Chapter 141 Multimedia Expansions
On Monday afternoon, Vince Dalton received a NetServ notification of the successful meeting with Lockheed Martin from Mike Krieger.
He stopped the current project he'd been working on for months now, the Augmented Cyberspace. Instead, he decided to assign the necessary personnel in attempting to follow through on their promise to re-develop a single variant F-35 Fighter Jet.
The initiative was utterly crucial to Future Tech's political and military partners, so Vince instructed Kevin Lawson of FT F1, Heidi McGuire of FT Robotics, and Andreas of FT Manufacturing to assist with the redesign.
After an hour of micro-managing Future Tech's various divisions involved, Vince received a critical call he'd been expecting from Dr. Sera.
Vince skipped his morning gym session for a follow-up appointment at the Future Med Hospital and then was told to go about his day usually while waiting for the updated results.
Dr. Sera seemed calm over the phone as she said, "We have good news, Vince. Based on data we collected from treating your mother, your condition is at its earliest stages and won't be fatal until you're around 40 years old. My team also uncovered the reason why the disease is affecting you the opposite way it did for your mother, making you feel stronger. It's because of the nutrition fluid, or what your friends call Ether."
Vince recalled his increasing reliance on Ether after a long day of work or a tiring gym session. Nutrition fluid wasn't developed for mass production but to maintain the health of deep-sleep pilots deployed in the field.
Dr. Sera continued explaining, "The FDA trials focused on the negative side effects of Ether and didn't take into account rare conditions such as Glucolysis. The Ether you've been consuming is actively helping your red blood cells transport glucose through your muscle tissues, resulting in elevated strength levels. I suggest drinking only one bottle a day because exerting extra stress through your heart and muscles may have negative effects in the long run. Future Med will perform further quality assurance procedures in synthesizing Ether and testing to research more about its interaction with Glucolysis."
Vince heeded the good doctor's advice and replied, "Thanks for the diligence, Doctor. You can spend more resources investigating my case, but don't sacrifice too much of your Cancer treatment program."
Dr. Sera asked Vince to update her if he felt any different as soon as possible before bidding farewell.
As he sat comfortably on his office chair, Vince sighed in relief, knowing he didn't have to worry about his mysterious condition effects anymore.
-----------------
A few floors below the penthouse, a Taiwanese-American man in his late 20s had been occupied with his new duties as Executive Director of Future Tech Broadcasting.
The Executive Board approved a budget injection of 1$ billion for Oliver's department to expand the corporation's media properties on the new platform, so he decided to purchase the Japan-based animation company, Production I.G.
The acquisition was worth $50 million, incorporating all I.G's subsidiaries, including Wit Studio, the team responsible for the current hit Anime series, Attack on Titan.
The beloved show was now available as one of the Infinity Channel's free media options, for viewers with only a basic account, along with other Anime shows under I.G's umbrella.
The talented animators now had better financial security and production tools available to them, such as the complete Infinity Unreal Engine toolset that many of their peers, including Studio Ufotable, had been singing praises about nonstop.
The aesthetic harmony between 3D Computer Generated Imagery and hand-drawn design had always been an issue for Anime shows like Berzerk and Overlord. Still, it was now more approachable with Future Tech's state-of-the-art media production suite.
The recruitment of more animation specialists allowed Oliver to greenlight a new Infinity Channel TV series based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe that was a mix of jaw-dropping CGI and live-action actors meant to capitalize on the popularity of shows like Game of Thrones.
Rumors and whispers about a Future Tech Executive shopping around for an Anime Studio received notice from Crunchyroll, the biggest Anime streaming platform in the West.
Crunchyroll had always skirted the lines between the legal and illegal distribution of Anime but recently began to legitimize themselves by dealing with studios directly.
Even then, their small internet media company was overlooked during the creation of the Infinity Channel, as Future Tech focused on persuading media giants like Disney and Viacom to join the initiative.
The situation didn't deter one of Crunchyroll's founders and current CEO, Kun Gao, from reaching out to Future Tech after learning of its interest in the Anime industry.
Kun Gao understood his online distribution company required extensive financial support to achieve his shared dream of Crunchyroll becoming the western portal to eastern animation.
