Chapter 72 Six Kilometres Quest
"You got me a beautiful necklace like this and you didn't even bother to give it to me," Emma said before sitting down beside him on the couch.
"I was going to give it to you and then…"
"What?" She asked, turning her gaze to him.
"I forgot." He said.
"Is this the gift you were getting me at the mall?" She asked.
"Ummm…yeah, that's it." He said with a nod.
"And then you forgot to give it to me."
She wasn't exactly buying what he was selling here.
"I'm sorry." He said grabbing the necklace from her. "Let me put it on you."
She stared at him without moving and she didn't have a pleased look on her face.
"Come on babe."
"Okay." She said with a sigh before turning her back to him.
The goalkeeper opened the necklace and put it around her neck before locking it.
"It looks nice on you." He said after stretching his head to take a look at how it looked on her.
"Yeah." She said, touching the heart-shaped crystal on the necklace. "Thank you."
"Anything for you." He said.
"So, what are you doing?" She asked, looking around.
"Waiting for the El Classico to start, we have less than an hour left now." He said after turning his gaze to the wall clock.
"Okay."
"Have you submitted it to your boss?"
"Yeah, I'll have to get to work tomorrow to find out her thoughts on it." She said.
______ ______
The El Classico had started and for almost forty-five minutes now, Dave had been watching the match with Emma.
The clock in the match was showing forty-two minutes with the scoreboard showing the number one on both sides.
Fernandez had been the one to open the scoreline after finishing from a rebound after fifteen minutes Vasquez had equalized with a beautiful header from a corner kick which Ciro had taken.
The time was entering the forty-fourth minute and FC Barcelona were starting an attack on their opposition's defense now.
"FC Barcelona are still pushing, they usually don't start up direct attacks like this but they seem to be desperate for a goal." The commentator said.
Andreas Frednado received the ball from Pedro and with a flick and swift turn, he was able to get past the player that was marking him and was racing down the pitch now.
"That was some neat turn from Frednado."
He knew he couldn't do it all so he had to pass it to Lelemar at some point.
Lelemar didn't take the left wing but instead, he decided to cut through the middle before passing the ball to Ciro.
"Ciro."
Ciro received the ball from outside the box, got past the players that were marking him with a dummy before releasing the shot from that far out.
"Ciro!!"
The shot flew toward the top right-hand corner as Real Madrid's goalkeeper dived toward it but he wasn't able to get his hand to it as the ball struck the crossbar before falling into the back of the net.
"They wanted a goal before halftime and they've got it!" The commentator screamed as the players all clustered around Ciro.
The first half had come to an end with Barcelona still in the lead.
The second half was really tight with Barca doing everything possible to stop Los Blancos players from getting through and they succeeded, until the eightieth minute.
A midfielder received the ball and crossed into the box for Dennison to finish it with a beautiful overhead kick placed at the top left-hand corner where Frank Anderson couldn't properly deal with it.
"Oh, what a goal! Dennison's finally got the equalizer!"
The right winger pulled off his shirt and started running to the side with his teammates chasing him and the guest fans were beginning to run wild.
FC Barcelona players couldn't believe it, they had almost secured the win but Dennison had just shattered their goal coming into this match.
The match continued with both sides trying to get a winner but ended up wasting a lot of chances and after playing for about twenty-seven minutes, the match finally came to a conclusion.
"Oh, what a match that was, there's a reason why it's called the El Classico, we just witnessed that." The commentator said. "The match ends with FC Barcelona one, Real Madrid one."
As soon as the commentator said that, Dave slowly turned his gaze to Emma with a smug look on his face.
"What?" She asked after noticing the weird way he was looking at her.
"And you told me the Manchester Derby was better." He said.
"Yes, the Manchester Derby is better in the sense that it doesn't need two of the best players to ever grace the field to hype up the match." She said,
"The El Classico has always been a thing, even before Ciro joined Barcelona and Fernandez joined Real Madrid," Dave said. "El Clasico wasn't created because of them.
"That's true but the match wouldn't be receiving as much hype as it is receiving today if it weren't for those two." She said, "El Classico is better than the Manchester Derby at the moment because of Ciro and Fernandez but let's see what happens after they leave."
"That's not happening anytime soon but we'll see," Dave said getting up from the couch. "I'm going to go grab myself a drink, do you need anything?"
"Umm…no." She said, shaking her head.
"Okay." He said before making his way to the kitchen.
It took about three minutes before he returned with a drink in his hand and just as he dropped it on the table to adjust his pants a little, Emma grabbed it and began to drink it.
"Hey, I thought you didn't need anything," Dave said with a shocked expression on his face.
"And you believed that?"
"Why wouldn't I? You said you didn't need anything."
"Well, go grab yourself a new one because this one's mine now." She said before taking a sip from the drink.
Dave stared at her for a while with a shocked expression on his face before he finally let out a sigh and got up from the couch.
Emma waited until he was about to enter the kitchen before she dropped the glass on the table and broke into laughter.
"Yeah, keep laughing," Dave said, sounding a little bit annoyed before making his way into the kitchen.
