Chapter 43: Dan Medicine
Chapter 43: Dan Medicine
"Sister Wu Qing is still mighty, no matter how thorny the front is, it can be slashed by her own strength!"
At this time, when he returned to the dock fort, more news came over which shook Wu Ming's heart.
Although he knew that someone was going to deal with Wu Qing and was ready to inform her to prepare her defense. He would then secretly help but he didn't think that this woman would directly rely on her own strength to break out of this situation.
The extraordinary power belongs to oneself, which is a completely different contrast with the way of gathering the crowd.
"However… Although the individual strength is strong, the potential of power is not to be underestimated!"
Wu Ming had his own way, that is, two paths to go in parallel; cultivating his power and military might.
This is the parallel path between the individual and forces.
Although one's strength cannot be taken by foreign entities, the way of spiritual cultivation is nothing more than capturing the essence of heaven and earth in order to support oneself. This borrowing power is still important.
Wu Ming recognized the benefits of external organizations, power, and individuals!
The Dao cultivator's land is essentially an external force, why not pay attention to it?
Therefore, when Zhao Song was ordered to reorganize the Inspection Office and strengthen the daily patrols, the Township Militia was handed over to Feng Han and the fortress was even more alert.
Although Wu Qing's letter has made it clear, Wu Ming was not a person who entrusts his safety to the guarantee of others.
This place is different from the Mountain Stronghold.
The dock fort is easy to defend and difficult to attack. Some of the family Inspectors are even family-born children, signing a death contract. Their life and death were in the hands of Wu Ming, even if he kills, he would only be fined so they were naturally loyal.
With their guards, unless an entire army is besieging them or extraordinary experts use their skills to break their strength, they are fearless.
Both of these things were things that the Zhou Family was unable to accomplish so after Wu Ming arranged all of this, he finally relaxed.
"Since entering the Dao Institute is hopeless, it is possible to delve into this "Yellow Court Yin Talisman Scripture"…" [1]
Within the quiet room, Wu Ming deliberately dismissed the servants. The censer was lit and blue smoke filled in the room, quiet and calming. There was another celadon vase with a bunch of plum blossoms, the pink petals still carried the fragrant scent of morning dew.
Plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum, because of its gentlemanly nature and unyielding elegance, has always been loved by Dao cultivators and Confucianists.
On the table next to the vase, the Silver Seal Jade Book, obtained by Old Daoist Qingping, spread out, showing the densely packed runes on it.
This is a true law! The foundation of Daoism is different from the "Extreme Yin Corpse Refining Method" and other minor techniques, but it is the real way to become a Human Immortal!
"Observe the Heaven's dao, enforce Heaven's conduct, it is the preparation of Human Immortal!"
Wu Ming unfolded another volume of silk book. The densely packed prints were tiny with comments on the side, which were the contents of the jade book.
This was exchanged with the Overgod Palace, it was the translation function, costing 100 Minor Merits.
"If you can't do it, you can't enter the door for life. It's useless to read even if you have a true law…"
Wu Ming sighed.
The Daoist Qingping was lucky and got the "Yellow Couty Yin Talisman Scripture". However, his accumulation was not enough and even misunderstood the Taoist terminology. Until now, he has only the level of Daoist Priest and it's a cheap and sad reminder to Wu Ming.
However, on the basis of Dao, as well as the accumulation of classics, Wu Ming can't even compare to Daoist Qingping. Naturally, he didn't dare to interpret rashly and instead, sought help from the Overgod Palace.
"The realms to cultivate to Human Immortal is divided into five categories: "Daoist Priest, Refined Master, Law Master, True Daoist and Heavenly Master. The Daoist Priest and Refined Master stage in "Yellow Court Yin Talisman Scripture" is complete but the part of Law Master is flawed and takes a lot to make up for it, 150 Minor Merits! … It's just enough for me at the moment!"
