Chapter 11 - 11: Devour a Dragon
Chapter 11: Devour a Dragon
[All 13 skeletons now have access to the System's Inventory]
"You all will collect any dropped items and place them in the inventory," I directed the remaining five E-rank skeletons, demonstrating the process once.
They moved out, initiating a one-sided killing and looting spree in the novice dungeon.
Outside the dungeon
In the school, many teachers engaged in discussions.
"Sir, what are your thoughts on the final prize?" inquired the homeroom teacher, curiosity piqued.
"I've decided to invite an S-rank player to mentor the top performer," replied the principal calmly, asking, "Who do you think will come out on top?"
"I believe Sam has the highest chance, considering he already has an E-rank skeleton," the homeroom teacher suggested after contemplating.
"Ah, then I'll await the outcome," the principal remarked before heading to his office.
Inside the novice dungeon, monsters and students alike were in an uproar.
Two students had been battling a G+ and F- rank monster when a skeleton suddenly materialized out of thin air.
"Skeleton!" they exclaimed in fear, watching as it easily dispatched G+ and F- rank monsters.
"Will it attack us too?" one student whispered to the other.
"No, it seems to be heading elsewhere," the other student observed, a glimmer of hope in their eyes.
As the skeleton disappeared from their sight, both students collapsed to the ground, relieved that they were spared.
A bright light suddenly sparked in one student's memory, and he asked his friend, "Don't you think we've seen that skeleton before?"
"Now that you mention it, it does seem familiar. It's Sam's skeleton," the other student grumbled resentfully.
Unbeknownst to them, similar incidents were unfolding with other students throughout the dungeon.
This commotion persisted for around 6 hours.
All 13 skeletons gathered in one place, while the troublesome students lay in exhausted peace.
"It's finally over. That escalated quickly," I remarked as I stood up and suddenly exclaimed, "My mind has gone numb after listening to the World System's prompts for around 6 hours."
[World System]
[You have slain 200 G and 100 F-rank monsters]
[Resulting loot: 200 F-grade stat crystals and 2500 gold coins.]
[Note: G-rank monsters only drop 10 gold coins]
I checked the ranking list and found myself in first place with a significant lead.
"First place, huh?" I chuckled.
I then inspected my inventory and noticed an increase in the quantity of stat crystals and gold coins.
[Supreme Exchange System]
Inventory: [460 F-grade stat crystals, 4 E-grade stat crystals, and 3165 gold coins]
Satisfied with my haul, I whispered, "Preserve," and all the skeletons returned to the Undead Space.
"Let's exit," I said, leaving the novice dungeon.
In the School.
Near the novice dungeon exit, students were reporting to the homeroom teacher one by one.
"Oh, Sam's skeleton swiped your monsters," the homeroom teacher commented.
As they conversed, the entrance to the novice dungeon lit up, and I emerged.
"Sir, Sam has emerged from the dungeon."
"Quiet, everyone," the homeroom teacher instructed, moving toward me.
"Sam, I heard that your skeleton took their monsters," the homeroom the teacher said, inquiring about the incident.
"Sir, there were no rules against it. I have followed all the rules," I sneered at the complaining students.
"Did you all hear that? No rules were violated; only strength matters in the dungeon. Those who complained will be penalized," the homeroom teacher reprimanded the students sternly.
Shamed, they bowed their heads, but the homeroom teacher insisted, "Run five laps around the school."
"All students exiting the dungeon, follow the 'Material teacher'," the homeroom teacher directed.
[Material teacher: A teacher who allocates resources among students]
All students lined up obediently.
"As you all know, today we will distribute the 'Absorption Technique,' which aids in absorbing stat crystals," the material teacher announced, a tradition upheld for centuries.
It was now my turn.
"Sam."
"Yes, sir," I replied, accepting the absorption technique and stepping out of line.
"Appraise," I murmured.
[World System]
[Appraisal skill evaluating the technique]
Dragon Absorption Technique [F]
Absorbs same-grade stat crystals by 10%.
Grade: F
I was mentally prepared for the absorption technique to be inferior, but I hadn't anticipated it to be this lacking.
"Anyone wishing to enhance their stat attributes will need to absorb 10 corresponding stat crystals to increase 1 corresponding stat point," I pitied them, finally understanding the demand for stat crystals.
After the school events concluded, I returned home at 6:00 p.m.
Tonight, I decided it was time to name my undead skeletons.
But first, a refreshing shower.
Post-shower, I headed to the dining hall.
The table was laden with food, and I savored my meal, feeling content.
Back in my room, I summoned all 13 undead skeletons.
It was time to give them names.
I decided to begin with the D rank skeleton and had an idea.
Why not use undead energy instead of mana to name them?
Excitedly, I asked Neo, "Can I use undead energy instead of mana for naming?"
Neo responded, "Yes, you can, but there are more disadvantages than advantages. Mana is the basic energy in this world, while undead energy is not."
I understood his explanation, though not completely. Nonetheless, I chose to proceed with naming them. As I approached the D rank skeleton, I was about to give it a name when a prompt appeared in my mind.
[Host]
[Your current mana points are too low to name a higher rank monster than itself.]
[You could seriously harm or even kill yourself in the worst-case scenario.]
I was paralyzed upon hearing Neo's prompt. I quickly regained my composure and asked, "Is there a solution?"
Neo replied, "[Host, why not maximize your intelligence and spirit before naming?]"
"Okay," I replied, my excitement for naming the skeletons fading away.
I felt a sense of sadness and thought, "Why not devour a dragon as well?"
[Ding…]
[You can do that in the future.]
