Primitive Man

Chapter 221: Bandits way of life

As the convoy of trucks trundled through the rugged terrain, the soldiers worked efficiently, unloading crates of weapons and supplies destined for the new base ordered by Professor Mia.

"Careful with those crates, Jenkins! We don't want any of the rifles or dry rations damaged," barked Sergeant Barnes, overseeing the operation.

Jenkins nodded, beads of sweat forming on his brow as he carefully manoeuvred a heavy crate onto the truck bed. The soldiers moved with purpose, their mission clear: establish a stronghold deep within the forest.

They departed from the main camp carrying all these weapons and with the road is already cleared out by the machinery, it wasn't hard for them to drive their offroad vehicles in this hard terrain.

But just as they were about to reach the destination, a thunderous crack split the air. A massive tree crashed down onto the main truck, sending a cascade of debris raining down. The convoy screeched to a halt.

"What in hell was that?!" exclaimed one of the soldiers, his eyes wide with shock.

Commander Anderson wasted no time. He leapt out of the lead vehicle, his hand instinctively reaching for his pistol. Something wasn't right; the forest seemed to hold its breath, an eerie silence settling over the scene.

"There's no way a tree would fall like this without anything happening," He muttered to himself.

As Anderson cautiously approached the fallen tree, a chill ran down his spine. He could hear faint rustling amidst the foliage, the unmistakable sound of movement.

"Stay alert, men," he whispered, his senses on high alert.

Before he could react, a cold steel barrel pressed against the back of his head. A voice, rough and gravelly, spoke from behind him which he knew belonged to a young man rather than a middle-aged or old person.

"Drop your weapon, soldier, or your brains will decorate these trees traveller from the other side."

At first Anderson thought of resisting but feeling the cold barrel of the pistol and knowing that he was more than an easy target, he decided to put his foolish ambition to a rest.

Anderson's heart raced as he complied, slowly lowering his pistol to the ground. Panic surged through him as he realized the gravity of the situation.

As he turned to face his captor, he saw the clearing swarming with figures dressed in primitive garb, their faces obscured by masks and war paint. They held an assortment of firearms, their eyes gleaming with an unsettling intensity.

There were women who looked as if they were professionals in handling guns, and the man who was holding the gun to his head, a blond handsome man, who looked as if he was the leader of this group and for some reason, Anderson was able to identify this man.

"We've walked right into a trap," Anderson muttered, his mind racing for a way out. But with most of his men already unconscious and outnumbered by the not so mysterious assailants, escape seemed futile.

The commander clenched his jaw, steeling himself for whatever lay ahead. In the heart of the forest, surrounded by danger on all sides, their mission had taken an unexpected turn.

'It won't be strange for these savages to kill me here, so do I go down without a fight?'

Anderson thought, but when he heard the mysterious blond man giving his orders to primitive-looking people of his, he was taken by surprise as he didn't think that they would be allowed to leave.

"Traveller from the other side, inform your leader that sooner or later, I will come to meet her and convey that Eva also sends her regards. I will permit you and your people to leave for now, at least, but do not make the mistake of harming my people. We are merely taking your weapons and supplies because we need to protect ourselves against the technology you possess. Remove all clothing and depart," the blond man muttered without lowering his gun from Anderson's head.

"If you're lucky, you will be able to reach your leader without any wild animal attacking you," The woman who had darker skin muttered while disarming all of Anderson's men.

With a nod of understanding, Anderson relayed the message to his men, instructing them to comply with the demands of their captors. As the soldiers were disarmed and the supplies confiscated, Anderson couldn't shake the feeling of impending danger looming over them.

As the blond man directed his people to take control of the confiscated weapons and supplies, Anderson's gaze lingered on him. There was something familiar about the man, something that stirred a memory deep within him.

Finally, the blond man gestured for his people to get ready to leave and with a mix of relief and apprehension, they began to gather their loot and prepare to depart.

"They couldn't possibly drive our trucks, right?" Anderson questioned himself.

But he was proven wrong as the blond man confidently climbed into one of the trucks, starting its engine with a practised hand.

"Looks like they can," Anderson muttered to himself, astonished and impressed at the same time.

Meanwhile, two women from the mysterious group also climbed into the remaining vehicles, effortlessly taking control of the steering wheels.

"They're driving our trucks!" one of Anderson's men exclaimed in disbelief.

The blond man glanced back at Anderson with a smirk. "We'll take good care of them, don't worry."

Anderson could only watch in disbelief as his captors, with their primitive appearance and technology fears, drove off with their stolen supplies and vehicles, leaving him and his men stranded in the wilderness.

One of Anderson's soldiers couldn't contain his curiosity any longer. "Who is that man, sir?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Anderson's gaze hardened as he turned to face his men. "That man," he said gravely, "is the key to ensuring the success of our mission. He holds the knowledge we seek, and he is our only hope of finding the meteor we've been searching for. To be more precise the thing that guide him is the same thing that betrayed our nation and acted on her own."

With a heavy heart, Anderson led his team away from the forest clearing, their minds buzzing with questions and uncertainty and upon hearing the report about what happened the whole team including Mia felt like they heard something out of a fairy tale.

"That bitch! I knew that boy had talent, but to learn to drive so easily and form this kind of a plan against our trained military," Mia shouted in anger, but she quickly calmed down.

"Is he ready? Can we control him after everything we did to him?" Suddenly, Mia heard a voice behind her, which belonged to none other than the muscular old man who entered the room, observing everything without displaying much emotion despite the events and the lost vehicles.

"General, I hope you're not here to blame everything that happened on me. But to answer your question... yes, he is ready. We ensured that his hands and legs won't function anymore, and if we can administer the proper dosage of meteor energy into his body, we might be able to locate the larger one using his body," Mia replied to Oswald's question.

"We could have avoided all this trouble if you knew how to use the small meteor piece we already possess to find the larger one... but you're not as competent as that woman, I guess," Oswald remarked.

Mia gritted her teeth at Oswald's words but forced a smile and replied, "It's not possible to extract the meteor piece from the vacuum. Will you take responsibility if something happens, General?"

"Well, get ready to organize the largest search party for the bigger piece of meteor. Don't worry about those weapons and vehicles. I will retrieve them as soon as we find what we are searching for. After all, we need that blond-haired brat alive for now," General Oswald said as he left the room, leaving Mia to bite her lips in frustration.

"What an asshole!" she muttered. "I hope we can find this meteor so I can forget about these people."
