as that question reached his ears, a few scenes from his mother's factory started to play in his head.

Although he wanted the child to be rid off, he didn't want anything to happen to Mikayla because he truly liked her.

Also, she didn't do anything that would warrant him to let any harm come to her. So without another word, he turned his back and quickly left while trying to get to Mikayla on phone.

Seeing him leave the house, Zhang Liling believed that he was not at least heartless like his mother to not care about the life of someone that is close to him just because of some selfish interest.

A little reassured, Zhang Liling left her room. If she hadn't found out from Secretary Cha that Shi Wenqian already knew about Mikayla's existence and pregnancy before she saw the article, she could have blamed herself for any harm that may come to that girl's life.

***

On his way driving to Mikayla's place, Zhang Mingyu began to wonder if she was the one that released that article to the public, but after recalling the last conversation he had with her and the agreement they reached, he changed his train of thoughts.

Knowing Mikayla very well, he knew that she wouldn't do anything that would short-change her.

She would be running her life if she did something like that when she could lead a better life staying mute and doing the right thing.
