Chapter 286 Stupid
It was nighttime, everywhere was dark, nobody was moving around and the neighborhood was very quiet, an indication that everyone had gone to bed.
The time being displayed on the wall clock in Dave's living room was 1:15 AM, and upstairs Dave was lying on the bed fast asleep alongside Emma was also fast asleep with her right arm placed on his body.
"What was that?" The goalkeeper mumbled before he slowly opened his eyes.
He turned his gaze to Emma who was sleeping peacefully beside him before slowly turning away toward the room's exit.
<A dream, maybe>
'Wait? You didn't see it?'
<I don't have access to your dreams unless you turn on dream control>
'Oh, I see.'
<So, what did you see?>
'Um….I can't really explain.' He said subconsciously before placing his hand on his chin.
<Just tell me what you saw>
'Okay, fine.' He replied. 'I was at the goalpost when suddenly a lot of balls came flying toward me. It was shocking but I wasn't able to save any of them, and after it was over, a hand came stretching toward me.
<Who's hand?>
'I don't know, I didn't see any faces. I was hesitant at first, but I later decided to grab it, and just as I was about to grab it, everywhere went dark and I started falling into an endless pit until I woke up.'
<That is quite a strange dream>
'Yeah, do you know what it means?'
<Well, deciphering strange dreams isn't one of my functions so, no>
'Oh, I see, it's no big deal anyway, it's just a dream.' He said subconsciously before slowly shifting away from Emma's side, and after that, he slowly removed her hands from his body.
<If you're thirsty then wake her up and ask her to go downstairs and get it for you>
'I can get it myself, I don't want to disturb her by this time of the night.'
<Okay, then, suit yourself, but don't say I didn't warn you>
He tried to bring his left foot down first, but just as he was about to do that, his body moved a little to the edge of the bed and slipped out causing him to crash down to the floor and creating quite a nose from his impact.
"Arghhhh." He groaned as he rolled both ways on the floor.
His groaning was a bit loud, and that was all that was needed to wake Emma up.
She slowly opened her eyes and rubbed them with her right hand before she turned her gaze to the side and blinked a couple of times to see that Dave really wasn't there.
"What's going on?" She mumbled.
"Arghhhh."
"Dave?"
She quickly shifted to the edge of the bed to see Dave lying on the floor.
'Oh, it's fading away.'
"What are you doing on the floor? Did I do this?"
The goalkeeper quickly raised his gaze to see Emma looking at him from the bed.
"Emma?" He said with a shocked expression on his face.
'I didn't know that would wake her.'
"No, this wasn't your doing in any way." He said with a nervous look on his face.
"Then what happened?" She asked before she stepped down from the bed and quickly made her way to the light switch to turn the lights on.
"Um….I was thirsty and didn't want to disturb you so I decided to go downstairs and grab a glass of water." He didn't know why yet, but that nervous feeling just couldn't go away.
She stared at him for a while from her standing position before she quickly knelt beside him and that was when he realized what he was nervous about, she didn't have the nicest looks on her face.
"When will you stop being stupid? I thought that stupidity of yours has gone away a bit but you still have some if not all of it in here." She said before giving him a light tap on his forehead. "Haven't I told you that it's not good to be moving around carelessly in your condition?"
"I know, I just didn't want to disturb you." The goalkeeper muttered.
"As long as you're in this condition, it's okay for you to disturb me for anything I need, waking me up while I am fast asleep is okay too, I don't mind." She said before she helped him to get on the bed again.
"Don't you know you can fall down the staircase and that will make things worse for you? Is that what you want?"
"No." The goalkeeper said before shaking his head.
<I told him, but he wouldn't listen>
"Don't scare me like that again, please." She said before turning to the exit. "I'll go get the water now."
He kept his gaze on her until she was out of the room before he let out a sigh.
<You should try listening to me more often>
It took her about four minutes to return upstairs with a glass of water in her hand.
"Here you go." She said before handing him the glass of water.
The goalkeeper quickly took down the contents of the glass after taking it, and after that, he dropped it on top of the cupboard beside the bed.
"Thank you."
She replied with a nod as she stretched her right hand while using her left hand to cover her mouth as she yawned.
"Just tell me if you need anything else."
After saying that, she climbed onto the bed and turned to the other side.
"I hope you don't have anything else to deal with before morning, good night." She mumbled before closing her eyes.
Dave stared at her for a while before a smile appeared on his face.
"I better go to bed too." He muttered with a weak voice before he slowly laid down on the bed and dozed off.

It took a couple of hours to reach and now that they were done with breakfast, Dave was sitting on the couch with his arms crossed and he didn't have the nicest expression on his face.
Emma was making her way to the couch with her laptop in her hand when he slowly turned his gaze to her.
"I really don't like the idea of you moving me around everywhere and doing everything." He said.
"Me too, but I can't just stand by and watch you suffer." She said before she sat down on the couch and dropped her laptop on the table. "I just hope Miss. Nelly will allow me to work from home if not…."
"Even if she allows you to work from home, you'll still need to go to matches in different cities starting tonight, isn't that right?" Dave said.
"Yeah, that's going to be a problem." She said before turning her gaze to the ceiling and then back to Dave. "I think you'll need to get crutches, that will ease your movement."
As soon as she said that, someone knocked on the door.
"Who could that be now?" She said before she got up from the couch and began to make her way to the door.
Once she got to the door, she pulled it open to see Mateo standing there and he had something in his hand.
"Hey, sis."
"Mateo." She said before her gaze quickly shifted to what he was holding. "Is that a crutch?"
"Yeah, I brought it for Dave, I know moving around is going to be quite difficult for him for a while." The winger replied.
"That's crazy, I was just thinking about that." She said with a smile on her face.
