My CEO Husband Can Hear My Inner Thoughts

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

"Madam, you must go to the hospital immediately, something terrible has happened!"

Auntie Zhang, who had worked in the prestigious Qi family for many years and remained unflappable even when the old sow in the backyard inexplicably became pregnant, came running over looking panicked.

Hearing the voice, Yi Qingju, who had been curled up on the sofa baring her teeth at the sexy naked man on the screen, quickly switched the livestream to a financial news channel.

Petite with a palm-sized face and a pair of pitiful cat-like eyes, the young girl obediently turned her head towards the new arrival.

"Auntie Zhang, what's happened? Did the sow in the backyard get pregnant with a second litter?"

Auntie Zhang grieved, "It's the master."

Yi Qingju's phone clattered to the ground.

"The master is pregnant with twins!?"

Auntie Zhang quickly tutted.

"The master coughed today and is already in the hospital. As his wife, you should reasonably go take a look."

"Oh, how distressing. Do I really have to go in person?"

No sooner had the words left her mouth than her freshly picked up phone crashed to the ground again.

Reflected in the fully shattered screen was her shocked expression.

"What did you say? Who coughed?"

Auntie Zhang sympathetically repeated herself, aware of the young girl's deafness at such a tender age.

Yi Qingju's body went limp, and if not for Auntie Zhang's quick reflexes to steady her, the petite girl would have slumped to the ground.

Auntie Zhang couldn't help but sigh deeply.

Although they were only nominally husband and wife, everyone in the capital knew Yi Qingju loved Qi Weiran with no dignity or shame, right down to her bones. She was even willing to give up her freedom.

Now, sure enough, adversity reveals true feelings.

Yi Qingju shook in disbelief as she slowly lifted her head.

"Are you saying that my billionaire husband with countless assets under his name and an iron constitution that could take down Lü Bu has *coughed*—"

"He did," Auntie Zhang solemnly nodded her head.

"Heaven bless us!" Yi Qingju wept tears of joy.

The frail girl who usually couldn't walk three steps without panting leapt up like a gazelle and charged towards the door.

Auntie Zhang: "..."

For some reason, she felt the Madam seemed more severe.

With the astonished gazes of the servants trailing her, Yi Qingju sprinted all the way to the garage.

The jet black, sleek and domineering Knight XV, known as the king of off-roaders and land rulers, was parked there, impossible to overlook.

She walked up to it and, with a flick of her slender, snow-white wrist, arrogantly pressed the car key fob.

"It's decided, you're the one, my knight."

The five-star Hongguang Mini EV in the corner responded with a 'beep beep' to her summons.

On the top floor of Capital No.1 People's Hospital, a group of doctors wearing white coats yet varying drastically in skin color, evidently from different countries, were huddled together and discussing something with grave expressions on their faces.

There were many people but they spoke in hushed voices, seemingly afraid to disturb someone.

So when that soft, whispery voice rang out, it gave the old fellows a fright.

"Hello, excuse me, which way is Qi Weiran's room?"

Hearing that name, the doctors in white coats whipped their heads around in unison.

Before them stood a petite young girl in flimsy clothing. Her bright, limpid eyes were fixed on them.

Perhaps because her outfit was too light for the blustery weather, or because she had rushed over too hastily, her palm-sized face was reddened by the wind, evoking a tender desire to protect her.

Seeing their lack of response, the girl's fine brows knitted together. Her somewhat pale lips parted lightly as she repeated, "Excuse me? Do you know which room Qi Weiran keeled over dead in?"

The doctors: "..."

The eldest among them, a Western doctor with bright blue eyes, pointed to the room at the very end of the corridor and replied in fluent, standard Chinese, "Mr. Qi is in the innermost room."

The girl thanked him and as she turned to leave, they heard her mumble softly under her breath, "Tsk, d*mn."

Facing the door, Yi Qingju took a deep breath.

Right on cue, an icy robotic voice sounded in her mind —

[Task target detected, host must stay in character. Out of character behavior will result in electric shocks.]

Yi Qingju instantly dropped her formerly nonchalant look, deftly taking out a bottle of eye drops to administer into her eyes.

After rhythmically tapping three times, she retracted her hand.

Soon, that captivating low voice flowed out from within, enough to make one's legs turn soft.

Pushing the door open, the scene was not what she had envisioned — the man lying weakly in bed, coughing.

He hadn't chosen that large, comfortable-looking bed.

Instead, he was seated on a leather couch to the side, long legs casually crossed. Wrapped in tailored suit pants, they appeared even more slender.

Beneath his gelled-back hair was a full forehead and outstanding brow ridge.

The man had a strong bone structure, as exquisite as a classical sculpture by a Western master, stunningly handsome.

Hearing the sound, he raised his tawny eyes the color of amber from the documents in his hands to glance at the visitor.

That was the crowning feature of his outstanding looks.

Yi Qingju carelessly closed the door behind her and shuffled towards Qi Weiran under his gaze, step by tiny step.

Qi Weiran silently watched her, mentally counting down from three.

As he had anticipated, when the short three second countdown ended, the girl's lips moved but instead of speaking, tears fell first.

She looked grief-stricken as if the man before her was not Qi Weiran himself but his memorial tablet.

Facing a girl who seemed intent on crying herself dry, although the man maintained his earlier impassive expression, the coldness in his eyes betrayed his impatience.

Just as he lifted a hand to order someone to drive Yi Qingju out, he suddenly clenched his fist and coughed once.

The girl who had been weeping inconsolably instantly bugged out her cat-like eyes, even briefly forgetting her distress. She cried out in disbelief, "Master! What's wrong, why did you cough? What will I do if something happens to you!"

Hearing her anguished wailing as if cursing him to his death, Qi Weiran started to part his lips—

But that familiar melodious voice rang out once more instead.

[Is this considered coughing? Hit me with them gold coins!]

[How else can I survive if not waiting to inherit all your assets after your funeral to dance on your grave!]
