Chapter 8 - First Kill
Leon tossed the screwdriver at Layla and said, "Here."
Layla looked at the screwdriver with a confused look on her face and asked, "What do I do with this?"
"Give it to me; I will show you."
Layla handed the screwdriver to Leon and muttered, "Why would you give it to me then."
Leon walked to Ryan and looked at Layla: "Watch closely."
He raised his hand and stabbed the screwdriver in Ryan's eye but made sure not to penetrate it too deep into his brain so he wouldn't die.
He looked at Layla, who was looking back at him with an excited look on her face.
"Do you want to try it?" he asked.
Layla nodded in response and took the screwdriver from Leon's hand.
Layla raised her hand to stab Ryan's eyes, but she stopped and looked at Leon: "Can you grab his head? He keeps moving."
Leon grabbed Ryan's head, and Layla stabbed the screwdriver into Ryan's eye.
"Nice. Now let's finish this." Leon went to the other side of the room to check the available chemicals.
"No acid available," he muttered as he inspected the chemicals.
Then, he found the barrels filled with kerosene and smiled: "That would work."
He took a big funnel and plunged it into Ryan's toothless and tongueless mouth. After that, he poured the kerosene into the funnel and filled Ryan's stomach with it. He didn't stop until Ryan's stomach started bulging and the kerosene started leaking from his nose.
Leon turned to Layla and said, "Bring a lighter or something."
Layla searched in the room, but she couldn't find anything that could burn.
There was no kitchen in the apartment, and Ryan always ate junk food.
"I can't find anything," Layla informed.
SIGH!
Leon threw the barrel on the ground and went to look for the flammable chemicals.
Upon having a closer look at the chemicals, Leon found out that most of the boxes were empty.
He glanced around the boxes, and his gaze stopped on potassium permanganate.
"Good. Now I just need some… got it."
He grabbed the bottle of glycerin and dashed to Ryan. He placed a paper on the funnel and sprinkled potassium permanganate on the paper.
"What are you doing?" Layla asked with a curious look on her face.
"Take the barrels and spray it all over the apartment," Leon ordered.
Layla shrugged her shoulders and did as Leon asked her to do. Meanwhile, Leon hung the bottle of glycerin on the ceiling, right above the funnel, and called Layla.
"Let's go," he said.
"Aren't we going to kill him?" Layla wondered.
"We are, but with a bang."
Leon grabbed two more barrels and kicked them in the lobby of the apartment after puncturing them.
The barreled rolled down the lobby and the stairs of the two-story apartment building.
After that, he tied the rope of the glycerin bottle with the doorknob and left the apartment with Layla with another barrel of kerosene in his hand.
He slowly closed the apartment door and coated it with kerosene. Then, he knocked on the neighbors' door and ran away with Layla.
After running for some distance, they stopped and looked at the apartment building.
When Leon knocked on the neighbors' door, they came out to check, but as they all came out at the same time, none of them knew who knocked on their doors.
"What is this smell?" one neighbor asked the other neighbors.
"Look at the floor. It's kerosene," another neighbor stated.
"Only Ryan has kerosene in his apartment. What is he doing wasting all this…" the man stopped and glanced around, "Where is he, anyway? He said we are going to rob the neighborhood after killing his two pets, but he hasn't contacted me after that."
"Same."
"Let's check up on him. Or maybe he passed out after drinking too much and made all this mess."
They knocked on Ryan's door, but no one answered it, obviously.
"I think he passed out."
One man kicked the door and opened it. As soon as the door opened, the glycerin spilled on the paper filled with potassium permanganate, and it started smoking.
The neighbors walked into the apartment and saw Ryan in a horrible state.
BOOM! BANG!
One spark was enough to blow up the entire apartment building.
Leon and Layla watched as the night sky was filled with fireworks.
"I thought it would be a bigger blast," Leon muttered.
Suddenly, a metal rod came flying from the scene and pierced into Layla's chest or so would have happened if Leon hadn't caught it at the right time.
"Are you okay?" Leon asked with a concerned look on his face.
Layla nodded and hugged Leon. He moved his hands to hug her back but stopped halfway and pushed her away.
"Let's go. We are not safe out here," he asserted in a solemn voice.
It was the first purge night.
