Chapter 71: Invitation by the Villagers
"Here, the beast's powerful spirit energy is thumping inside this core. We can sell it to buy some ration for the villagers if we could travel back to the city." She said, holding up the beast core.
The crimson-haired beauty had already figured out the way to better use it for their task of accumulating food for a village's family.
Yue Yan nodded, taking the beast core from Ling'er's spread palm. He stored it carefully in his spatial storage.
"And what about the beast's body?" Ling'er said, pointing down at the one-meter creature's body.
The girl indicated him to store the blood-devouring rabbit's corpse as it was their most important quest item.
"Don't worry," A faint smile flashed on Yue Yan's face, holding out his hand.
With a quick thought, he stored the blood-devouring rabbit's body which disappeared into his system inventory.
Ling'er and Bing'er watched in surprise, as the boy stored the beast's body in a second.
Yue Yan said, "It's just the first one, we have to keep moving, there are still four hours left before sunset."
"Then let's go" The crimson-haired beauty turned to lead her companions deeper into the forest.
They had many more beasts to slay for their special mission, but the trio needed to do it before it was dark as they had to return to the Silver moon village. Moreover, they had two weeks to finish their task so they could take it slow.
The Shangguan sisters didn't worry about going back as they knew how fast the golden lion was.
With Ling'er in the lead, Yue Yan and Bing'er continued their journey deeper into the forest, staying cautious as they were attentive for any dangers on their way.
They traveled for hours, encountering more blood-devouring rabbits along the way.
But with Ling'er's skilled swordplay and the protection of the guardian shield provided by Yue Yan, they were able to overcome each of these beasts.
Yue Yan assisted her using his bubble shield as the crimson-haired beauty could come inside it but the beasts cannot. This annoyed the blood-devouring rabbit even more, leading the beast to its demise even faster.
By the time the sun began to dip below the horizon and the dense forest started growing darker, they encountered six blood-devouring rabbits which Ling'er slaughtered easily but they received only one more beast core as the last two didn't have any.
After killing the last blood-devouring rabbit, the trio decided to make their way back to the edge of the forest, in the direction of the silver moon village.
The sun was just orange on the horizon, and they knew they needed to return to the village before night fell.
Yue Yan summoned the golden lion, and the three of them climbed atop its back.
They rode through the forest at a breakneck pace, their eyes fixed in the direction of the village as their clothes and hair fluttered along the way by passing wind current.
The boy stopped his mount a hundred meters away from the village as they were going to hide the fact they had the assistance of the Golden Lion.
"I will bring out the four beast's bodies here then we will have to drag it to the village's warehouse." Yue Yan said in a calm voice as they dismounted.
"Let's make a makeshift container first so the beast's body doesn't get ruined," Ling'er spoke in an eager tone as she suggested and unsheathed her sword to gather the materials that were required to finish the task.
She worked quickly, using her sharp long sword to strip branches from nearby trees. Bing'er and Yue Yan gathered it in one place.
Yue Yan wove the branches together to create a rough but sturdy frame, while Ling'er used vines to secure the sides. In no time at all, the trio had constructed a makeshift bucket-type container that was big enough to carry ten beasts of blood-devouring rabbit's size.
"It's done," Ling'er said, patting her hand with a satisfied smile.
The boy nodded and moved to take one of the vines that were connected to the bucket-type container before dragging it toward the village.
Ling'er didn't understand at first but soon her eyes lit up as she followed in and took one of the vines to continue walking alongside him. Bing'er just went after the two strange figures who were dragging an empty bucket acting as if it was very heavy.
Soon, they were greeted by the warm glow of the village lights flickering in the small houses of villagers.
Yue Yan brought out the four bodies of Blood-devouring rabbits from his system inventory that appeared in the bucket-like container that they had created.
The weight they were dragging became heavier as it was filled with the bodies of six blood-devouring rabbits, leaving a trail behind as they traveled toward their destination.
As they entered the village gates, they immediately caught the attention of villagers as a crowd gathered to follow them.
It didn't take them long to notice what it was as Villagers cheered and clapped, amazed at the size of the six beasts and the ingenuity of the trio who were bringing the food right after arriving at the village for their special mission.
They were impressed as these kids had done their task on the very first day after coming to the village. Other students didn't go hunting today as they were making their living place in the village using the materials present in mother nature, by the time they finished it was already late so they decided to go the next day.
Ling'er and Bing'er beamed with happiness, knowing that they had successfully completed one-fourth of their task and brought a valuable source of food to the village that would fix some of their problems.
"Those beast looks fresh... How did they do it?"
"It's probably a special skill related to their spirit"
"I don't think we have a chance to become the victor since they have a big lead from the very first day."
Whisperers of Students resounded in the air as they talked to each other about the trio and saw how one of the team was able to get way ahead of them on their first day. An unwavering glint shone in their eyes as they were motivated to surpass this number.
These students didn't know that Ling'er's team had a very big advantage known as 'Yue Yan' who was blessed to have the incarnation of Goddess Cang Xue, Legendary Saintess, Ice princess, Guardian Shield, and Golden Lion by his side that gave their team invincible trump card which was near impossible to surpass.
Soon, the trio made their way toward the warehouse accompanied by the crowd of villagers.
Dong Ju come out of his living quarter, hearing the cheers and commotion as he saw what was happening.
"Ah???" The village head's son was dumbfounded by the number of beasts they had brought and looked at the bodies it was clear as if it was killed dozen minutes ago.
"Please store these rations we brought for the village," Ling'er said, taking the role of the leader.
"Oh... Sorry. I will do..." Dong Ju come out of his daze state as he hovered his hand and store all the blood-devouring rabbit bodies in his Spatial storage from the bucket-like container.
After the bucket was empty, Yue Yan dragged it away toward their living quarter, confirming no one was seeing, and the verdant makeshift container vanished into his inventory.
Ling'er and Bing'er were standing with the villagers as all the people were gazing at the beautiful Shangguan Sisters.
When Yue Yan returned he noticed Dong Ju was showing his gratitude, "Thank You for bringing this much food on your very first day. I didn't think there will be a group of students who won't even care about their resting and going to the forest just after arriving here."
Hearing the praise, Ling'er was radiating with happiness, Bing'er was also joyous in her heart as they were both delighted to help the poor villagers who were attacked by the black-robed man, who destroyed their food sources.
Dong Ju said sincerely, "If you guys don't mind, will you join us at the bonfire? We want to celebrate it with everyone as they are all happy as you can see on their faces."
The village head's son took the lead to invite them to the bonfire as villagers were eager to invite them and celebrate it. Although it wasn't the completion of their task but they were impressed by the trio's selfless effort to bring food for them.
They were poor people who lived far from the city and didn't care about rankers or spirits, but they still wanted to welcome these students, especially these three kids to their village by hosting an enjoyable bonfire for them.
Ling'er was surprised by the invitation as she was asked to join in the bonfire. She looked at her sister and Yue Yan, who nodded giving their approval.
