Chapter 43: The fall of Konola.
Now, Konola City's fate depended entirely on McNeesey's combat power because, in the clash between the conventional army, there was no doubt that Konola City would lose. So, McNeesey's victory in the battle between the two official-level powerhouses was the only hope at this moment. Should Mage McNeesey won the duel between him and commander Lunka, then Konola City would be safe. Of course, that was until Prince William sends another more powerful official-level powerhouse.
If the two official-level powerhouses remained in a stalemate for a long time like yesterday, then the enemy's conventional forces would be able to break through the already crumbling city wall and capture the hidden Princess while also burning down the entire Konola City in the process. At that point, the enemy would have already completed their goal, and McNeesey's victory or defeat would have no meaning.
But, there was also an even more severe scenario: which was that Mage McNeesey would be defeated very quickly while Lunka didn't receive any serious injuries.
In that case............ it would hard to say, whether even the trainee-level professionals could successfully escape from the Konola city.
……..
Just as the first ray of morning light shone on the Konola city's wall, a sharp sound of a horn came from the enemy camp, which was the signal to begin their offence. Because last night they used their granary as bait, a significant part of their ration was destroyed by the desperate struggle of the trapped professionals, and because of it, their situation was also not that comforting. And they had an urgent need for a large amount of food, so they were in a hurry to break into Konola City and plunder its wealth and food; otherwise, they might have to stay hungry for the next few days.
This time, not many professionals were allocated to handle the enemy's ladder team.
So, very soon, a ladder engraved with light red runes was successfully anchored on the City wall and accompanied by loud roars, one by one, enemy professionals started to charge on the wall-top.
Sections of the city wall began to fall one after another, flesh and blood covered the ground as a large number of soldiers died under the sharp blades or spells.
Lunka and Mcneesey were fighting in mid-air above the battleground. At present, their battle was at its peak intensity, many visible shock waves spread in the sky, and violent vibrations could be felt across several miles!
…..
On a dark corner of a street, a group of anxious refugees carrying large and small bags was getting ready to flee Konola City.
On the Pheren Plane, after a War, the defeated party's nobles could redeem themselves after spending a lot of gold. But the commoners were not so lucky, as all of them would be demoted to slaves, so even if all of them knew that their chance of escape, from the hands of the occupying forces and then those lurking slave traders, were extremely slim, but they still risked their lives to escape as most people didn't want to accept such tragic fate of a slave.
Punk stood quietly on a street corner very close to these refugees. Even though the clothes he wore were disguised and looked tattered like them, but he had not learned any camouflage skills[Skills and Spell are not the same], and he was also different from these trembling refugees in temperament. So, Punk did not expect his average acting skills to fool experienced professionals. He just wanted to take advantage of the chaos when the city would be breached and escape. After all, the enemy's main goal would be to loot and search for the Princess, so there was a good chance that no one would want to fight to the death with another similar level professional even if he was found out.
So until now, Punk was pretty confident about his escape.
"But…."
Punk frowned as he watched the battle of Mcneesey and Lunka in the distance. It could be seen that both of them had already played out their cards, and now they were actually fighting with their life on the line.
But, if the situation continued to develop according to the current trend, then Mcneesey's condition would worsen. Now Lunka was like, someone with the chicken's blood[Idiom], swinging his Warhammer around madly, and McNeesey was trying his best to avoid it.
Seeing such a scene, Punk became a little anxious. If Lunka defeated McNeesey so quickly......then he would be in big trouble!
"Hurry up! Hand over all your things quickly!"
An arrogant voice interrupted Punk's thinking. He turned his head in that direction, only to see two strong men in city guard's uniforms were blocking the road. One was standing on the left and one on the right of the street while yelling and threatening loudly at the refugees to hand over their valuables.
Although this kind of robbery was the oldest trick in the book, their threat was not just empty words; as, near their feet, two female corpses were lying on the ground as evidence.
These two deserters were obviously planning to loot some valuables before making their escape. One of the guards kicked the cold body on the ground and viciously brandished his bloody sabres to threaten the group of refugees who were hiding in the corner while shivering.
Punk curled his lips when he saw this schene. It was hard to say which was more detestable; the scummy behaviour of this two-guard or the timidity of these refugees, who started to tremble in fear because of two ordinary guards with steel sabre, while their number was 20 times more than the guards. Let alone the two deserters with simple sabers, even if they had ak47, they could be easily taken down if all of them retaliated together. But these sad refugees, in addition to begging and pleading, could only pray to the cold and unresponsive gods.
Punk shook his head and started to walk towards the two guards slowly. One shouldn't think that Punk was showing kindness toward these helpless refugees. He just didn't want to wait until this drama came to an end naturally.
"Hay boy- If you don't kneel right now, you won't be able to keep your life today"!
Noticing Punk's movements, a guard with bloodshot eyes grinned viciously and said to Punk.
"Poor fellow, did your greed made you lose your basic ability to judge?"
Punk muttered to himself indifferently, then his pupils covered by the hood began to glow with magical blue brilliance.
"A ma..."
The second half of the guard's sentence didn't come out as Punk used a mage's hand to grasped the two guard's necks and lifted them up in the air. As the pale blue giant hand started to squeeze their necks harder, the two guards started to struggle desperately in mid-air, but their struggle was as ridiculous as ducks, in front of the mage hands that could easily lift a car.
"If I cast Visceral divination with my trainee-level soul, plus...", Punk looked up at the two guards who begun to foam from their mouth... …
"............ some advanced spellcasting materials............ It might give me a surprise".
Ignoring the refugees with shocked and admiring faces, Punk dragged the two guards, who were still kicking their legs, into a relatively secluded alley. Under the refugees' horrified gaze, he summoned a bright silver knife, cut open the belly of one of the guards like tofu, and took out a blood-red viscera with the mage hands and then put it on a strange and mysterious magic circle.
Punk raised the last guard, and placed him directly above the magic circle, just like the rabbit in the jungle.
Disregarding the teary distorted face of the guard, Punk indifferently raised the knife high…!
"Why didn't I think of such a good way before this!"
………
In the distance, sporadic flames began to burn in Konola city, as part of the enemy troops had already broken through. There were fights everywhere, and many miserable screams could be heard from all over Konola. It seemed like the entire city was dyed red; even the clouds in the sky became blood-red as the two sun's rays reflected back from the blood-soaked city!
