My Evil Stepson System

Chapter 7 07. Meeting With Uncle.

Kevin's uncle, Lucky, was a detective in Ruby City and he had a lot of connections with officers from Emerald City.

The mention of cities wasn't new to Kevin, especially since he now had his memories from both his previous and current life.

In this new world that he was reincarnated to, there were four cities, with each of them being the size of the largest continent from his previous world, Earth.

The cities included Ruby City (where he had been raised since childhood), Emerald City (The City his current university was located), as well as Diamond and Amber City.

Thinking back, his life had changed for the better since he made the decision to reincarnate.

The only thing he needed right now for his new life to be perfect was to have his mother alive and by his side.

It didn't matter if his father had remarried, as long as he could see his mother again, that was all that mattered to Kevin.

"I'll drop you off at the train station. You have to meet your uncle at this restaurant." The cop passed Kevin a piece of paper with the name of a restaurant written on it.

"Thank you," Kevin replied, accepting the paper.

A few hours later. Kevin boarded the train, and he was at Ruby City before long.

He glanced at the paper once again and boarded a cab straight to the restaurant.

___

Kevin was currently sitting on the reserved seat in a fancy restaurant while his uncle was just about to take a seat at the table.

He had changed his clothes before boarding the train so that he could conceal his bandaged arm from his uncle.

His uncle tied his long black hair into a ponytail and wore a blue coat over a white shirt and a dark blue tie, complemented by blue trousers.

It had been ages since Kevin last saw his favourite uncle, there was no way Kevin wouldn't drain his uncle's pocket a little.

Since they were here, it was obvious that his uncle was going to pay for their meal.

In front of Kevin was a huge plate of fries with two large turkey wings and a side of ketchup. He had also ordered spaghetti and he was awaiting its arrival.

"Wow, Kevin, you've grown up nicely since I last saw you," Uncle Lucky beamed with genuine joy.

"Yeah, Just keeping fit by lifting some weights and playing football. After all, I've gotta stay in shape."

Uncle Lucky was genuinely glad to see his favourite and only nephew again after so many years and Kevin could see how excited his uncle was to see him.

Uncle Lucky knew that Kevin had needed a little time alone to sort out his emotions, so rather than telling him how sorry he was for something he didn't even do, he decided to do everything he could to help find Kevin's mother.

If she was truly dead, then he would try his best to find her body.

"And you? How has work been?" Kevin asked.

Uncle Lucky clenched his hands and forced a smile. "Work is going great. Thanks for asking."

[I doubt that. Can't you see those wrinkles and bags underneath his eyes.]

[He needs to sleep and rest for a while or else he will not live long.]

'Shut up.' Kevin internally retorted.

[What! I'm only saying the truth.]

Kevin rolled his eyes and sighed deeply. What the parasite said wasn't actually a lie, and he knew the reason why his uncle was in such a miserable state right now.

"You don't have to pretend uncle."

"What?"

"I know you've been doing everything in your power to find my mother even though others had given up on the search already."

Uncle Lucky's expression changed into pure sadness. He could feel the emotions of the words coming out of Kevin's lips.

Kevin had always been someone that was cheerful and happy but now, it looked like he was staring at someone completely different.

"Is there anything you've discovered so far?" Kevin asked, his voice trembling as tears began to fill his eyes.

Uncle Lucky was contemplating how to break it to Kevin.

Eventually, he decided to just tell him.

"I'm sorry Kevin. I've found nothing new. I am truly sorry, but I won't rest until I find her. It's the least I can do for you and my brother." Lucky confessed.

"I see." Kevin muttered.

No matter how hard he tried, the tears in his eyes seemed to seep out.

It had been a long time since he'd cried and he had promised himself not to cry until he saw his mother again. Dead or alive.

Kevin didn't like how the atmosphere suddenly changed into a sad one.

He forced a smile onto his face and said. "Thanks for everything."

Uncle Lucky forces a smile as well. "Anytime kiddo. You're free to order anything you want."

Uncle Lucky hoped this would at least help cheer Kevin up a little.

"Thanks, I appreciate it. But Uncle, don't tell me you are still single." Kevin teased.

Uncle Lucky smiled wryly and stared down at the coffee mug in front of him.

"I am. You know that it's difficult to find women you can fully trust nowadays. Furthermore, if I got married, how would I be able to take care of my adorable nephew?"

Uncle Lucky smiled as he took five large gulps of his coffee.

[Aww, he's lonely.]

[He's going to grow old and die quickly if he doesn't settle down with a wife soon.]

'I said shut up.' Kevin responded internally.

[Make me.] She retorted with a huff.

Kevin facepalmed, then smiled towards his Uncle Lucky once again.

"Anyway, you should know you aren't getting any younger. Very soon you will have nothing but old grannies to ask out on a date."

"Haha, you little rascal, you never cease to amaze me. Well, that's enough about me. I have a meeting in an hour and I would love to keep my job, thank you. So if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to contact me."