Wu Ming straightened his clothes and calmly adjusted his condition to the best before reading the classic carefully.
This is a rare opportunity to read the classics for the first time. It is extremely important to keep the Dao Rhythm in his heart; it was a little trick that he got from Wu Qing.
The smoke lingered as time passed by, and after a long time, Wu Ming sighed with satisfaction and put down the ancient scroll.
"Daoism follows nature! The Daoist cultivation was plain but through a series of methods such as bait, Foundation Establishment, mysterious scriptures, boxing, spells, visualization., it will polish the Dao until the process of the harmony with the Dao is achieved. The rest of the magical techniques are only products of accident.
This "Yellow Couty Yin Talisman Scripture", through the translation by the Overgod Palace, became easy to understand, making Wu Ming have a deeper understanding of Daoist Priests.
"I heard from Sister Wu Qing that when she first entered the Dao Institute, she also recited the scriptures and meditated to refine Qi. This is the way to cultivate the mortal body and when the Daoism is complete, one can open up the Sea of Consciousness and develop magical powers! In other Dao lineage, it's called skylight, heart glow, etc…"
"However this step is extremely difficult. There is a shortcut in the Dao sects, which is to get a talisman to breakthrough so it's called 'Acceptance'!
"The Daoist who receives the urn is qualified to cast spells! Before, although they could cast spells, it was a crooked way, even needing to consume their vital energy. They could only be called Jianghu Warlocks!"
"A Daoist can only be truly called a Daoist Priest after he has received the urn. He has mana and magical powers but his body is weak. The next is to carry the inner refinement which is for Refined Master!"
As Martial Artist meat shield, Wu Ming unconsciously compared both sides.
"Martial arts and Daoism are two completely different paths, so even the realms are different. If you come prepared, even Astral Qi, or Extreme Transformation martial artists would have a headache but if you come closer, even an Innate martial artist will have no problem dealing with several Daoist Priests who doesn't have a protective Magical Artifact… Therefore, who is strong and weak, can only be known after the fight!"
"But there's barely a place to compare… In terms of physical fitness, after the Daoist's inner refinement is consummated and the foundation is built, it is quite similar to the martial artist's Innate realm… Of course, it's just the body qi and blood are equal so if he really fights, he isn't an opponent for the martial artist! However, at that time, the Refined Master's ears and eyes are clear and the body, light. It would be difficult for ordinary martial artists to ambush them, trying to avoid Daoist Magic which can even threaten martial artists of the Extreme Transformation realm.
"Although the martial artist's Astral Qi can restrain the Daoist's magical techniques, I haven't heard of the realm of Grandmaster, which is after Extreme Transformation but in the face of the Law Master, he would still lose out…"
"It can be seen that the Taoist profession is still rich and handsome after all, and the meat shield has no future…"
Wu Ming sighed.
Knowing that the Great Zhou World is not a game, after all, there is no such thing as balance.
The Daoist Priest surpassed the martial artist from the beginning, the starting point is so different that it's cruel!
"But…you get what you pay for. The same can be said to the requirement to cultivate Daoism, the consumption is scary…"
Wu Ming only glanced at the materials needed to cultivate the "Yellow Court Yin Talisman Scripture", as well as the various baits and medicinal methods behind it, and his liver was trembling.
Even if he felt that he was already a small local tyrant, he had robbed the Zhou family and made quite a bit of money, seeing this made him a little dizzy.
Exhausted in culture, wealth, and military, the statement that practicing law breaks the family is not a lie.
"In the first few expenses, bring out the Magical Artifacts, thunder talisman, and translation exercises. The remaining merits can complete the Law Master part of the Yin Talisman Scripture. It is for this…"
Wu Ming wrote down the first level of exercises, "Yellow Court Yin Talisman Scripture" and translation books were put away. He then called Steward Wu and issued a list: "You seem to be buying for new years goods? Look at this, how much do you need?"
