Chapter 41: Graysteel
Chapter 41: Graysteel
Terry furrowed his eyebrows when he heard that. Those were some terrifying news... the fear of a portal suddenly popping out in their backyard became even more possible now.
"While this is the first portal that appeared in our country that could do that, we received some SOS from other countries," Louis said. "We received them from Mexico and Cuba."
Terry let out a sigh... Some people are just too unnerving. He couldn't say if they couldn't help or if they chose not to help, but keeping that kind of information hidden when people were suffering and dying was enough to piss him off.
While he didn't want to go around pretending to be a hero, Terry didn't mind giving them a hand. He didn't have to become like the assholes that he hated. Opening branches of his guild in other countries would help him, after all... still, his guild had just started, so he couldn't plan on going abroad tomorrow to expand.
"What about other locations?" Mary asked.
"Communications worldwide are limited, and those that still have some semblance of government and order wouldn't spread the news that would make them look weak, so it is hard to say if that happened in other continents," Louis replied.
After hearing that, Terry decided to return to the portal and fight with the monsters now and then. Six guild masters were taking turns in doing that, so he joined them. It was a good chance for him to clear his mind.
"After you heard all that, do you still plan to do your own thing?" Vanessa asked after she approached.
"Hell yeah," Terry replied.
"... You are unbelievable," Vanessa said after a long sigh. "Still, I imagine that I will have plenty of chances to change your mind. If you open a branch here, then we will be able to work together a few times, and that will benefit the country."
"I wouldn't be so sure of that," Terry said. "Many years living at the margin of society made me self-centered. You will have plenty of chances to learn that."
"I would rather believe that people can improve and better themselves," Vanessa said.
"And I would rather believe that people can't regress with their progress," Terry said and then shrugged.
In the next few days, the guild masters began to leave one after the other. Terry told Rebecca that she didn't have to worry too much about people causing trouble. The news about the new metal was spreading, and only idiots would try to get on his bad side by stealing from him.
During that time, Vanessa and his guild helped Terry fight the monsters, and he also spread the news that his guild was recruiting. Still, things will only start once Rebecca comes to help with the selection. Unfortunately, Terry and Vanessa also noticed something... the sphere was getting bigger again.
"This isn't something that the government knows since they ignored the SOS," Vanessa furrowed her eyebrows. "It looks like we will have to fight and kill the boss of the nearest camp again."
"This thing... Is definitely created by something that wants to make species from several words kill each other," Terry thought. "But why?"
"It is impossible to say with the knowledge that we have... " Vanessa said. "In any case, just killing them on this site won't change a thing. Once you decide to take the boss down, call me. Please don't do something reckless and stupid like going alone."
"Humph, don't underestimate me; this will be a cinch eventually," Terry said, and then he saw some vehicles approaching. "It seems that my hunters have arrived. From tomorrow onwards, your guild will be able to operate as usual."
"We will come as usual to keep an eye on things since you are like that," Vanessa said.
"Hello... it has been a while," Rebecca said while showing a forced smile.
"Hi, you must be Rebecca," Vanessa said while offering a handshake. "I hope that we can get along since your guild master is something else. I heard a lot of things about you."
"... Really, what did he say?" Rebecca asked.
"Relax, I didn't say that you are after my body," Terry shrugged.
"How many times do I have to say that... keep dreaming," Rebecca said after a long sigh. "And don't joke around while your subordinates are nearby."
"Hah, I am glad," Vanessa laughed. "I was worried that you didn't have a single friend with your personality, but I was wrong. Well, I will take my leave here."
"... You two looked pretty chummy," Rebecca said when Vanessa left.
"Don't need to be jealous just because I am popular," Terry said. "Anyway, you should introduce me to the guys that you brought."
"Right..." Rebecca said.
It was hard to say by just looking at them, but the group that had eight guys and four girls didn't look particularly remarkable. They didn't have much of a presence either, so they must be newbies that awakened to their traits after joining the guild.
"For the time being, your guys' job will be to split into groups of six and then watch the portal from four in the afternoon until midnight and then from midnight until eight in the morning. I will take care of the monsters during the other hours," Terry said. "As for how strong the enemies are, you need to see for yourself."
The last group of Vanessa's guild was leaving now, so the timing was good. Terry equipped his sword and then approached the portal and waited for a short while.

When the weird creature suddenly appeared. Everyone suddenly grabbed their weapons and prepared to fight. The beast swung its spear toward Terry, but his sword completely blocked the attack, and he didn't even move from the spot...
