Chapter 74: The Prisoner (2)
Chapter 74: The Prisoner (2)
Albert gulped as he looked at the golden haired kid beside him. Although he wasn't that tall, there was a huge difference from when he first saw him. He was just as small as his daughter when he was first locked up here, but now, his and the prisoner's difference in height was not bigger than 2 ft.
So, Albert was sure, this is the special prisoner. The traces of sugar pops on his mouth also proved it.
But that wasn't important right now, Albert once again looked at the knife that was pointed at his throat. Just a few inches, and it would have pierced his neck. If it wasn't for the prisoner, then he would have already surely died.
But how? How can the prisoner easily catch a knife with his finger? No, that was not even what's ridiculous, how was he even here? He was supposed to be in the cellar pit completely locked up and chained!
Albert's racing thoughts were interrupted by the female elf's sudden movement.
"Shit!"
That was right, this wasn't the time for useless thoughts! Albert quickly stepped back as he waited for the female elf's attack so he could counter.
But it did not happen. Instead,
"Oh, great spirit! I am Ilrina of the Folim tribe. Please forgive us for not freeing you earlier!"
The female elf that calls herself Ilrina suddenly kneeled on the ground as she looked at the prisoner, her eyes shining as it was filled with much respect and admiration.
This action bewildered Albert. Great spirit? Could she be talking about the prisoner?
If she was, is the prisoner planning to escape!? Albert quickly turned his attention towards the prisoner, if he really was trying to escape, then it was Albert's job not to let that happen, no matter how attached he thought he was to him.
The prisoner the glanced at Albert, which made him flinch.
What is he planning!? Albert's mind raced.
And then, Viel started to walk.
Albert instinctively blocked his path, but he almost broke his ankle as Viel maneuvered to the side and then walked back towards the cell pit.
"G-great spirit?"
Ilrina remained kneeling as she was in utter disbelief. She was here to rescue the great spirit, so then why was his greatness returning to his confinement!?
The prisoner then looked back towards her and Albert, which made her excited. But her excitement quickly died down as the prisoner jumped down to the pit, without even a single expression on his face.
Once again, Ilrina was in utter disbelief, so much that she was about to blank out. And although Albert was also confused about the weird turn of events, he was the first one to shake off the daze.
He kicked the knife she was holding and proceeded to put her into an armlock.
"R-release me, dirty human!"
The female elf struggled, but Albert's bigger physique made it harder for her to even try to lift herself from the ground.
It was then that several footsteps could be heard arriving from afar, it would seem that the reinforcements that Albert called has finally arrived. What took them so long? Albert scoffed.
Hearing this, Ilrina started to panic as she summoned a fireball on her right hand, which was currently being pinned down by Albert's knee. She wanted to hit Albert, but due to her lack of control, the fireball spewed straight towards one of the cells, hitting its lock.
Blue smoke then rose from the lock.
"Shit! What did you do!?"
Albert released the female elf, placing his focus towards the gate that was hit. Even though Ilrina was somewhat curious, she took this chance to run away. She just hoped that it wasn't too late and she can still slipped pass by the other guards.
Albert gritted his teeth as he watched the female elf disappear into the dark hall.
What kind of luck was this? Thought Albert. To hit the locking spell that was imbued on the lock, what was that if not some bullshit luck?
An ominous sound of metal creaking reverberated in the hall as the cell's gate slowly opened. Albert was frozen in spot as he felt a killing intent, like his neck was going to get sliced at anytime.
And then, skinny, but gigantic man walked out of the cell, slightly leaning so as to not hit the ceiling. He was so skinny that it was as if one can see through his bones.
The gigantic prisoner's physique made Albert shiver in his toes. He could not move, even as the gigantic prisoner picked up the knife that he kicked away from the female elf.
His breathing became ragged as the gigantic man slowly approached him. Why? Why could he not move!? Albert thought.
Albert gulped, he looked up at the gigantic prisoner's face as it stood right in front of him.
The gigantic prisoner then smiled. His smile was so wide that his lips almost touched his ear. The gigantic prisoner then slowly raised the knife he was holding.