Steward Wu took a look and saw cinnabar, realgar, white alum, Zeng Qing, magnetite, and other ores as well as a few medicinal materials. Although he was a little surprised, he still remained motionless. Only when did he take a look at the number, did his eyelids make another hop: "If Young Master can take on such quantity, you will at least need 500 taels of silver!"
(The translation here is quite difficult since it lists materials. Zheng Qing is the pinyin of 曾青 however, I did not find a direct English counterpart. You just have to know that it's a type of rock used in Chinese medicine. Magnetite was also difficult to translate since the literal meaning is kind stone[慈石] but a quick search says it's indeed a magnetite so just run with it.)
"Well, I'll open a note. Go to the warehouse and withdraw the money, and purchase it at soon as possible… Also, don't sell the original batch of fine jade, just keep it!"
After sending Steward Wu away, a wry smile appeared on Wu Ming's face.
It was just the general prescription. For the truly rare things, he didn't expect for it to be collected by Steward Wu so he was prepared to redeem it in the Overgod Palace.
……
A few days later, night.
The stars were shining bright outside, but Wu Ming stayed inside, guarding the small furnace dignifiedly.
The charcoal fire was raging underneath, burning the finest silver silk beast head charcoal, and did not release that much smoke.
Wu Ming's eyes were focused, and he opened it from time to time, throwing in a few herbs.
"The monarch, the minister, and the assistant, the four seasons complement each other, this furnace is almost complete! If it doesn't work, the previous investment will be all be wasted…"
At this time, what he was cultivating was naturally contained in the Yin Talisman Scripture, a pill which specially assisted in developing the Sea of Consciousness. It was quite precious in the Dao Sect.
The pair of configuration is expensive. If it wasn't for the price of raw materials was far cheaper in the Overgod Palace than the finished medicine, Wu Ming would be bankrupt if he missed a few furnaces.
Passing three quarters in the Zi period [2], a fresh fragrance suddenly emerged from the furnace, making Wu Ming happy: "It's done!"
Opening the furnace, you could see a pill-shaped like a bird's egg. It was crystal-clear and released a jade-colored luster.
"Five Stones Returning to Ming San, placed in the Dao Sects, it is an also an auxiliary pill for breakthroughs. It can stabilize the Sea of Knowledge and awaken the heart, and to use it at the beginning is a very luxurious promotion route… Without the accumulation from Daoism, there is not so much time to polish it. His Daoism cultivation is not enough and medicine is used to make up for it, but it's careless…"
(The 'Five Stone Returning to Ming San' is very unclear, the raw is 五石返明散. If anyone knows how to translate, leave it on the comment.)
At this time, he didn't dare to neglect and took out the pill with a jade spoon. It is only after putting it in a bottle and sealing it, did he breathe.
The reason why jade is used is that the medicine is incompatible with the Five Elements. Although it had not reached the level of 'injured when meeting gold, scorched when meeting wood' but the medicinal properties will be greatly reduced if it is exposed to more.
"Sumptuous… it's just a few of them. The season, the weight, and attributes of the medicinal ingredients are very demanding. I'm afraid the only the Emperor's relatives are worthy…"
After putting the pill, Wu Ming set his mind and sat cross-legged. He then took the jade bottle, revealing the pill, and slightly pierced the thin layer of film.
The pill, astonishingly, tasted like chicken. A brilliance flashed and silver liquid came out.
Boom!
Wu Ming held it under his tongue, and immediately felt an electric shock spread all over his body.
[1]: Not sure if I've mentioned this but the literal pinyin is "Huang Ting Yin Fu Jing" but a quick search on the internet shows that there's another possible translation which is based in real life called "Huangdi Yinfujing" or "Yellow Emperor's Hidden Talisman Classic/Yellow Emperor's Yin Convergence Scripture". However, in the raw 黄庭阴符经, the Ting (庭) is translated as "Court" or "Yard" so it may just be a reference to a historical text in ancient China.
