Paragon of Death

Chapter 29

Chapter 29: Chapter 28: Cosmic spirit cycle

“Why did you let them go?” A voice resonated from a dark corner of the room.

From there, Duke Hail walked out his hands wrapped around his chest. His eyes seemed as calm as the see but confusion was written all over his face.

He couldn’t explain why a bunch of kids would be allowed to fight two orc scouts. This is no different from sending them to their deaths!

“May I remind you that orcs have innate fighting talents. They are probably one of the most powerful races on this continent. Even the weakest amongst them is better than a human considered talented.” Duke Hail said with a hint of annoyance in his voice.

“You seem to have grown attached to these kids... Is your allegiance to the empire or these kids? I would like to know that, Duke Hail” Pope Light emerged from what seemed like a door of light. His fierce gaze was pinned on Duke Hail.

“Those eyes... you should be careful who you look at this way. You may end up never getting to use them again” Duke Hail leaned forward, assuming a strange stance but even then the Pope didn’t seem afraid.

His body lit up with divine power as his body levitated off the ground slightly and a smile bloomed on his face.

.....

“Come dog, where the Royal family has failed in taming you, I will succeed!” Pope light said confidently.

Bam!

A fierce aura exploded in the room planting the Duke and pope on the ground. They both lay flat unable to stand, with all their strength they could only look up to see the fierce look in the eyes of Archmage Kratos.

“Does my place of work look like a place where you can both walk in and do as you please? Don’t forget, killing both of you won’t be too difficult even for someone like me” Kratos said coldly.

“We apologize” The two said slowly as the pressure on them could be felt through their voices.

“I understand you two. While Duke Hail is too overprotective, which seems suspicious, you are quite eager to see your grandson die. Is there something you think I should know? Pope?” Archmage Kratos said as he restrained his aura, removing the suppression on the two.

The two remained silent and none dared to speak. The position of an Archmage is even higher than that of a prince. Kratos is like the right hand man of the king. If he decides to kill them both here no one would even bother questioning Kratos. The difference was just too great.

Kratos nodded and returned to his seat with a thoughtful expression on his face.

“I have my reasons for sending them there... If they survive, that’s amazing but if they die, at least have removed some potential suspects from the list” Kratos said with a frown.

...........

Teleportation magic is linked with space magic, which is a cosmic spirit ability. Right now only the Gyro Kingdom has access to the teleportation magic because Archmage Kratos is a cosmic spirit host. The thought of this annoyed Damon, making him wonder why cosmic spirit hosts would try so hard to get rid of guardian spirit hosts.

“From what I heard, Cosmic spirits and guardian spirits are of different origins and have different goals” Gin said, making Everyone frown but they all remained attentive.

“Should we talk about it with him around?” Cyrus said as he shot Klien a cold glance.

“My sister was the previous death guardian spirit host and that’s why they suspect I’m the next. Who would have thought the power would go to a member of the Ross family” Klien said as he shot Damon a glance but his gaze carried no emotions. No one could tell what was going through his mind.

Hearing this everyone was silent. They finally understood why Klien was put on their team and it seems he already knew the reason why everyone here was put on the team as well.

“So I’m guessing you all are guardian spirit hosts?” Klien asked with the same dull look on his face.

“Yep, we all are with the hopes of taking charge of our lives. Since you had a grudge against the empire that means we are all buddies” Gin said with a playful smile. Meanwhile, everything was beginning to make sense.

Gin and Cyrus inherited the power from their siblings, so Gin assumed it would be the same from Klien, that’s why he tried to kill him. He also understood why Klien wasn’t chosen as the new host. Not only did he already look inhuman with his pale skin and his blood red eyes. His mana reserves are already high, as well as his power. With the minor boost from the death magic, he could easily reach the standards of a host and even surpass them, making it easier to spot him out of the group.

Death needed someone the world would find hard to believe while using Klien as a shield for Damon to grow.

“My brother once told me more about this. The purpose of the Guardian spirits is to select the candidates of new God’s in this world that will protect it from all external forces.” Cyrus said.

“And the cosmic spirits are external forces. They exist outside this world, rich with cultivation resources. To improve their power, they put their soul imprint on a child born into this world, granting him its power and allowing it to cultivate. Should they cultivate long enough and amass enough power. When they die, their souls escape the underworld and are snatched by the cosmic spirits. They use the accumulated power stored in their souls to improve their own cultivation... it’s just like farming and harvesting but a much slower process but it doesn’t matter much since they are practically immortals” Gin explained.

Listening to this, Damon felt like his head was spinning. He didn’t know how to react or respond to any of these. His eyes seemed dull as he considered some things and came to the conclusion that his life just got a bit more complicated because of this power.

“Fuck my life” Damon sighed