His company was able to do it in Vince's previous life by selling a controlling stake to a New York media conglomerate with ties to News Corp for $100 million. Still, it sold the company to Oliver instead to leverage the rapidly growing Infinity Channel.
Future Tech Broadcasting would integrate Crunchyroll into the multi-media streaming platform, similar to Twitch, Instagram, and other media content applications in its ecosystem.
Otaku NetServ subscribers were ecstatic to hear the news online about premium Crunchyroll now included in their subscription bundles, though Attack on Titan would remain free for free tier accounts.
Oliver then turned to Future Tech's bread and butter, livestreaming, for expansion and considered what the younger generation like Vince and his friends would enjoy watching live.
Oliver was surprised to hear of many different suggestions 3D Jaden and Wonder Alice proposed when he brought up the topic during the weekend concert after-party at the Digital Den a week before his promotion.
As the number one female livestreamer on Twitch, she knew a thing or two about what the viewers wanted to watch and suggested seemingly simple ideas such as getting popular streamers together to play stupid challenges like Family Feud or Wipe Out.
Jaden proposed something like an annual award show where streamers could meet up in real life at a single location to hang out and create content together.
They had so many ideas, but Oliver respected their industry as much as Vince did and later noted all their proposals to deliberate with his department.
Aside from animation and livestreaming, another revenue stream the Infinity Channel facilitated was pay-per-view content.
Vince had already negotiated a split deal with Dana White to distribute the Ultimate Fighting Championship to the highest number of countries in its history by leveraging the international nature of the NetServ platform.
Oliver improved the pay-per-view offerings by signing profitable deals with the big three boxing promoters, Top Rank, Golden Boy Promotions, and Mayweather Promotions.
Potential viewers could now easily purchase viewing rights for limited-time events such as UFC and Boxing fights during the weekends.
The Infinity Channel could practically accommodate almost every type of entertainment consumer ranging from Anime Otaku to Fight Club fanatics and everyone in between.
Oliver chose to save the rest of the liquid cash Vince gave him for projects developing more movies, anime shows, and TV series and employing more qualified production staff for Future Tech Broadcasting's operational needs.
Though the Infinity Channel was very new to many, Future Tech management was faithful the platform would garner millions or billions of international viewers sooner rather than later.
------
The walls were stunningly spray-painted by a professional at the Future Studios offices, featuring the employee's favorite video game references and Easter eggs from video games like War Online, Doom, Everlife, and many others.
A young Latin-American man was focused on designing data flow diagrams for Marvel's Iron Man video game, currently in pre-production. Tim Sweeney, the Future Studios Executive Director, instructed his junior to prepare an overview, including information they discussed with the Disney liaisons, based on the many game development concepts the Epic Games CEO had drilled into Kyle since 2011.
Tim had always been impressed by Kyle's tenacity, obsessive work ethic, and passion for creating video games, unlike Vince Dalton. But unfortunately, the latter treated it as only one of Future Tech's many businesses.
Kyle's progress in game development was only comparable to Jessica's innate brilliance in programming, demonstrating the possibility of acquiring quality skills through experience and mentorship, in contrast to traditional educational institutions like universities and colleges.
The experienced game developers had slowly transitioned to newer projects after training and educating their colleagues who had recently joined the corporation, like John Carmack and his Id Software staff.
The legendary game company that pioneered the FPS genre went through an in-depth boot camp to familiarize themselves with the Infinity Unreal Engine and the myriad of Future Tech's tools and plugs.
Now, after two and a half months of training, John and Id Software were reassigned by Tim Sweeney to polish and refine the War Online update and Everlife expansion, to improve their skills further before taking on an entirely new project.
John Carmack absorbed all the new information like a sponge through sheer passion and drove to harness the Hypervisor and its engine fully. He spent plenty of time working with physics simulations and improving the practical utilization of artificial intelligence in video games.
Kyle reminisced of the early days of Future Tech while writing data diagrams on his Infinity Workstation and pondered in gratitude, [It all started when I was playing Jetpack Pack Joyride on my phone, and now I'm directly involved in developing the new Iron Man video game. It's like I'm living in a fantasy.]
