Paragon of Death

Chapter 43

Chapter 43: [Bonus chapter]Chapter 42: Second Mission

While in class the next day, Damon remained distracted all through class. His eyes were pinned on the girl he saved the previous day who seemed to have no memories of what happened the previous night. According to Archmage Kratos, he saved her in time but her potential is drastically reduced permanently. If he came in anytime later, the girl would have been reduced to a normal human.

Meanwhile, as a reward, he was granted a few fire and wind seeds to help improve one’s affinity towards certain elements. After consuming it, Damon could feel his link to the fire and wind element had increased slightly.

Casting spells will take less mana and he would need less preparation time. While the rewards are good and beneficial, Damon had two problems. The first is that the Fox spirit can be considered the least enemy he can go against. The rest will be more difficult to deal with from here. The second problem is regarding his death magic.

According to Pope Light, what he has is not a grimoire, it is just a book where he can record his spells and this is expected since a mere Baron level family won’t be able to afford a real one, meanwhile, a real magical grimoire serves some purpose. A grimoire magically records all spells he knows without him having to write them down. Also, it reduces the cast time of a spell and when channeling a spell through a magical grimoire, the spell is almost twice as strong.

Unfortunately, even the cheapest grimoire can sell for over a hundred gold coins. Such a staggering amount is at least thrice as much as the entire Ross family’s net worth. With this in mind, it became obvious to him that it will be necessary for him to come up with a plan to make money.

“Team Guardian... Your task today has to do with goblins. After your team proved its competence in dealing with the orc scout, I don’t think this will be too difficult. Along the borders of the capital is a goblin cave. Goblins from there have repeatedly attacked travelers and convoys... deal with it and you will be rewarded” Professor Alonso said and members of Damon’s team replied lazily by making weird sounds. The professor frowned but didn’t react. Somehow it has been made known to the public that team guardians are getting special treatment from the Archmage so he tried to avoid conflict with them at all costs.

“Keep it in mind that this may be a red zone goblin cave. For them to stay so close to the capital and have survived this long is because they should have a goblin shaman and goblin warlord... Be careful” Professor Alonso said with a stern look on his face.

.....

..........

“Another day, another crazy ass mission... Hopefully, this one will be fun” Klien complained.

“Am I the only one that notices that this mission is more difficult than the previous one.... A goblin warlord and shaman is not something any of us should be able to handle” Cyrus said with a frown.

“That is assuming we are normal students and we all know what this is all about. We are four chosen, fighting in one team. Our strength is extraordinary and right now we have a lone wolf as a part of our team, they know we can handle it that is why they sent us...” Gin said while gazing at Damon who has been quiet all through the journey.

All four of them were in a carriage, heading to the borders of the capital and they still had a few minutes or maybe half an hour before they get there but Damon is yet to say a word.

“Are you okay, man?” Klien asked with a frown.

“Mhmm... It is just difficult to focus here... This capital is filled with supernatural beings. It takes a lot of effort to ignore their existence.” Damon said with a frown and his nose twitching occasionally.

“Why? We can take a small detour and bag a few kills. I want to see what they look like” Cyrus said excitedly.

“That is not my duty, it is for the Hails... My territory is the academy grounds and anything beyond that is for the other werewolf families...” Damon shook his head in refusal.

In truth, the reason he didn’t want to go outside for this is because of the possibility of meeting an enemy far beyond their level. In the academy, he can call on Kratos if things go south but not here.

“I will never understand this supernatural life you are living” Cyrus commented.

“Anyway, since we are going to a goblin cave, I think this is the best spot for you to try out your real magic... Don’t worry, with Cyrus there we can suppress the aura” Gin said, only then did Damon’s eyes reveal some sort of excitement.

“We know you have always wanted to try out your real magic. This is your chance” Cyrus chipped in.

Hearing this a childish grin bloomed on Damon’s face.

He finally has the chance to try out the death magic without fear of anything. Thinking back at everything that has happened so far, he realized he has consumed three souls already. Luthor wright, the orc scout, and the fox spirit. With the cultivation materials made available too, he is close to making a breakthrough. With the number, of goblins, they may encounter he should be able to push his power to the next level.

Also, his wolf side grants him high-speed regeneration both for his health and mana. Right now, mana issues shouldn’t bother him much again.

“Looking back on the way I was before I came here, I guess I can say I have made a lot of progress... All I need now is money... I have the strength and talent but the financial power to back up my hard work. I need to come up with a way of making money” Damon muttered with a frown as he pondered on what to do next.
