Though Yaeger quickly pulled her hand away from Allie, the virus and a portion of the abnormal energy had already invaded her body!
‘I messed up!' She stepped back from Allie, forcing herself to stay calm as she examined her own condition. She could feel the virus and abnormal energy rampaging through her, filling her with searing pain.
“Ahh!” Yaeger clenched her fists, quickly circulating her life energy in an attempt to combat the invaders. But… It wasn’t working as well as she hoped.
She felt as if one half of her body was engulfed in flames, while the other half was frozen in ice. This was the true essence of fire and ice—it was almost unbearable.
On top of that, the abnormal energy had unique destructive properties that seemed intent on tearing her apart!
‘This is a disaster. I should have been more careful!' After her recent string of successes, Yaeger had grown slightly overconfident. She wasn’t as cautious as she once was. And that had led her straight into this predicament.
Regret was useless now. Finding a way out was all that mattered.
‘What should I do? How can I escape this?' While Yaeger wrestled with her panic, Allie suddenly leapt out of the bed.
“It’s so hot and so cold—this time for real! Princess, you…” Allie pointed at Yaeger, halting her sentence midway. She had noticed Yaeger’s expression was unusually grim, her face deathly pale.“Stay back!” Yaeger quickly warned, noticing Allie’s approach.
“What’s wrong with you?” Allie stopped, her voice full of concern.
“A small… error. Just stay where you are—I’ll fix it soon.” Yaeger’s discomfort was so intense, she closed her eyes as she forced the words out.
Deeply worried, Allie stayed put, not wanting to worsen the situation with any rash actions.
‘The [Green Emperor’s Longevity Manual] is barely effective against this energy. What should I do?' Yaeger felt her anxiety spike, like an ant trapped on a hot stove. If she couldn’t expel or neutralize the abnormal energy soon, it would likely tear her apart from within.
‘There’s only one shot at this!' Gritting her teeth, she forced her mind into overdrive. It felt as if time had frozen. ‘With my mind at maximum capacity, time feels like it’s slowed down drastically. But I can’t hold this state for long—I have to find a solution fast!'
Of course, Yaeger hadn’t actually stopped time. Her cognitive ability was simply in overdrive, creating the illusion that time had slowed.
But this state drained her mental energy rapidly. If she couldn’t come up with a plan before it ran out… Her only fate would be death.
‘The virus isn’t affecting me much—I’ll ignore it for now. The real threat is that abnormal energy. It’s tearing through my body at an insane speed. At this rate, I’ll be torn apart in ten seconds, tops.’
‘Even with my Divine Body and the Artifact’s protection, this energy is ripping me apart. It’s terrifying how destructive it is. I can’t believe Allie managed to endure this for so long. Her resilience must be incredible… Wait!'
With that thought, a spark of inspiration suddenly flashed through Yaeger’s mind.
‘I have the Celestial Race’s ultimate bloodline and a Divine Body—my constitution is far stronger than most. If Allie could survive this, then there’s no reason I can’t. That’s it! I can use [Devourer] to absorb the damage!'
With her substantial Mana reserves, using [Devourer] would double its absorption effect. Additionally, the [Chaos God Ring] could halve all physical and magical damage she took.
With any luck, she might be able to suppress the energy— or, in the best-case scenario, eliminate it completely.
After mentally running through the process once, Yaeger felt a wave of fatigue, and her cognitive overdrive came to an end. Time resumed its normal flow.
A surge of intense pain flooded her mind, overwhelming her senses.
“[Devourer].” Murmuring softly, Yaeger activated her innate skill, enduring the pain coursing through her.
At that moment, the abnormal energy raging within her seemed to sense the threat and tried to escape. But her body was like a sealed prison—there was nowhere for it to go.
In an instant, a black hole-like void appeared, pulling the abnormal energy toward it and swallowing it whole. Yaeger’s expression eased for a moment. But the relief was short-lived.
[Devourer] soon hit its limit on the damage it could absorb. The remaining damage burst through her body all at once.“Ahh!” The excruciating pain forced a groan from Yaeger.
Immediately, one thought filled her mind: ‘Oh no, this is the end!’
She couldn’t believe that even with her noble bloodline, enhanced physique, and powerful Artifact, she was still helpless against this energy. How powerful was this so-called spatial storm?
‘I can’t believe I’ll die from something like this… How absurd.' The thought made Yaeger let out a small, self-mocking smile. Just as she was about to give in to despair, a system notification rang out.
Ding! Your innate skill [Devourer] has reached full proficiency. You have gained a new passive ability: [Devouring Assimilation].
Ding! [Devouring Assimilation] activated. Spatial Attribute Resistance increased by 1%.
Ding! [Devouring Assimilation] activated. Spatial Attribute Resistance increased by 1%.
Ding! …
The system notifications continued until Yaeger’s Spatial Attribute Resistance reached 30%. At the same time, Yaeger felt a profound change within her body. The excruciating pain began to fade.
The abnormal energy that had nearly torn her apart now barely harmed her at all. In fact, it could hardly move at all. It was as if it had been completely locked in place.
‘Is this my new passive ability? This is overpowered!' Yaeger was stunned. The energy that had once overpowered her was now completely suppressed by her new passive ability. The tables had turned so quickly that she was left in disbelief.
Meanwhile, Allie clenched her hands tightly, her heart gripped by deep anxiety.
‘Please be okay, please be okay!' If anything happened to Yaeger, Allie knew she would regret it for the rest of her life. ‘This is all because she was trying to help me. This is my fault!'
“Huh? It… absorbed?” Yaeger murmured, her face filled with shock. She hadn’t done anything, yet somehow, her body had absorbed every last trace of the abnormal energy. Not only that, but she could also feel a slight increase in her own strength.
“Did I… actually turn misfortune into fortune?” Yaeger muttered, gazing down at her pale, slender hands in disbelief.
