Chapter 412 – This isn’t a one-way street after all (2)
Jiang DeXian insisted on taking her home so Fang JunRong gave in. When they arrived home, the two went for a stroll in the backyard. It was late in the night but Fang JunRong wasn’t sleepy. She was still fairly awake.
The clear and cold moon shone down into the garden and cast a silver layer of frost over the blooming flowers.
The garden was quiet and peaceful and gave a very different feel than it did in the day time.
Basking in the moonlight, Fang JunRong’s mood settled down.
She said suddenly, “When I died in my previous life, it, too, was a full moon night. When I was lying in that bed, the moon was the best thing that I could see.”
How did she feel back then?
Desperation, sadness, relief…… Perhaps a little bit of all. The moon was as pretty as it was tonight but she wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it.
In the blink of an eye, it had already been years since her rebirth. The desperation that she felt back then had been lessened.
“I showed up too late.”
Jiang DeXian sounded very regretful. He was still building up his wealth at the time and wasn’t the new and rising tycoon in business yet.
Fang JunRong smiled slightly, “What did that have to do with you?”
Her tone was very mellow. “I am very glad about what you have done for me.” It let her know that no matter how poorly she did in that lifetime, there was still someone who wanted justice for her.
She looked up at the moon quietly. It was not that much different than how she remembered it but how she felt was completely different.
She had been manipulative, she had schemed, and she was finally able to change her own life and those around her.
She had no idea what the future held but, at this very moment, she was happy and content.
She turned and said to Jiang DeXian a little while later, “I suddenly feel that a little bit of change occasionally is not a bad thing.”
Jiang DeXian didn’t understand what she meant by that. He only felt that her side profile was mysteriously pretty under the moon and the curvature of her lips was like fine wine, attracting others to explore.
But he didn’t dare.
He did not dare to risk offending her before she allowed it.
Fang JunRong dragged out her words and said slowly, “I’ve mentioned before that I wanted to take things slow and wait for a few more years before I date, right?”
The possibility that had occurred to Jiang DeXian made his heart race and his mouth dry. “You……”
“I regret it now.”
For a handsome man like him who had opened up his heart to her and continued to be patient and hold himself back, it was also a form of a torture even to her.
She got closer to him and planted a kiss that was light like a cicada’s wing on his cheek. It brushed across his cheek like a feather and made Jiang DeXian wonder if he was dreaming.
He heard an explosion in his ears and heat radiated out from where her lips had touched.
Her breath that landed on his cheek formed into a net and he was more than willing to be trapped inside this net.
His body tensed and he had lost his ability to talk at that moment.
Fang JunRong said to him, “You can stay for the night.” She purposefully paused for a few seconds and, with a hint of a smile in her voice, said, “But you have to stay in the guest bedroom.”
When Jiang DeXian had regained his ability to think, he was the only one left in the garden. He had no idea when Fang JunRong left.
What had just happened was unrealistically beautiful as though it was a dream.
Jiang DeXian stroked his face reflexively and his lips curved upward.
***
Jiang DeXian was so excited that he tossed and turned and barely got any sleep all night long. There were dark circles under his eyes when he showed up at the dinner table the next morning.
As opposed to him, Fang JunRong looked very well rested. She slept all the way to the morning after she had finished teasing Jiang DeXian and did not let that affect her at all.
Jiang DeXian took a deep breath. He felt just like a little teenage boy even though he was already in his 30s.
His heart, though, felt like it was dipped in honeyed water when he saw the food on the dinner table.
Many of the dishes were ones that he liked.
This wasn’t a one-way street after all.
