Chapter 15: How to Travel in the Apocalypse [Bonus Chapter]
I got off the debris, picked up the slime and shoved it in my pockets, next to the cigarettes.
"Let's go to those bunkers I told you. I remember my dad once talked about one in Central Darma."
Ternet was a large country, but it was still pretty young. My dad wanted to show the government who's boss and had attacked most of their bunkers, but this one was slightly special even by his standards since it was simple yet loaded.
We hopped over the ground, the red tint of the skies was slowly fading away, but not gone.
While the burning never stopped, night would be coming soon. Sleeping in an undead infested land didn't click well with me.
"Hey Vincent, we really should help them, they'll all die."
Oh right. The people he had brought along were currently being eaten up by the zombies.
"It could serve as good combat practice too—"
"Practice? You think I'd have gotten rusty enough in a day to need practice against weaklings?"
I sighed and reached down, grabbing another small stone.
I bounced the stone a couple times in my hands, the Hero watching.
"You are helping?"
"Yes, helping my curiousity."
Once I started to wonder about something, it became really difficult to calm down without answering it.
I twisted my hand, pulled back my limbs, and shot the stone straight ahead.
"WOAH!" Relafan screamed. The stone, unperturbed, went straight into the head of one of the people trying to fight back against the zombies.
It wasn't strrong enough to pierce through, but more than strong enough to smash his skull inside.
The man dropped dead almost immediately, the dent in his head big.
The others screamed and attracted the zombies' attention, all the better for me.
"What are you doing?!"
I raised my hand and shut Relafan up.
A minute.
Then two.
"I guess not everyone that dies becomes a zombie."
"Oh, cool think to check." Relafan nodded. See? I knew he wasn't an idiot after being with me in that other world.
His disposition may be of a hero, but a hero that wasn't realisitc was just a burden. Save yourself so you can save others.
Of course, ignoring the rest alive wasn't very heroic, but I couldn't give two flying rat fucks about it.
Dead? Skill issue.
I started walking away and Relafan followed. The slime tried to mess around in my pockets, but a simple slap would shut it up. What was it level forty five for anyway?
Time was running out, we first had to get to Darma and do that as fast as we could.
After carefully moving and avoiding as many hordes as we could, the Hero and I found ourselves looking down at a police station.
About thirteen zombies were around the place. Not a number we couldn't take on.
"Hey, should I use the stat points?"
"No."
I shut him off instantly.
"Keep it saved, we'll look into it at the bunker."
I turned back to the police station once more and licked my lips. Parked outside were three Marley Sportsters modded to fit the cops.
Inside, were likely to be filled with guns and grenades.
"Let's go steal this bike first."
Relafan smiled.
"I am in."
