Paragon of Death

Chapter 46

Chapter 46: Chapter 45: Chaotic Era

Damon and the rest of his team returned from their mission located on the outskirts of the capital sooner than expected which raised a lot of attention. They came back faster and with no scratch on them, looking far healthier than other students who were given tasks far more easier to do.

This caused an uproar because even the professors believed these four will have a hard time, only arch mage Kratos and pope light knew why this happened. Damon’s team was already informed of his special identity and asked to help conceal his true identity if necessary so they assumed Damon used his werewolf abilities to clear the task. But others didn’t know this so they were immensely pissed off!

Like, why the hell would you put four out of ten members of the chosen in one team and expect things to be fair? Especially in an academy like this where everyone competes for resources!

With such a team of all fighters and still possess support roles as individuals, they can complete more difficult tasks and bag more resources for themselves. Obviously, their growth will be twice as fast as that of the other students.

In fact, that was not even the main problem! What was more terrifying was that the four of them got along just fine. It was more like an unwritten alliance between four out of the ten strongest individuals in the academy, why won’t they be worried? The thought of having four out of ten chosen on the same side in an academy that competes for resources is just terrifying and not fair in any way.

Soon countless complaints were filled but there was no response from the Archmage running the academy. At this point, even the other six chosen felt threatened by the alliance of the four and it was visible in their facial expressions each time they meet. There was even a rumor roaming around about the six, possibly joining forces to crush the four. During that time it was the hottest topic but it was soon debunked.

What infuriated people, even more, was that the academy made no attempt to separate the four, neither did they even have any sense of decency to address the students and give them a reason why the four cannot be separated so they did the next best thing. The infuriated students began forming groups, cliques, and cults in a bid to keep up and compete for resources effectively. Since they lacked the individual strength to compete, they can do so with numbers. Rumors that some of these gangs were run by some of the Chosen were flying around but with no evidence, no one could touch them.

.....

While all of this happened, Damon and his team barely showed any interest which pissed students off even more. The academy was falling into a chaotic time and everyone knew it. Since the four always walked together, people didn’t dare attack them, especially since they were capable of clearing a goblin hideout that could have up to thirty goblins and come out unscathed!

It was obvious their teamwork would be spectacular!

In a bid to prevent any of them from getting attacked, Damon and the rest began moving together. Even when only one member had a class, the others would attend, that way no one dared to attack.

What these students did now was that various teams under them would pick difficult tasks, then they will dispatch more members of their group from other teams to help them complete their tasks! That way they earned more resources but also took all mildly difficult tasks, leaving behind the extremely difficult tasks.

For a while, Damon and his team could barely complete any mission worth a reasonable amount of resources because of this which was beginning to piss them off.

Fortunately, they weren’t the only ones affected because this soon led to some clashes between groups and even the academy grounds weren’t too safe anymore!

............................

“This is getting out of hand” Damon complained with a frown. If things keep going like this, they won’t be able to make any progress in any direction!

Damon leaned on the wall while the rest of his team sat on his bed pondering. Two months have passed by and they are yet to get quality missions or resources. For some reason, even supernatural beings are in hiding. The appearance of a lone wolf in the academy and the death of a fox spirit not too long after his appearance didn’t get by them. With no other choice, everyone was on the defensive. They all kept a low profile and with no one to hunt down, Damon can’t get resources from that source either. What he thought would be a good year in the academy turned out to be the worst.

“We have two options, things are getting violent so we can either get violent or wait and watch how things turn out” Klien said with a frown.

“By violent you mean going up against the gangs? Hmph! Unless we are able to use our true powers, we can’t compete with that many opponents.” Gin said.

“Using our powers would also attract the attention of those three in that tower. We have no hope of escaping them if that happens so that’s off the table” Cyrus said and everyone nodded in agreement.

“Taking even more difficult tasks will raise suspicions too. Right now there is a limit to what Damon can do alone as a lone wolf and a beginner. If we take missions meant for higher-level students and start completing them, they will get suspicious... We are currently trapped” Damon couldn’t help but confess with a sad tone.

For the first time in a long while he was in a situation where he had no means of escaping. His hands were tied down and he could only watch things unfold. Thankfully they still had the resources assigned to the chosen on a weekly basis. With that, Klien, Cyrus, and Gin were able to push their way into the second sky of the human realm!
