Chapter 145 Were-Race
[Were-Tiger Claire Orion] – [12,000 Arcanium]
'Should I buy her?'
That was one of the many questions flashing through his mind for the last few minutes.
While searching through the Slave Shop's 'goods', Liam found a few interesting names. There were a bunch of fallen nobles, and descendants of well-known clans that seemed to have been enslaved. Their names were like brands, increasing their value from the get-go.
Orion was a similar name. Not many knew about the Orion Tribe of the Were-Tigers, but Liam was one of them. He only knew about them because of his older brother's constant nagging and childish complaints when he had tortured Liam.
Being tortured was already a nuisance, and painful - obviously - but Liam could swear that his brother's nagging had been the worst of it all.
[It has already been over a century, but these half-monster bastards are still as annoying as ever. How dare they interfere in my Monarchical Ceremony?!]
[They should have all dropped dead when I ordered them. Maybe I inspected too much intelligence from those wild monsters. They may look human-like but they're just wild animals. It's truly a pity that such a race is blessed with a great physique and unique Soultraits. If it were any other race, they would become true powerhouses and worthy of my attention.
[Were-Bears, Werewolves, and Were-Tiger are the worst bastards. I clearly recall the days as the captain of the Empyrean Legion. These bastards learned to brew potions and forge weapons and armor. If not for my overwhelming power, they would have been able to face the Empyrean Legion head-on. Of course, with my power nobody is strong enough to fight me!]
[Even after a century, these half-monster bastards didn't leave the Forest of Lacar. They're now hiding after I eradicated most of their tribes with my tremendous strength and unfathomable wits. Only those bastards of the Orion Clan and their subsidiary clans were able to escape my clutches. They're the most annoying, even able to withstand my deadly attacks once or twice. Maybe, I should have pursued them a little longer, but they were not as interesting as you, little brother~!]
Liam was not exactly sure why his brother was always bragging to him while making it sound as if he was complaining about something, but it was really hateful. His older brother was way too talkative while holding blood-smeared tongs in his hand.
The tongs had been used to remove Liam's finger- and toenails before his fingers were slowly broken before they were finally cut off. His brother had the ability to restore the bodies of those he harmed lethally. Thus, their mother usually used him as the torture master. That was not only a stupid title but also one of the most feared titles in the entire Devilian Empire.
Liam understood that best. He knew that his brother was using the worst methods to inflict the most pain on his victims over a very long period. At the same time, he talked like a waterfall, seemingly without a break.
Liam probably forgot most of the things his older brother told him by now, but that was only obvious. He had been too focused on the pain he had to go through with a missing ear, foot, fingers, hand, and so on.
It was certainly not funny to listen to his brother's bragging while he cut off one of your fingers…definitely no fun!
Fortunately, Liam recalled his older brother's comment about the Orion Tribe. That was why he understood how Clair Orion's price came into being.
'No Arcane Circle, 18 years old, and clearly malnourished according to her height and weight. According to the picture, she seems to be a beautiful woman, but that picture is probably really old. Their weight is definitely not the same. Did she starve herself to make sure nobody will violate her, or even purchase her, to begin with?'
Liam didn't want to waste 12,000 Arcanium on a useless, dying Slave. If he purchased a Slave, it was better if that Slave had a trace of hope left. He was not too sure what happened to the Orion tribe but given that the shop demanded 12,000 Arcanium - and the Arcane System didn't consider this 'overpriced' - Liam figured that there could only be a few reasons.
'Being one of the most expensive slaves in the shop and ranked higher than some fallen noble households who're known for their powerful Soultraits and bloodline, Claire Orion should have a powerful Soultrait as well. Mayner, her Bloodline awoke as well. She should be a descendant of the Orion tribe's main family, maybe even the daughter of their Leader.
If her tribe is destroyed, she will have nowhere to go even if I offer her freedom… She might not even have the will to stay alive and kill herself the moment I don't pay enough attention to her…'
Diverting his gaze from the holographic screen for a while, Liam took a glance at the batch of heavily sweating Natives.
The amount of Arcane Power they could control at once was not too much. It was barely enough to cool their body to survive consuming the Kikal Tonic.
'They will be in a weakened state for a week, or even longer. Probably two weeks if they rely on natural recovery. By then, I should be fully recovered as well, and my Arcane Power should be stronger as well.'
Two weeks were a long time, but it was barely enough for Liam to recover. He might look fine on the outside, and he was able to think properly without too many daggers stabbing into his brain, but every cell of his body had faced a never seen before threat. The toll he took from consuming the Blood Yokai el Rey Serum was not something he could take lightly.
All of his stats increased drastically in the process, but it was not as if his body could endure such a drastic change easily.
If not for his Vitality stat at the S rank from the get-go he would have never consumed the serum in the first place. Thinking about that, he smiled a bit.
However, it was not too bad that his body had taken a toll from consuming the serum. It was actually an opportunity to train his Arcane Power. During the recovery period, the body would devour Arcane Power like a Glutton. This was a means to increase the natural recovery rate of the body, and it was a phenomenon that could be exploited rather easily.
Training his Arcane Power while consuming it naturally like a born Glutton should help him to increase his Arcane Power quite a bit.
Liam was not too sure if it was enough to bring it up to the S- Rank, but he knew that it would bring him a step closer. That was more than enough for him.
But then again, Liam didn't really want to waste two full weeks doing nothing but consuming Arcane Power. Considering that he was already spending most of his Arcane Power, and Arcanium, he should do something that would allow him to increase his fortune in the following two weeks of recovery.
Thus, Claire Orion seemed to be the best option.
She should be a blacksmith or an Artisan of some sort. Even if she wasn't an Artisan and he made a 'mistake' by purchasing her, Were-Tigers were born Warriors. Their instincts were eerily precise, and their body was flexible yet powerful. They may not be the most intelligent Were-race in the Nine Realms but it was not as if Liam wanted to find a strategist, in the first place.
With that in mind, he decided to take the gamble and purchase the Were-Tiger. He was already overthinking his decision, and he knew that he would regret thinking about it too much.
'Either she is extremely valuable and will become a useful asset, or she will try to kill herself because she has nothing left to lose. If it's the latter, I can just put on more restrictions on her and tell her that she can kill herself once she earned enough Arcanium to make up for my investment. Consider it the price of death.'
[1x『Slave(Claire Orion)』has been purchased. 12,000 Arcanium have been transferred to the Dark Slave Shop!]
[The transaction has been completed, and the Arcane System will commence the transportation of the good according to the agreement of the 10 Great Realms. Please select a secure place to commence the teleportation!]
Liam expected the notifications to appear so he returned to the attic. The natives would be fine without him now that he had released enough Arcane Power.
With his focus on the semi-transparent magic circle that manifested in front of him, Liam finished selecting the destination of the teleportation.
For a second or two nothing happened, only for a dazzling golden light to encompass the entire attic all of a sudden.
In the next few seconds, Liam backed off a little as a reeking stench flooded his nostrils.
He stopped moving only after the dazzling light disappeared, unveiling a slightly astonishing sight in front of him.
A malnourished tiger with silver fur - or what was supposed to be silver fur - had appeared in front of him.
It was Claire Orion, just that she didn't seem to be a Were-Tiger but a full-fledged tiger instead.
'Transformation? A Teraph? Well…this is crazy.'
Liam found a treasure trove!
If she was not suicidal that is!
