Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 70 - 70 Survivors

Chapter 70: Chapter 70 Survivors

The two of them stared intently at the pitch-dark corridor, and sure enough, following a dragging sound from footsteps on the floor, a blood-soaked male Zombie ran out from the darkness. One of his arms was missing, the other appeared to have been torn off by something.

Lu Hao stepped in front of Su Jin and kicked the approaching male Zombie away, then plunged the Ghost Hand Knife directly into the Zombie’s forehead.

Because of the noise made by the male Zombie, the motion-sensor lights in the dim stairwell also lit up, and the two finally saw clearly what the corridor looked like.

As expected, the stairs and walls were almost completely covered in bloodstains, but there were no bodies to be found, which was suspiciously clean.

“It looks like it could be a mutant animal of some sort,” analyzed Su Jin.

“Right, let’s try to avoid that.”

Lu Hao moved to the front, planning to lead them out as soon as possible.

Aside from bloodstains, the clean stairwell was empty, not even a single Zombie in sight. The two safely arrived at the door Yin Chengtian had mentioned.

Upon hearing the knocking, Yin Chengtian felt that he had never heard such a pleasant sound in his life. Although it was just a light series of three knocks, Yin Chengtian and Shi Jin almost ran to open the door.

“Captain!”

Yin Chengtian was so overjoyed he wept, knowing what Captain Lu’s personal rescue meant for them—it was nothing short of risking their lives to save the two of them.

“Sister-in-law, you were amazing just now, just like a female knight,” Shi Jin struck up a conversation with Su Jin who was coming up behind.

“It was nothing.”

Su Jin replied modestly.

“Have you packed everything? We need to leave here immediately,” said Lu Hao.

“We’re ready.”

Yin Chengtian and Shi Jin quickly grabbed the climbing bags prepared at the door. Captain Lu had already instructed them to leave immediately upon his arrival without any delay, so the two had packed everything they needed to take well in advance.

Lu Hao nodded, and the four of them prepared to leave.

Just then, the door to the neighboring apartment opened. Su Jin was about to raise her knife when she saw that the person who came out was a human, a young girl.

“Can you, can you take me with you?”

The girl’s voice was soft and mealy, catching Yin Chengtian and Shi Jin off guard for a moment.

If this wasn’t the Apocalypse, Su Jin would find the girl in front of her with delicate makeup and a short skirt quite cute. But in these times, such behavior of the girl was undoubtedly purposive.

“I’m sorry, but our car is already full,” Su Jin said, wanting to politely decline the request.

“I don’t take up much space, or, I can just squeeze in with you guys…”

The girl emphasized, even blushing as she spoke.

Yin Chengtian had come to his senses, realizing this woman was just trouble. She couldn’t seem to take her eyes off Captain Lu.

“There’s no room, we’re in a hurry,” Yin Chengtian said impatiently.

As Lu Hao and the others turned to leave, the girl suddenly sat down on the ground, crying, and pointed at them shouting loudly, “I know you guys, you two are police officers, right? Isn’t it your duty to save people?!”

There were quite a few Survivors in this apartment building who had been closely watching Su Jin and Lu Hao, so when the girl opened the door, they all pressed against their doors to listen, and also heard her claim that they were police officers.

What a joke, the police actually ignoring the lives and safety of the people? The girl’s shout had caused all the Survivors on the floor to open their doors.

“Which bureau are you from? I’m going to report you for disregarding our safety!” said an older, slightly overweight man angrily.

“Yeah, young man, you guys are strong and are officers. Isn’t this the time when you should share some of your food with us?”

“We’ve run out of food at our place, please help us out, officer!”

Yin Chengtian and Shi Jin were almost angered to death. It had not been easy for Captain Lu to arrive, only to be morally kidnapped by this crowd. Just as Yin Chengtian was about to lose his temper, Su Jin stopped him.

“Don’t make a sound, there’s something.”

Su Jin signaled the three to slowly retreat back into the room, while the residents in the corridor thought they were scared and began to curse even more fiercely.

Suddenly, there was a sharp scream—it was that girl from before!

Everyone looked towards the direction of the scream, only to see a Golden Python nearly half a meter thick squeezing the short-skirted girl to death.

At that moment, the Golden Python had already swallowed the girl from the chest up into its belly, and the rest of her body was still struggling desperately, whether it was an involuntary bodily reflex or because she had not yet died completely!

“Could this be the pet python from Old Zhao’s house?” the Glasses Man in the corridor was so scared he froze on the spot.

The others had already rushed back to their homes and secured their doors, and Glasses Man finally came to his senses and ran towards his front door. By this time, the Golden Python on the ground had almost totally devoured the girl and seemed to sense that its prey was trying to escape. Its tail swiftly shot into the air, wrapping around Glasses Man!

“No, save me!”

Glasses Man tried to push away the Golden Python’s tail with both hands, but the tail, thicker than his arm, didn’t budge an inch.

“Lu Hao, I want the Beast Core in its head,”

Su Jin’s eyes gleamed as she looked at the mutant python.
