Chapter 323 - No Disguise
If Evelyn was unsuitable for it, Klautz had planned to leave her behind as he embarked on this mission all on his own.
'If only all of them were like this…' Klautz sighed.
But it was a light one which disappeared in the brink of a moment as he reverted back to normal. There was a lot of work to be done!
Klautz was aware that not all of the groups would be as easy as this one. Consider the Yukiho group for example. It was the one he had himself trained. The task of collection was assigned to a small group of dedicated men with another group of men assigned with guarding them. This indeed severely restricted manpower but it was much more safer.
Klautz had reason to believe that many of the groups would employ similar measures. But that didn't change anything for him.
Klautz could only move forward.
"Do you see those sacs there?" Klautz claimed pointing amongst the group.
"That is where our treasure lies."
A bunch of sacs were piled onto one another. Klautz had to move them before any of them figured anything out. Their breach must be smooth and they must also leave without alarming anyone. After all, the Liqui wasn't the only target he had in mind.
"Help me teleport them with your power and I will cover for you."
Klautz could do it himself too. But it would simply be so much convenient and fast if it was to be done using her powers as well.
"B- But so much won't even fit in the inventory!"
Klautz nodded. It was pretty obvious it wouldn't. More than hundred men were hunting these dreadtaiurs all at the same time. It wouldn't be understatement to say that it won't fit in the small space provided in the inventory.
"I know. That is why I would be covering for you since you might catch attention. We will do it one at a time and you come back and forth moving the stuff. Fortunately the leader of the group doesn't recognize the faces of his group of hundreds of men. We can sneak in without getting noticed by anyone."
Having a small group like Yukiho's had its own perks. The security was much tighter and by this point.
Klautz had spent days after days training them all the while continuing his own.
By this point, Klautz had memorized all of their faces so much so that he wouldn't have to think twice to spot an intruder. But the Liqui group hardly had that luxury. Their hunting patterns were inefficient and the members hardly knew one another leading to lack in coordination.
Randomization wasn't for nothing. You had to work with complete strangers who you could never trust in the world of hell. This was indeed the greatest test for a commander which most of the second gen tend to fail.
Klautz took out his [Star Dagger]... the only ninja tool he had. But he wasn't out to kill anyone. He cut off his own arm as blood tickled from the wound.
"Klautz? Are you okay?"
Evelyn couldn't help but shoot out her eyes wide as she watched Klautz doing something insane.
'Is he planning to die on me now?'
Of course she didn't say it on face as she had seen too many absurd things by now such that something like this would be considered tame.
"Yeah"
Klautz nodded unconcerned with her questioning look.
Klautz lifted his arm over his face as the blood trickled down on his face, dying his face crimson. If one were to look from afar they might think that Klautz had injured his head in a battle causing a stream of blood.
"You wouldn't have much of a problem since no one knows you and you can easily sneak in. But the same isn't true for me."
"I don't wish to brag. And trust me it is really a pain in the ass. But I am quite popular. Spotting me here would be an instant giveaway. Not having any proper disguise methods available in the camp shops, this is the best I can pull off."
Klautz took out a piece of rag as he tied it on his forehead from where blood seemed to have started flowing. He grabbed onto the damp mud below and brushed it over onto his other cheek.
It was true that Klautz could erase his presence. But you never know what might happen on a high risk mission. Not to mention that there were the second gens as commanders as well.
It was better to be thoroughly prepared and thus Klautz had disguised himself as a soldier of the Liqui group. His clothes were in tatters, his face was bloody and he seemed to have been thrown around a lot in fights.
There was no uniform code in any of the groups so Klautz plain old clothing quite unfitting that of the acting general but fitting for that of a ninja couldn't have worked but perfect.
Nothing about it stood out as much compared to the other newbies who were currently fighting a deadtaur themselves. The only thing that might go wrong was his face which wasn't completely hidden despite the efforts.
But Klautz couldn't hide his face completely either as that would be seen as much more suspicious. It would be but an instant giveaway that he was but a robber.
"Here," Evenlyn handed over a wolf of hers as Klautz got up from hiding.
Taking hold of the little gift he sneaked in between the crowd. Everyone was busy with the hunt. The dreadtaur was the imminent threat upon them. Even a moment's indulgence could lead to their death. No one had noticed the little intruder that was now among them.
Under his cover, Evelyn began moving away from all of their hard work.
'This would take quite a while.'
