Re: Apocalypse Game

Chapter 194 Rescue

Chapter 194 Rescue

Through the chaos and overwhelming darkness of the night, Rose carefully peered through the scope of her sniper rifle, her keen perception allowing her to discern familiar details in the distant darkness. Her heart raced as she confirmed the identity of the figure below.

"That's Alan! He's here!" Rose exclaimed, her voice a mixture of relief and excitement.

Surrounded by the relentless tide of thousands of undead that had almost overrun the watchtower, Rose's smile radiated hope and determination. Alan had not only arrived unscathed but also wielding a sword in one hand and a shotgun in the other. His lost limb had miraculously recovered, and he had brought with him a formidable group of warriors, each adorned with distinctive blue tattoos.

Alan's authoritative command pierced the night air. "Attack!" he shouted, and without hesitation, the warriors under his leadership leaped into the midst of the oncoming horde, their weapons slashing and firing with deadly precision, cutting down the undead left and right.

A mere two hours prior, Alan had successfully completed his hidden quest with utmost precision, achieving a remarkable four-level gain in the process. His triumph came with the invaluable rewards of both a B-rank and C-rank rewards.

However, the elation was short-lived as he realized the price he had paid for his victory. The legendary sword, was now firmly embedded in the stone altar. Alan's desperate attempts to free the sword were met with futility, and the once-majestic blade had lost its luster, turning into lifeless stone.

Alan's frustration and disappointment welled up, and he was tempted to cry out in anguish. Yet, he knew he had to move on. Taking a deep breath, he tried to lift his spirits by examining the item drops he had collected from the corpses of over 200 D-rank skeletons. Among the loot, he discovered a plethora of 40 different common items and a dozen uncommon ones. Some of the uncommon items, much to Alan's relief, were items he could put to use.

However, there was a particular discovery that nearly brought tears to Alan's eyes amidst the chaos. Unbeknownst to him earlier, one of the Wraiths had dropped its sword:

[RingWraith Sword]

[Type: Sword Weapon]

[Rarity: Superior]

[Attributes: Damage 46 - 64]

[Effects: Speed increase 20%]

[Equipment Rating: 33]

[Able to Bring Outside the Game: No]

[Remarks: Not advisable for the weak-hearted; the sword can emit a chilling, shrieking sound when used]

The sword was sleek and dark, with a sinister aura that seems to absorb light. Etched upon it are cryptic, eldritch symbols that give an impression of ancient and dark magic. The hilt was ornate, adorned with twisted, gnarled designs reminiscent of decay and corruption. When wielded, the sword emits an unsettling, ghostly glow.

Alan examined the Ringwraith Sword with a sense of awe and appreciation. While it might not rival the legendary Excalibur sword he had previously wielded, it was undoubtedly one of the best superior swords he had ever come across. The cursed effect it carried could prove invaluable in battles against opponents with high defense or substantial health pools, making it a formidable weapon choice, especially for boss fights.

As Alan returned to the village, he was welcomed as a hero by the Fey villagers. Their cheers and expressions of gratitude filled the air, and it was a heartwarming sight for the weary warrior. Amidst the celebrations, Alan's missing limbs did not go unnoticed. To his astonishment, the old chief of the Fey, a venerable figure, produced a wooden staff and began chanting an enchanting spell. Before Alan's eyes, his missing arm started to regenerate.

"What the hell... you really should've done this before the fight," Alan couldn't help but jest, a mixture of amazement and humor in his voice. However, the surprises weren't over yet. Alan received a notification indicating a significant boost in his relationship with the Fey villagers

[Your relationship status with NPCs has increased from Neutral to Elated]

[Merlin - Legendary]

[Type: Human]

[Rank: C+]

[Status: Elated]

The encounter with the legendary NPC left Alan with mixed emotions. While he was grateful for the help he had received, he couldn't help but wonder why this prominent figure hadn't assisted in defeating the undead menace earlier. The feeling of being manipulated gnawed at him, but he knew that dwelling on it wouldn't change the present situation.

Alan decided to make the most of this opportunity. He engaged the old wizard in conversation, hoping to glean more information about the undead plague that had plagued Britannia Island. As he probed deeper, he uncovered the intricate backstory behind their predicament.

It was revealed that the curse upon their shrine had been wrought by none other than their own priestess. She had come into possession of a dark and forbidden artifact known as [The Book of the Dead] With its malevolent power, she had conjured forth the dreaded [Lich King], a necromancer of immense power responsible for the unholy resurrection of the dead.

The old wizard's voice trembled as he implored Alan to take on the monumental task of stopping the priestess and preventing the impending apocalypse. Alan could sense that a hidden quest was on the horizon, so he played his role convincingly and pledged to confront the priestess and face the dark forces threatening Britannia Island head-on. In response to his commitment, a notification appeared on his game link, signaling the beginning of a new adventure.

[Hidden quest activated]

[You received a B-level quest: Stop Morgana the Fey Witch]

The prospect of delving deeper into this new chain quest, one he had never heard of in his previous life, was both exciting and daunting. If he succeeded in defeating Morgana and destroying the accursed book, it could mean a respite from the relentless undead onslaught and the salvation of countless players.

Upon accepting the quest, Alan was surprised to find that his relationship with the Fey chief had deepened even further, now labeled as [Trusted]. The Fey chief wasted no time rallying his best warriors, ready to stand beside Alan in the quest ahead. Champion NPC Guninevere was also eager to join the group.

While the support of these formidable allies was heartening, Alan couldn't shake the growing concern about the quest's difficulty, especially with so many NPCs joining the mission. The B-rank quest had just become much more challenging and terrifying. His unease deepened when a Fey warrior rushed in with news of an undead assault on a nearby watchtower.

"Come with me," Alan implored, "let's put an end to this undead threat once and for all!"

#####

With a group of over 50 Fey warriors, comprised of melee combatants and archers, Alan fearlessly charged into the midst of the seemingly endless horde of undead. Among his companions, the Fey chief and Wizard Merlin displayed his extraordinary abilities by summoning a powerful spell that took half a minute to chant. As he unleashed the spell, a towering pillar of fire erupted from the ground, illuminating the dark night and transforming into a devastating tornado of flames that incinerated any undead unfortunate enough to be caught in its path.

Amidst the chaos, Alan shouted his orders to the warriors, guiding them through the sea of undead toward the besieged watchtower. With his sword in one hand and a sawed-off shotgun in the other, he dispatched countless foes. As they neared the watchtower, a group led by Milo, including the fellow convicts, emerged from the structure and joined the battle outside.

Together, they fought tirelessly for another grueling hour until the first rays of morning light began to grace the horizon. It was then that the long-awaited notification finally appeared, bringing a glimmer of hope to their beleaguered group.

[You have passed the fifth night]

[2 more nights to survive]

The countdown continued, and Alan knew that the trials they faced were far from over.
