Chapter 93: Espada Ad Grimveil

2—Spatial Severing: Sever the space while maintaining a connection between severed space or displace the connections.

3—Absolute Severing: Sunder everything you are able to perceive.

This skill was a power that Almond deemed batshit crazy and activated his neurons in hyper mode, giving him a sort of high as if he was a god within the domain of this skill.

Almond wanted his 2nd class skill to be of powerful offense but also to have more comprehensive powers that included the aspects of his class, and Espada Ad Grimveil was the result of his enlightenment for 24 hours in the Skill Insight session. He also improved his class’s Legendary Quirk—Riftveil Eyes since he gained more understanding of his specialized class.

He explored the skill’s power and created three techniques so far, and they felt enough for now.

At the moment, he was exploring the mysterious phenomenon of ’skill room’ as he termed it, to learn more about his primary class’s powers and skills.

He also planned to learn the new S-rank skills from the skill book.

This dungeon was otherworldly and serene. Almond found it good for meditation, especially at this Horizon’s edge.

’Let’s check the Spirit Explosion first. I want to modify it a bit.’

Inside the skill room, he could see three sections.

One section belonged to his primary class. The second one belonged to his specialized class. The third one belonged to classless skills.

Each section had unique semi-metallic-looking runes with eccentric patterns that formed otherworldly symbols—they were skill runes containing the mechanism of the skills.

Items also had engraved skill runes within them that gave them their magical effects. Only those with Perceptive and Focus above 50 could begin to find them.

Naturally, Almond could not wrap his head around how skill runes formed yet. He didn’t witness the process of one forming. But learning the Skills from the skill book would allow him to witness one.

But even though he couldn’t create skill runes, he could explore one and fiddle with it inside, as he did with the Wild Blade skill rune in his sword.

Since his Primary Class had predefined skill runes that could get affected automatically by his performance and stats increase in Perception and Focus, Almond wanted to affect them actively.

Almond was soon absorbed in learning and exploring.

Two hours passed by in the blink of an eye as Almond made a proper summary of the skill runes’ structure based on his interpretation and his experiments with them.

From his understanding, the skill runes were purely made of Mana in condensed, stasis form in a way that would allow it to channel one’s Mana and transform it according to the skill rune’s internal structure and manifest its power.

A Skill Rune had three sections.

Design Section.

Core Section.

Execution Section.

From what he learned, the design section acted like a blueprint of the skill. If someone filled the Design section of a skill rune, but the other two sections were empty, then the skill rune would be useless. It wouldn’t do anything at all except dispersing infused Mana.

It determined:

1-Shape and Motion: How the skill appears or behaves for any type of skill, be it defensive, attack, buff, or any other. (e.g., the shape of a ball to fill it with fire energy, a slash-shape, simple sparks, or aura visibility.).

2-Trigger Mechanism: Determines how the skill is activated, such as verbal commands, gestures, or pure thought.

3-Range and Area of Effect: Specify the effective reach of the skill (single target, AoE, or self-cast).

This part wasn’t hard. It was just design, nothing of substance, without the core section and execution section.

The next part was the tricky one—The core section.

It was the heart of a skill rune. It defined the skill’s attribute alignment, power source, and intensity.

To create this section of a skill rune, a person must have ’sufficient’ Mana control according to the effect they desire.

This section determined mainly three things:

1—Attribute alignment: Fire, water, wind, etc, or any perceived magical phenomenon with an attribute.

2—Power source: determines the ratio of mana potency vs. control. An overbalanced ratio causes explosive burst effects, while a balanced ratio yields precise and sustained effects.

3—Amplification nodes: small sub-runes embedded in the core to increase the potency or refine the Mana energy’s output.

Example of Core section:

—A flame-shaped core with amplification nodes arranged symmetrically would channel fire energy in a controlled burst—Spewing constant flames from one’s hand or conjuring a flower that constantly rains pollen with some kind of effect.

—A jagged, chaotic infusion pattern might result in wild, unpredictable elemental discharges. If the desired result was just an explosion, this would work.

There were also ways to combine the two and make it such that it would be in a controlled motion at first and then burst, much like how Almond had already done that with his pure control inside Espada Ad Grimveil, where he splintered his single slash into six slashes.

The third section—Execution Section.

This section governed how the Mana exited the rune, whether through the body or manifest within the sensible range of the user to interact with the environment or target.

This section determined:

1—Duration: Whether the skill is instantaneous, channeled, or persistent based on work done in the core section to dictate it.

2—Aftereffects: Attribute effects, Residual damage, buffs, debuffs, or environmental changes caused by the skill based on the skill’s core section structure.

3—Efficiency: A network section connecting all the above that determines the Mana cost and stamina drain relative to the skill’s various parameters and post-execution impact.

After making a summary of the skill creation’s mechanism, Almond decided to create a simple skill rune based on a new technique he had recently created—Sword Thread.
