Chapter 4: BREAKFAST (l)
Chapter 4: BREAKFAST (l)
Standing at the front door of the Adams resident Alicia did not know whether to laugh or cry at the sight which was in front of her. The man who stood in front of the gate with his left hand in his pocket while the other handheld a bouquet of white roses with a pinch of lilies. He had a white T-shirt on which complimented the black sweatpants he wore carelessly and the black tackies he had on his feet. His nose and cheeks looked a little red which indicated that he had been standing outside the gate for quite a while, but he still wore a patiently chilled smile on his face.
The moment her eyes locked with his, the patience he had on his face flushed and a hint of impatience was seen in his eyes as he took his hand out of his pocket and waved lightly in order for Alicia to walk towards him. As she stared at his figure in the distance, she could only think about the weird conversation she had with her parents the night before. They seemed to be a little too enthusiastic about Liam, she still could not understand the reason he could get on her nerves every time he opened his mouth.
........
[The night before]
When Alicia entered the lounge of the house, she kept questioning herself about what Chris's sudden words about Liam meant, as if she could feel the gaze which she had attracted around her, Alicia glanced at her parents who were dressed in their pyjamas while holding each others' hands while seated on the couch. They said nothing to her and only stared at her blankly until she had finally noticed their piercing eyes. Right when her mother was about to ask something Alicia interrupted her with, "Why are the both of you lovebirds awake at this time of the night?" her father simply scoffed at her words and looked at his wife with loving eyes, yet she simply ignored his gaze. She slowly stood from the sofa and with a mischievous grin she looked at her daughter and asked, "So? How was the date? Chris told me that he found someone who could be a handful for you this time. so tell me when can I start calling him my son-in-law?"
Alicia could not fathom the way her mother was obsessed with getting her a husband. She silently looked at her father who covered his eyes in a disapproving manner, he also could not believe his wife wanted to marry his little daughter so quickly.
Alicia glanced at her mother's eyes which were filled with a lot of joy and sighed as she answered her mother with," Mom, I only met Liam today. I don't know what you planned with your son this time but the guy you chose might cause a problem for me, you know I have a company to run right?"
"What company? You need to reduce the love you have for that company of yours and give it to a young man don't you think?" her mother spoke as she took small steps towards her daughter as she had a smile plasted on her face.
Alicia could never understand how her parents could function for so many years of being together, she knew that her father had grown to be very tolerant to his wife's extravagant nature, while he would silently love her unconditionally in his own way (Jennifer Adams and her loving husband Paul Adams). Yes the old couple had been together for the last thirty-years of their marriage. Till this day both Chris and Alicia had never heard the story of their love, as they would say, 'You can only listen to our love story once you both settle down yourselves'.
While Alicia looked at her smiling mother, her phone rang in her bag, and she wasted no time to answer the call. Worried that it might be related to the company she did not bother to check the caller ID and directly spoke when she answered the call with, "Mike, don't tell me there is a hick-up with the new contract?"
Just as she finished asking her question her eyes widened in surprised when she heard the voice which came from the phone which sounded like the voice that had been pestering her an hour ago, she quickly looked at her phone in order to see who the number belong to, only to find that it was from an unsaved number.
Liam spoke softly after listening to Alicia's panicked voice. He said, "I'm afraid I can't tell you much about the contract miss Adams, but if I knew Mike, I would be glad to find out about it from him for you."
With a little silence Liam chuckled a little and then spoke again as he said, "I will pick you up for breakfast tomorrow, I need to know your address in order to know where I should pick you up?"
Alicia did not know what to make of the pushiness Liam had with her, she just softly asked with concern, "Breakfast? I, … I"
Looking at her pathetic response Jennifer took the phone from her and sighed slightly as she placed the phone near her ear and spoke in a very carefree tone, "Hello my future son-in-law, don't worry about this stubborn child she will wait for you in the morning tomorrow. And since you've called her, she can send the address of our house to you directly. I hope you visit us soon son." And with that she hung up the phone leaving a very stunned Alicia glaring at her speechlessly.
