Chapter 492 On Top
It was all smiles and cheers of jubilation in the Wondanimo stadium for the home team at least.
Five years without being able to defeat Supreme United in a league match and they had finally done it here today in a match to decide who was going to be at the top of the table.
"They started out lackluster but they managed to persevere to the end with a shocking victory, Mateo being the highlight of the match." Jim expressed. "I don't know if Norman had this all planned, starting with a mediocre lineup and then switching to his main lineup in the second half, that was the point they started to regain some control over the match and managed to run away with it."
"Well, one thing is clear, Unique sure are doing things this season, They're now at the top of the table with the higher goal difference, and the gap in goal difference between them and now second place Supreme United is quite huge." Steve articulated. "They've scored forty-nine goals this season while only conceding nine, that's forty goal difference which is pretty wild considering this match was only their twenty-eight this season. Supreme United on the other hand has scored thirty-nine goals this season while conceding seventeen, that's twenty goal difference which is also impressive but nothing compared to Unique FC's numbers this season."
"Yeah, the battle for that league title this season seems to be just between Supreme and Unique FC who are at each other's necks at the moment, Dynamo FC doesn't seem to be that interested but with ten matches left in the season they might become interested again somewhere down the line and that will only make things more interesting."
After that, the two talked about a few other things before finally bringing their broadcast to an end.
Back on the pitch, Unique FC were still greeting the fans who were jumping in the stands while singing chants of jubilation.
The smiles on their faces as they let out those victorious chants were beyond wholesome and the players were just vibing with them.
Beating Supreme United in a match that would take them to the top of the table was not something to be taken lightly and they weren't taking it lightly.
They could have chosen to do that all night if it was up to them but the players had to head home after an exhausting game like this so they had to start making their way down the tunnel now.

'This has been some match but thanks to those goals from Mateo we managed to make it out on top.'
<This would have ended in a draw if it wasn't for that penalty, Roland knows not to take you for granted if he had gotten more chances like that you wouldn't have been able to stop him>
'Well, most goalkeepers can't do anything about one-on-one situations so that wouldn't really be my fault and besides it's the defenders' jobs to make things like that don't happen so the fact that he only got one of those chances in this match means that they did a pretty good job.'
Mateo was announced as the man of the match after the end of the game and there was no surprise no one came close to the winger's performance in the match.
He had to make his way down the tunnel to receive the man of the match award and that was where he was heading now alongside Dave when they ran into two familiar faces.
Clark was just standing near the tunnel alongside Emilia who was in a casual black dress with a black jacket similar to the one he was putting on.
"You guys almost gave me a heart attack in those last minutes," Clark said before quickly moving closer to the two.
"Well, sorry about that," Dave replied.
"I hope your heart is okay now," Mateo said sarcastically before putting his hand on his chest.
"I wouldn't be standing here if it wasn't." Clark blurted before removing the winger's hand from his chest.
It wasn't noticeable from his voice at first but he sounded really excited and the expression was coming into his face now.
"Hey, Emilia," Mateo said before waving at her.
She seemed to have walked closer to the two now to stand beside Clark with her arms crossed.
"Hi, Mateo and Dave." She uttered before waving at the two. "Nice performance out there." She added with a monotone voice.
"She still can't get over the fact that we won," Clark whispered to the two in front of him with his hand on his mouth.
"Hey, I heard that." She retorted almost immediately before nudging him with her arm. "But on a serious note though, just what are you, Mateo? I expected a bad performance from you with how this match started out."
"Oh?" The winger replied before raising his eyebrow. "Didn't my sister tell you? I'm a cyber-human that my parents had to make when my mother could not get pregnant again after my sister so silly things like whistling do not work on me."
"I would probably believe that if I didn't know you when you weren't this big yet." She replied before looking down at him. "Hey, you seem to have grown a bit taller." She added with an amused expression on her face before moving closer to him.
"Hey, now's not the time for that." He retorted with a startled voice before trying to move away from her but she had already grabbed him by his arm so that wasn't going to work.
"What's wrong? I thought you were acting all smug just now." She said with a teasing voice before pulling him closer.
"And they're playing." Clark sighed before turning his gaze to Dave.
"So, I guess we should start getting ready for that trip to Germany." The goalkeeper said.
"Yeah," Clark responded with a nod. "And this victory just guaranteed it to be a fun trip."
"So it wouldn't have been a fun trip otherwise?"
"For you maybe but not for me." He replied.
"Oh."
'I'm sort of confused now.'
<Don't worry, you're not the only one>
_______ _______
If a victory against any other club was enough to make Minino go wild in the locker room then a victory against their long-term rivals made that worse because the midfielder had most of his teammates joining him in his wild locker room celebration now.
The dustbin was on the floor, their clothes were scattered on the floor and there was a lot of dancing.
[Post-match rewards ]
[ Nine crucial saves: +90 exp ]
[ Goals conceded (2): 0exp ]
[ Match rating: 7.9 ]
The goalkeeper already knew what the rewards were going to be and that was the reason why he had his gaze fixated on what was going on now.
Well, not exactly what was going on, just one person who didn't usually like taking part in this activity, Mateo but he was going wild alongside Minino now.
<The whistling brought out the beast in him>
'Yeah, I'm terrified.'
