Chapter 321 Getting Heated Up
The match had just entered the thirty-fifth minute and so far, none of the teams had been able to produce a goal.
Unique FC had more ball possession like they always did but the difference wasn't that much.
Spree City had been able to make three more goal attempts after that first one from Felix but none of them were successful.
Two of them were off-target shots by Kelano and Torres which Dave watched fly over the bar, and the one which was on target was a shot by Felix from twenty-five yards, that could have been a great goal, but unfortunately for him, the ball was sent rolling into Dave's hands.
Unique FC on the other hand despite having more ball possession, had only been able to make one more goal attempt after that one Fredinho which went over.
Mateo swiftly dribbled past two players to get near the edge of the box and fire a shot toward the right side of the goalpost, but his shot was deflected and sent rolling into the goalkeeper's hands.
Right now, Unique FC were with the ball, they were moving forward with their coordinated string of passes while looking for a way to break through Spree City's defense and cause some problems for them.
"Just a few minutes before the halftime break and there is nothing to show between the two," Jim said.
Ferran received the ball from Martinez in central midfield.
He scanned the area to see if there were any of the forwards he could send the ball to, but seeing that they weren't in very good positions, he had to send the ball back to Martinez before the player heading toward him would try to take it from him.
All Martinez needed to send the ball to Minino was a single touch and as soon as Minino got hold of the ball, he quickly switched further down the right and zoomed past the midfielder trying to stop him before laying the ball off for Merino further down the wing.
The left-back quickly rushed out to try and stop him with a tackle not knowing that doing something like that carelessly was a big mistake.
Merino quickly grabbed the ball with both of his feet and jumped over him to get into the box.
"Merino's in the box, this could be the moment," Jim said with the excitement in his voice slowly rising.
Merino feigned shooting toward the goalpost to get the defenders and goalkeeper to act up before he caught past one of the defenders with nice skill and call control before passing the ball to Fredinho who was almost unmarked in the middle inside the box.
"He's all alone, this could be it!"
Fredinho quickly pulled his leg back and fired the shot toward the right side of the goalpost.
"Fredinho!"
The striker should have given that ball a little bit of elevation as one of the defenders quickly stretched his leg to block but the ball deflected on his leg a little more to the right and ended up hitting the post.
Merino quickly rushed to the rebound to put it away, but before he could get to it, the goalkeeper quickly stretched his hands and covered the ball with them.
"Oh, that was so close, but Spree City will be happy nothing serious came from that."
The goalkeeper didn't even wait for the second second to pass before he quickly got up from the floor and sent the ball flying in toward Felix.
"They're looking to start a counterattack here," Steve said.
Adolf was right behind Felix so he clearly wasn't offside as the two contested for the ball.
The striker got a little rough with the defender to win the ball, that should have been a foul as Adolf fell to the floor with his hand on his nose but the referee allowed play to continue.
Adolf was still lying on the ground as Felix passed the ball to Jamie who quickly sent the ball rolling to Kelano.
"What the heck is going on?" Dave said as he raised his hand toward the goalkeeper and pointed his hand toward Adolf to show him that he was on the floor but he still didn't take any action.
"Adolf's on the floor after that challenge with Felix, it looks like Felix hit him with his elbow, Dave's trying to call the referee's attention to it but play is still going on." Steve expressed.
"That should be a foul in every way," Jim said.
The players had to leave Adolf on the floor because of the attack proceeding toward the goalpost.
It wasn't that clear during the early stages of the match but now, the players and everybody supporting Unique FC felt like the referee was also playing against them.
'Someone's on the floor, that right call is to stop the game but the game is still going.' Dave said subconsciously as he folded his hands into fists and bit his lower lip while waiting for the ball.
Kelano pushed the ball to Felix who tried to push past Martinez who had covered up to support Aima.
The striker almost lost the ball to Martinez and with a desperate attempt, he sent the ball rolling back to Kelano but that pass didn't have much power to it and before the ball could get to Kelano, Mateo closed up on him from behind to steal the ball.
He didn't even try to start a counterattack even though he had the chance; rather he sent the ball to Dave who quickly picked it up before he began to make his way to the referee.
"Looks like Mateo was looking for a way to stop play all this while and he just found one," Jim said.
While Dave made his way to the referee to have a word with him after he blew his whistle to stop play, Mateo went to check on Adolf who was still lying on the floor with his hand covering his face.
"Dave looks really pissed off here."
That was no exaggeration as the goalkeeper didn't have the nicest expression on his face.
The medical team had to come take care of Adolf whose nose was bleeding, but it didn't look that serious.
And while all that was going on, the only thing Minino wanted was to beef with someone.
"Hey, I know you did that on purpose." The midfielder said as he blocked Felix's path.
"Get out of the way."
The striker didn't even consider anything before quickly pushing him back with his chest.
He expected the midfielder to crash to the floor because of his stature but the midfielder only staggered two steps back before he got back to the striker and returned the chest push which only pushed him a foot back.
"You want to fight? Fine, I'm looking forward to it."
Their teammates had to quickly rush to the area to calm things down because both of them could get sent off and probably receive at least three match bans if things should go past the point it is at the moment.
"Things are starting to get heated up between both teams here in the Telonia stadium," Jim said.
The referee had to leave Dave who was still talking to him and head over to the area of commotion and show both of the players involved yellow cards.
"They're lucky they didn't get sent off," Steve said.
