Seoul Object Story

Chapter 153: The Burning Drug: Epilogue (3)

In the ruins of a city where the heat from the huge still lingered and the smoke still could be seen here and there, the streets where many people once walked were charred and collapsed, leaving only traces of their former appearance.

The buildings that once towered high, almost touching the sky, now bowed their heads, revealing only their skeletons between the collapsed walls and broken windows.

The streets where many people had walked, the roads where countless vehicles passed, and the buildings that provided shelter to countless people were all empty and silent. All the people had been transferred to other places, as the city was designated as a dangerous area where ghostly Objects could appear.

In the midst of these ruins, researchers from various research institutes, led by James, slowly entered the ruins, wrapped in protective suits all over their bodies. Of course, they did not enter this dangerous area for no reason. The first reason was that the research institutes had received a request for research cooperation.

Since it could be an accident related to the Gray Reaper, they probably hoped that the ‘James Research Institute’, which knew the Gray Reaper the best, would help.

The second reason was that the government had requested for their cooperation. It was a request to help search for missing Drug Enforcement Agency personnel.

[ Drone Units 1 to 80 are cleared. No ghostly Objects have been found inside the ruins so far. ]

Among James’ group, radio transmission from the soldiers who were piloting the drones was heard.

[ Then, each of you should disperse and start working! ]

As James gave an order into the radio, the researchers began to disperse in all directions, holding detectors and such. What the researchers were holding in their hands was a detector needed to investigate the Object drug.

While the researchers were dispersing, the soldiers began to move busily to set up tents to be used as a temporary base.

[ Overall, the mental contamination level is high. There is definitely something in the ruins. ]

James frowned as he looked at the mental contamination level detected by his measuring equipment. It must mean that the Object drug was buried somewhere in these ruins.

James expected that the collapse of the spirit barrier and the Object drug incident were related. In order to find out the truth, it would be necessary to find the missing personnel of the DEA.

If possible, it would be best to find the DEA team leader.

He had to find the team leader who had disappeared after reporting that one of his agents was mentally contaminated and hiding a gunshot wound.

Few researchers approached James, who was organizing some data while sitting in a makeshift tent. They were researchers who had been assigned to a separate mission by James.

[ James, I had taken a picture. The vortex really disappeared. ]

The data they sent was a picture of an empty lot. It was a picture full of circular traces of the ground being dug up, and it was full of the footprints of a giant pig and traces of destruction.

It was a picture of a place where a twisted vortex on the ground had been, a place where satellite observation was impossible due to spatial distortion.

[ I thought this would be the result when the spatial distortion disappeared, but it really did disappear. Just what the hell happened? ]

James muttered to himself in a low voice, then spoke to the researchers who filmed the empty space where the vortex once stood.

[ We might find more clues there, so make sure to preserve and seal the scene. ]

After hearing that, the researchers gave a small greeting and returned to their positions.

*********As we entered the door of James’ private plane, a unique atmosphere greeted us. It was a  luxurious and comfortable atmosphere.

However, Reaper walked into the plane as if it didn’t matter.

Soft lighting cast a soft glow on the hallway, and unlike regular planes, the spacious space gave off a comfortable atmosphere. The well-decorated hallway was also finished with glossy wood, and the sensation I got from touching it was incredibly smooth and soft.

When I arrived at the space where Reaper and I would be staying, there were large, soft seats lined up in a way that seemed to be arranged to make whoever sat there able to have a good conversation with their partner.

As soon as Reaper found the seats, it walked awkwardly and hopped over before laying down on the large sofa and took out a pudding and scooped it into its mouth.

The Reaper who was wearing a Hungry Ghost outfit and hopped around was so cute!

While Reaper was eating the pudding, I opened the closet located beyond the seating area and smiled happily. The closet was full of the clothes I had asked James to get. There was so many kinds of children’s clothes for Reaper!

Reaper was wearing clothes obediently now, but I needed to get it to try other things soon because I didn’t know when it would stop cooperating.

I had a feeling that I shouldn’t wait until we arrived in Seoul!

The fact that Reaper wouldn’t take off the Hungry Ghost clothes made me even more anxious. There must be a reason why Reaper, who was synonymous with being self-indulgent, was putting on his clothes so well.

“Reaper!”

When I called Reaper with a big smile, it looked up at me with a slightly nervous expression.

Ta-da!-!

I took out a children’s dress from the closet and showed it to it, making Reaper shake its head violently with a terrified expression.

Shake-! Shake-!

I could feel its strong determination to never wear it from how it shook its head.

Tsk, it seemed like the effect of me fainting has somewhat weakened.

I should have passed out for longer! Why did I wake up so quickly?

If it weren’t for Reaper smiling brightly in my dream and waving for me to come back quickly, I wouldn’t have woken up so easily…

Surely the Reaper didn’t come into my dream and wake me up, right?

Just like that, the persuasion continued for a long time.

I stimulated Reaper’s psychological sense of guilt by adding some pleading. Normally, it would never work, but since I had fainted from one of Reaper’s pranks, it seemed like it would work.

