Chapter 49: Plans
Chapter 49: Plans
The falling Hollow Purple pierced through space, obliterating the entire White House! The political center of the United States, a national symbol with a history of hundreds of years, vanished in an instant, leaving nothing behind but a bottomless pit.
As soon as the event occurred, all military leaders received the news. Hidden away in various secret military bases, they watched the footage captured by surveillance satellites.
From the moment Alex, the "White-Haired Mutant," appeared, to the lingering blood mist surrounding the White House, the fierce battle against the X-Men, the terrifying shockwaves, and the destructive force that wiped out everything within several kilometers—everything was recorded.
Finally, they saw Alex mockingly flipping off the sky before effortlessly dismantling dozens of Sentinel robots, entering the White House, killing the President, and using a devastating purple ball attack to obliterate the historic White House.
The military leaders were furious—this was a blatant challenge to the entire United States! But more than that, they were afraid. Alex had already proven he could survive a nuclear blast unscathed; they no longer had any means to kill him. Especially now that Alex had begun his revenge, acquiring their personal information from the now-deceased, powerless President. Given Alex's extraordinary tracking abilities, he would undoubtedly hunt them down and kill them one by one.
"No, we must restart the plan against Alex. We are in a fight to the death; he won't spare us!" one general said with a face full of fear during an emergency meeting.
Another general, equally terrified, recalled the unprecedented disaster at the White House and the surveillance satellite footage of Alex, who seemed to be looking down on them from above. His soul trembled as he spoke, "We need to fully support Colonel Stryker's research. He has deep insights into mutants, particularly in developing Sentinel robots that can possess multiple mutant abilities. The future potential to counter that monster is enormous!"
"But the previous battles have proven that Sentinel robots are no match for Alex," another general responded, clearly troubled and lacking confidence.
The first general quickly retorted, "No, the current Sentinel robots are only in their initial stages. The ultimate plan for the Sentinels is for them to replicate and store mutant abilities, sharing them among all Sentinel units. They can use different mutant abilities to target specific threats."
Yet other generals remained skeptical, "But Alex's strength has surpassed anything that sheer numbers can overcome. His mutant abilities are so versatile—ranging from long-range to close combat, offense to defense—that he has reached the pinnacle of what mutants can achieve! Even if the Sentinel robots could collect all the mutant abilities in the world, and even if there were thousands of them, they wouldn't be able to harm Alex. His repulsive force attack alone could wipe them out effortlessly."
"No!" The first general countered. "The Sentinel project has one final concept: the Sentinels should be able to enhance the limits of any mutant ability! If we can elevate the upper limit of spatial attacks, we could break through Alex's impenetrable defenses. If we can boost the upper limit of an indestructible body, we won't fear Alex's attacks! And we have discovered a particularly unique ability—one that erases all nearby mutant abilities. Although this ability might not affect Alex now, if we enhance it to its full potential, it could certainly be used against him!"
"But this is just a theory. With our current technology, it's nearly impossible to achieve," another general argued.
The general advocating for Colonel Stryker gave a confident smile and clapped his hands. Two people entered the meeting room: one was a tattoo-covered man who looked like a street thug, and the other had an odd appearance with eerie green skin and an oversized head.
Most of the generals recognized the first man as Ivan Vanko, a terrorist who had recently attacked Tony Stark at a race. However, none of them knew the second person.
Seeing the confused looks from the other generals, the general supporting Colonel Stryker grinned confidently, "Trust me, Dr. Stern and Dr. Vanko will not disappoint you!"
Outside, Colonel Stryker ordered the end of the illusion control on the generals and smirked sinisterly. "Alex, just you wait!"
...
At Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, in a hidden laboratory, Jean Grey was using her newly mastered Phoenix Force to heal Cyclops.
During the battle with Alex, Jean had been easily defeated by him and was nearly killed after being hit by the Red. But in that critical moment, she managed to tap into part of the Phoenix Force and survived.
Quicksilver had rescued everyone afterward, but even with his speed, he couldn't get them out unscathed. Besides Wolverine, who remained unharmed due to his adamantium skeleton and healing factor, the others suffered various degrees of injury.
Cyclops had lost over half of his body to the terrifying repulsive force. If not for Jean's immediate use of the Phoenix Force to heal him, Cyclops would have already died. The others had also suffered broken limbs and more, but they too recovered quickly thanks to the Phoenix Force.
Jean had just finished using her matter-restructuring abilities to restore Professor X's lower body, ensuring the X-Men were now fully healed.
But despite this, none of them felt any relief. The atmosphere in the lab was heavy with tension, the shadow of Alex hanging over them like a dark cloud, suffocating their spirits.
Suddenly, Cyclops punched the nearby wall in frustration. As his fist collided with the wall, red blood began to trickle down its surface. "Banshee is dead, Darwin is dead, countless civilians are dead, and the Mutant Liberation Act will never be passed. All our efforts were for nothing, our dreams are nothing but a joke in the face of Alex! We have to kill him; we must kill him!"
This time, not even Professor X intervened. Their hearts were filled with hatred toward Alex. He was not only their enemy but also the greatest obstacle to peace between mutants and humans. But then they fell into silence once more—how could they possibly kill someone as powerful as Alex?
All eyes turned to Jean Grey. Now that she had mastered part of the Phoenix Force, she had a strong chance of fully controlling it, and potentially even obtaining more fragments of the Phoenix Force. She was their only hope!
