Chapter 47: You Owe Me
When Zhao Lifei walked towards the busy streets ready to hail down a cab, a hand suddenly grabbed her. She turned around, ready to tell Yang Feng off, but then she noticed his abnormally pale skin. Cold beads of sweat gathered on his forehead and his eyes were unfocused.
"Hey, are you alright?" She nervously asked him, allowing him to lean towards her frail stature. Zhao Lifei nearly tripped over her own feet as she tried to support his muscular build.
Yang Feng didn’t respond, instead, he buried his head on the crook of her neck. She looked down and saw his eyes were painfully squeezed together. His grip was beginning to get tighter now, nearly pinching her skin.
A few meters away and securely hidden behind a big statue was a paparazzi. He was just strolling through the streets when his keen eyes picked up the reputable Yang Feng. His luck was exceptionally good today because he was able to take a very intimate picture of the couple.
Completely oblivious to the camera, Zhao Lifei focused her attention onto the heavy man leaning on her.
"Yang Feng?" She called out, growing worried at his unhealthy complexion. With her free hand, she grabbed her phone to call an ambulance but he reached out to force her hand back down.
"I’m...fine." He breathed out, but his voice seemed really constrained.
"No, you’re not. You’re really pale and-"
A black Maybach abruptly stopped in front of them, interrupting her from talking. "Get in the car." Chen Gaonan says as he hurriedly steps out from the passenger seat.
He was grateful to see his boss had managed to lean on someone for support instead of collapsing outside where everyone can see.
It would be bad if his enemies also saw his weakness of a fatal allergy. It was already rumored he was severely allergic to something, but none of his enemies knew what it was. Only Yang Feng’s trusted companions knew and that was barely more than five people. It wouldn’t be hard to intercept the front desk and ask about any food deliveries.
"Who are you?" Zhao Lifei frowned at the presence of a stranger.
"His secretary." Chen Gaonan was slightly surprised to see her in person. It was weird seeing someone in person after digging so intensely into their background. She didn’t know it, but he knew a lot about her already.
Without waiting for Zhao Lifei’s reply, Chen Gaonan started to half drag, half carry his boss’s heavy body into the car. However, even in his state, Yang Feng held on tightly to Zhao Lifei and would not let go. It seemed he wouldn’t get into the car without her in tow. Obliging to his stubborn wishes, she brushed her thoughts of leaving aside and climbed into the car with him.
"Do you have an Epipen [1]?" She worriedly asked Chen Gaonan the moment they got inside the car. He quickly nodded and pulled out a yellow stick. Within seconds, Chen Gaonan had uncapped it and with a harsh force, stabbed it onto Yang Feng’s thigh. It was the perfect pressure and location because instantly, his complexion was looking a lot better.
Zhao Lifei breathed a sigh of relief she didn’t know she was holding. It was then she realized their awkward position. Yang Feng had moved his grip from her arm to tightly wrap it around her waist, his head leaned once again on her shoulder, and they were sitting so close that their legs touched.
She glanced down at Yang Feng’s peaceful expression. Her eyes trailed up his lips to his eyes, where dark circles were heavily visible. She sighed, knowing it was better to let him sleep than wake him up just because she was uncomfortable.
Chen Gaonan noticed their intimate position but looked as if he didn’t witness anything out of the blue.
The car was stuffy and filled with awkward tension, so Zhao Lifei decided to be the first to speak up. "Do you know what might’ve triggered the allergic reaction?" She curiously asked, thinking back to the dishes. If he was allergic to something, why didn’t he say so?
"Boss is severely allergic to scallops. Luckily, Young Master Yulong was able to text me in time before his airways had fatally constricted." Chen Gaonan sighed, remembering the urgency he felt when he received the message from Yulong. Thankfully, Chen Gaonan was near the building when the scene unfolded.
Zhao Lifei felt her throat tighten and her fingers curl into a fist. He was allergic to scallops?! But he readily ate the food she gave him! If he was allergic to it, why didn’t he speak up? Was this crazy man seeking death?
All he had to do was push the food away and tell her he couldn’t eat scallops. Not only did he refuse to inform her, but he ate it with such a happy expression no one would think he was feeding himself something akin to poison.
Her lips pressed into a thin line as she stared at Yang Feng. He was peacefully sleeping on her shoulder as if it was the most comfortable position in the world. It was guaranteed that he will be waking up sore as he was too tall to be straining his neck just so he can lean on her. She sighed at how stubborn he was.
"Mr. Chen, we have arrived at boss’s house." The chauffeur spoke up, looking at them through the rearview mirror. All the times Hu Wei had Ms. Zhao at the backseat, one of them always ends up sleeping on the other. He was thoroughly convinced that the title of lady boss will belong to her soon.
"I apologize if this favor seems rude, but Ms. Zhao, would you mind helping me carry the boss into his house?" Chen Gaonan asked, eager to know if the woman his boss is clearly interested in would agree. His boss rarely showed interest to any woman and this would be the first time one had made it this far!
Zhao Lifei nodded. "Sure, I don’t mind." She lied, even though she was really reluctant to carry him.
He towered over her, Chen Gaonan, and even some of his bodyguards. With her earlier experience of having to drag his slender yet muscular built for a few steps to the car, she knew she would be having a hard time with this endeavor.
Carrying Yang Feng back into his enormous mansion took a lot of work, but eventually, the two of them was able to drag him into his room.
Chen Gaonan was impressed by Zhao Lifei’s lack of complaints. If she disliked the two flights of stairs they had to climb up to reach his room, she didn’t voice it out loud. As a matter of fact, she didn’t seem annoyed at all.
He thought that was strange because when he last dug into her history, she was notoriously known as a spoiled and bad-tempered woman.
Perhaps she didn’t want to look bad in front of Yang Feng? But he was currently unconscious, and she could have easily rejected him.
Just as the two placed Yang Feng onto the bed, Chen Gaonan received a call. Seeing it was his wife, he quickly went outside to pick up the urgent call.
Zhao Lifei pursed her lips as she puffed for air. She wondered what he ate so much to be so heavy?! She continued to blame his height and muscles. She will probably never ogle at his muscular build after having to endure his weight through all those flights of stairs.
"You owe me big time for this." She tiredly mumbled, poking his cheeks. He was laying on his blanket, and she tried her best to pull it out from under him so he can be covered. In the end, only his torso ended up with a blanket over it.
After wasting so much energy on him, Zhao Lifei had grown extremely tired. She noticed the couch on the opposite side of the black, minimalistic room. Dragging her legs, she slowly walked to it and the minute she sat, Zhao Lifei could feel her consciousness slipping. Soon, she was laying on the couch with her body curled into a ball. Within seconds, she was asleep.