“Then, I’ll take out three clothes. Wear one of them. Okay?”

Reaper, who had been furrowing its brows, thought deeply and then slowly approached me with a reluctant expression.

It’s a success!

If I listed similar clothes as options, Reaper would definitely be upset, so I picked out clothes that were moderately diverse but still cute and held them up.

The first one was a pink children’s dress with lots of frills.

However, Reaper walked past it without even looking at it.

Sob-!

The second one was a gothic children’s dress with a combination of black and white.

Reaper thought deeply while looking at it before passing by.

The third one was a kindergarten uniform that suited the Reaper’s height.

After seeing that, Reaper started to slowly look at the clothes again from the beginning. Although it seemed like it didn’t like any of them, it eventually chose one.

However, the choice it made was really unexpected.

Before long, I dressed the Reaper, who was standing still in despair, and adjusted its posture and even gave him a hug.

Just like that, the perfectly cute Reaper was completed!

As I took a bunch of pictures of the Reaper with my phone, I thought to myself. The probability of it choosing the third one should be the lowest, but it still chose the third one. It seemed like it simply chose something with less fabric.

Did you hate fabric that much?

Even though a thought from the researcher part of me appeared and deduced that it might be related to its abilities or characteristics, it quickly disappeared into oblivion due to the Reaper’s cute appearance.

I was so happy because I could get two pictures of the Reaper wearing clothes!

One is a photo of it wearing a Hungry Ghost costume while the other one was a photo of Reaper wearing a kindergarten uniform.

It was a great result of the trip to the US.

Just like that, I was able to have a happy time on the plane that was taking me back to Korea from my trip to the US.

*********A researcher from the James Research Institute was walking around with measuring equipment to create a distribution map of mental contamination levels.

The distribution map showing where the mental contamination level gradually faded while it was centred around the place where a certain church building used to be was almost complete.

In the meantime, there was an area where the level was particularly high, so he slowly approached that area while recording the levels.

[ This is Block D 7. A different level than expected was observed. ]

Just what was the reason, I wonder?

Was there an Object hiding in this desolate ruin?

The researcher’s steps became increasingly slower as he felt afraid.

Beep-! Beep-! beep-!

As he used the measuring device that made sounds at irregular intervals as a guide, he finally saw a large rock awkwardly placed in the middle of the collapsed building.

Is that rock the cause?

Just what is that rock?

[ I found a suspicious rock. I will investigate now. ]

After reporting the unusual situation according to procedure, the man slowly pushed the rock, trusting in the performance of the protective suit.

Then, something popped out with a ‘Ta-da!’.

It was a Golden Reaper who was smiling bashfully as if he was embarrassed because it had been caught.

What the… it was just a ‘Golden Reaper’.

He was relieved that it wasn’t a vicious object, but he still felt uneasy.

Did Golden Reaper have such a high mental contamination level?

A delicious scent wafted through the protective suit at that moment. It was the scent of the Golden Reaper, which resembled the smell of the sun.

Well, the Golden Reaper was kind, so it shouldn’t be a big deal.

At that moment, a strong electric current flowed from the protective suit, making the researcher faint.

In his darkening vision, the Golden Reaper approached him with a worried expression.

‘It’s okay. I just fainted because my mind was polluted, so don’t worry.’

The researcher tried to reassure the Golden Reaper with a smile, but no sound came out of his mouth, which was paralzyed by the electricity. Then, the man lost his consciousness.

*********The Black Reaper and the Golden Reaper held each other’s hands and laughed happily on the pitch-black ground. They were having fun even though they were just jumping around. They jumped and ran around, they even rolled around on the slippery ground.

The Golden Reaper, who was lying on the ground laughing, suddenly had a thought. It would be more fun if they went out and played with everyone!

So, it decided that it was time to take the new youngest outside and introduce it to everyone. The Golden Reaper held the Black Reaper’s hand tightly and walked out of the black sphere.

However, the Black Reaper stopped walking just in front of the boundary of the black sphere.

Shake-! Shake-!

The Black Reaper shook its head with a sad expression.

The Golden Reaper tilted its head after seeing its action, not understanding the Black Reaper’s refusal to leave.

If it doesn’t want to go, what can it do?

The Golden Reaper, who had come to that conclusion, shook its hand in the air vigorously.

I’ll come back next time!

Then, the Golden Reaper jumped over the boundary.

The Black Reaper, left alone in the dark space, erased the faint smile that remained in its lips and walked somewhere.

It was fun.

The Black Reaper thought.

It was really fun.

It then leaned on the large body of its mother and conveyed its will.

It was fun.

However, his will was not conveyed. It bounced off and scattered into the air.

So, Mom, please wake up too…

It believed that since it was alive, its mother would wake up too.

It repeated the words over and over again as it blew the firewood that the Golden Reaper had given it onto its mother.

It continued to do so while shedding tears.

It continued until it used up too much firewood and collapsed, unable to maintain its form.