"Go back to your cell, mister"
It was then that a small and quiet voice echoed through the hall. The pressure that Albert felt quickly disappeared as soon as echo stopped, allowing him to breathe normally again.
Who was that? Albert initially thought. But there was only one person here that could have a voice with a pitch like that.
The special prisoner.
If it was then this is the first time he was hearing his voice.
But this was not the time to be celebrate, Albert quickly backed away as he looked at the gigantic prisoner, only to see him shivering.
Albert could not help but flinch as he the gigantic prisoner started to move. But to Albert's surprise, the trembling gigantic prisoner went back to his cell, dropping the knife along the way.
The gigantic prisoner then closed the gate to his cell and twisted the lock, making sure it was barred tight.
And it wasn't only the gigantic prisoner. All the prisoners of the inner cells, who were usually all timid and quiet, were now shivering, as evident by the sound of chains jingling in the air.
"What the hell is happening?", Albert almost pulled his hair in confusion.
"Albert, are you alright!?"
Finally, the reinforcements arrived.
How long was this stupid hallway for them to only arrive now!? Albert scoffed.
"We caught an elf trying to escape on the stairs!", a guard quickly ran towards Albert to see how he was, but he could not help but stop on his tracks as he saw the scene in front of him.
"What in the world happened here, Albert!?"
Albert could not help but look towards where the guard was staring.
A thick metal sheet was embedded on the ceiling, tightly planted.
This
Wasn't this the hatch to the special prisoner's cell pit?
"You know what
I have no idea", said Albert as he continued to stare at the steel hatch.
Later that night, the Lord had heard what happened and asked for Albert to report the full incident.
"I see. For a beast to infiltrate the castle, it would seem that our security has become lax", Lord Fynn clicked his tongue in frustration.
"You seem quite capable Albert, was it?"
"Y-yes, M'lord", Albert could not help but reveal a relieved expression. For the lord of the castle to acknowledge him, this was a very big deal.
"Good work. I will let Mr. Walter hand you a bag of silver equivalent to a gold coin's worth for your merit"
What!? A gold coin's worth!? Albert almost fainted as soon as he heard it. Really? A gold coin!?
Albert wanted to pinch himself, but he was afraid that doing so might offend Lord Fynn. A single gold coin was enough to keep his family splurge in luxury for a full year!
"T-thank you, M'lord! Thank you!", Albert groveled on the ground as he thanked Lord Flynn. Almost kissing his shoe in the process, but Lord Flynn dodged.
"Enough, peasant. You should rest. You have an early day tomorrow"
Albert could not help but be move, he heard of the Lord's haughty attitude, but now he knew that there was kindness in him.
"T-thank y-"
"You will be the one to prepare and present Viel to the Princess, after all"
"M'lord?"
"Mr. Walter will give you the details", Lord Fynn said as he sat back to his desk, "Go! You're ruining the air in my room!"
"Y-yes, M'lord!"
""
Albert was now outside of the castle, holding a generous sized bag of silver. In front of him was the castle's head butler, Mr. Walter.
"Two maids will be assisting you tomorrow. We have already placed someone else for your watch tomorrow, so you don't have to worry about that"
Mr. Walter started to discuss what Albert was going to do. But Albert was still stunned with everything that has happened.
"You are to bathe the special prisoner, with the help of the two maids, of course. The Lord has already prepared clothing for the special prisoner, so you do not have to worry about that"
Mr. Walter continued to talk, but the only thing Albert wanted to do was ask why.
This would be a bit awkward, Albert thought. He just told the special prisoner that they would probably never meet again after today, but now he was going to be the one to prepare him for tomorrow.
"maids will do everything, so your job is to just make sure the special prisoner does not run amok", Mr. Walter's expression then turned serious, "Consider that bag of silver as your payment for tomorrow. So, do your best or the Lord might change his mind and get it back from you"
As soon as Albert heard that, he immediately woke up from his stupor.
"N-no problem, Walter. I'll be here before dawn"
After that, Albert carefully walked home, making sure no one notices the bag of silver he was holding. He quickly showed the bag of silver to his wife as soon as he got home.
And they sure did celebrate that night.
And finally, tomorrow came.
