The entire battlefield fell into a stunned silence, leaving everyone dazed. Most players were at a complete loss, unable to process what had just happened. How could the nearly defeated [Giant Scorching Ape], immobilized in quicksand, suddenly lose its head? And what was that mysterious streak of purple light?
Only a handful of players recognized the signature flash of purple light. A shiver ran down their spines as they pieced the puzzle together, their faces pale with shock.
“This… this can’t be real, right?” Taurus stammered, his pupils dilated in disbelief as his body trembled uncontrollably. His voice quivered with an undertone of denial.
Mere moments earlier, he had been daydreaming about donning two new pieces of Epic Equipment and basking in glory. But in the blink of an eye, his hard-earned kill had been snatched away!
“It’s Black-hearted Princess!” S.K.Y. growled through clenched teeth. He was more attuned to her presence than anyone else on the battlefield. That unmistakable purple flash—it had been one of her devastating attacks. She had, without a doubt, stolen the kill.
Hearing this, Taurus’s eyes widened in shock, his mind momentarily blank. Then, rage twisted his features as he bellowed furiously, “Black-hearted Princess, I’ll tear you into a million pieces!”
Not far away, Yaeger lowered an empty High-Grade Mana recovery potion with a smug grin curling on her lips. Drawing Berserk Thunder, she unleashed [Multi Shot] with practiced precision.
In an instant, a storm of bolts rained down, drawing anguished cries from every corner.
“It’s Black-hearted Princess!”“She’s attacking us!”
“The pain—help!”
“Somebody, save me! I don’t want to die!”
“Run for your lives!”
Even when facing the [Giant Scorching Ape], they hadn’t shown this level of sheer terror. The raw fear of Black-hearted Princess was palpable.
“Stay calm! We outnumber her by thousands! There’s no reason to fear her!” S.K.Y. barked, desperate to keep the army’s morale intact.
Yet, his words barely rippled in the sea of chaos surrounding him.
A sinking sense of foreboding gripped S.K.Y. ‘They’re far more terrified of Black-hearted Princess than I anticipated. This chaos can’t go on!’
As S.K.Y. wrestled with his thoughts, the relentless barrage of attacks suddenly ceased. Though the battlefield was in disarray, not a single player had fallen.
S.K.Y. turned swiftly toward the direction of the arrow storm, but all he saw was emptiness. It was clear—Black-hearted Princess had no intention of killing them.
‘She’s mocking us!’ S.K.Y. felt a wave of humiliation surge through his chest. Turning toward Taurus, he saw the man trembling violently, his eyes bulging with uncontained fury.
“Black-hearted Princess!” Taurus growled through gritted teeth, his voice low and ominous, barely restrained by his seething anger.
S.K.Y. quickly realized that Taurus was lost to his rage, utterly incapable of taking command. If anything was to be salvaged, it would be up to him.
After a brief moment of thought, S.K.Y. activated the public Guild channel and called out, “Everyone, stay calm! Black-hearted Princess has fled the battlefield. We’re safe now!”
The panicked crowd froze, glancing around warily. It was true—the relentless hail of bolts had ceased.
“Looks like it’s true…”
“What just happened?”
“Wasn’t she trying to wipe us all out?”
Murmurs of confusion rippled through the crowd.
Noticing that the panic had subsided, S.K.Y. pressed on, “Listen closely! Black-hearted Princess ran away because we intimidated her!”
The crowd collectively froze, stunned by the claim. They had been the ones retreating in terror—how had the story been so suddenly flipped on its head? Even Taurus, still brimming with anger, turned to S.K.Y. with a look of incredulity.
“Think about it carefully!” S.K.Y. raised his arms dramatically, his voice filled with fervor. “Look at how much you’ve grown compared to before!”
The crowd blinked in confusion.
‘What’s changed about us?’
‘How could we be any different?’
Perplexed, they exchanged uncertain glances.
“Have you forgotten? You’re no longer the rookies you were in Broken Leaf City! You’ve grown stronger, and every one of you now wields at least one piece of Rare Equipment!” S.K.Y.’s voice brimmed with conviction. “Think about it—back then, could you have survived even one attack from Black-hearted Princess?”
“That… that’s actually true…” A Ranger checked his health bar. He’d only lost a fraction—barely a tenth—of his total health.
“We really have gotten stronger!”
“Absolutely!”
“Black-hearted Princess must have realized it before we did—that’s why she ran!”
“That explains it! I couldn’t understand why she fled so suddenly—she must’ve been afraid we’d overwhelm her!”
“Exactly! Now that we’re stronger, there’s no reason to fear Black-hearted Princess anymore!”
Taurus’s tense expression finally relaxed as he listened to the enthusiastic crowd. He seemed to share their newfound confidence.
What a remarkable change in perspective.
“Gentlemen, we’ve grown stronger! The Black-hearted Princess, who once struck fear into our hearts, will soon fall beneath us! If we work together, we can hunt her down and bring peace back to the Jade Empire!” S.K.Y. proclaimed.
With his impassioned speech, the fear of Black-hearted Princess began to fade from everyone’s hearts. To them, Black-hearted Princess no longer seemed invincible. They believed that united, they could surely bring her down.
S.K.Y. felt a wave of relief. Earlier, he had feared that their encounter would only deepen the players’ terror of Black-hearted Princess. Had that fear persisted, their plans to hunt down Black-hearted Princess would have crumbled before they even began.
Luckily, Black-hearted Princess had withdrawn after her single attack. This gave him the chance to rally the players and boost their morale to unprecedented levels.
“That’s right, gentlemen! Soon, we’ll destroy that vile and cunning Black-hearted Princess! Her end is near!” Taurus suddenly interjected.
S.K.Y. couldn’t hide his displeasure. ‘You were useless when morale was in shambles, and now you swoop in to steal the spotlight with your speech?’ he thought bitterly.
“Praise the Guild Master!”
“Guild Master is amazing!”
“Let’s kill Black-hearted Princess!”
“Kill her! Kill her!”
The crowd became a blazing fire of excitement, raising their weapons high and shouting with unrestrained passion.
“Idiots, the lot of them,” came a soft, melodious voice from the shadows. The voice was so faint amidst the uproar that no one noticed it.
“Heh, I’m just too lazy to deal with them,” Yaeger murmured. She had, in fact, not left the wasteland at all. “Now that I think about it, the system announcements have been really slow lately,” she remarked idly.
Yaeger lingered in the wasteland, waiting for the system to distribute her rewards for slaying the [Giant Scorching Ape]. “Hey, Sister System, been busy lately?” she asked softly, gazing at the twilight sky.
As expected, no reply came.
But then, at that moment, the system announcement finally chimed. This time, however, the announcement wasn’t just for Yaeger—it echoed across the entire region.
Ding! The [Giant Scorching Ape] has been slain by the player, [Princess].
Rewards include: 1x lucky lottery ticket, 1x Epic Random Equipment Crate, 99x High-Grade Health Recovery Potions, and 99x High-Grade Mana Recovery Potions.
