Chapter 77: Black Phoenix
Chapter 77: Black Phoenix
A dozen flaming projectile flew toward Sol but he didn't dodge or block them, he only stand there with a cool look.
The closer they get, the smaller they are, before it was a sword sized projectile but when it got to him it was only a finger-sized flame projectile.
They splash harmlessly against Sol's ice armor, no mark was left on it as they died out from the impact.
One of the projectiles suddenly turned up toward Sol's face, it was already to close that Sol could not dodge, "Fuck it!" He told himself as he didn't try to dodge if he moves he would look less impressive.
As the fire impact his face, he could sense it burn some skin and hair on his face, he secretly created a small dome of healing around his face.
By the time the fire went out, Sol was as good as new, no one noticed that the fire actually burn him, "Is this your best?" Sol taunted to give the image of power.
People from the other temples were watching the fight secretly, they had their eyes open wide as they had known the power of the flaming bird was anything but weak.
For those below Demigod, a slight touch with the flame could fatally injure them, a lot of heirs had died from a slight touch with it in their initial resistance to the Demigod.
Now a man suddenly appears out of nowhere and got hit by it like it was just a breeze of wind, in their eyes, it did not even burn him.
"Who is that man? Is he a God?" one of the passersby asked as he thought the only one who could suppress a demigod that badly must be a God.
"More like the Devil" another man rebuke him, "It's the infamous heir killer from our neighboring city, he was said to be the strongest man there but his morality is questionable"
"Ah! I have heard about him from my friend there, he has things for a female creature, maybe he is here to get the Flaming bird?" a woman cut in.
Sol's infamy was so great that even some people there recognize him, after his stunt, everyone started to find information about him which spread his infamy further.
Sol was about to counter-attack but he stumbles from his step because of their talk, he hurriedly continued his advance as he zooms toward the flaming bird while mumbling, "Can't they just appreciate my cool self rather than talking bad behind my back?"
When he was getting close, the firebird flew higher so he could not touch it, but so was not going to let it get away, he jumped toward it, every time he about to fall, he conjured an ice platform which he used as a stepping stone to jump higher.
It becomes a wild chase between Sol and the firebird, the bird would send projectiles of fire at him from time to time but it was not very effective as it could not pierce his armor.
On the other hand, he could not catch up with the flaming bird, it has superior mobility in the air, Sol was as fast as the bird but it would change direction every time Sol went for it which made him missed the bird.
Keep conjuring a stepping stone, Sol was getting tired as conjuring consume his stamina, the stamina is quite different than his body endurance its more toward his mental stamina.
The chase continued for a few more minutes until Sol got annoyed at the bird that keeps harassing him.
He conjured an ice crystal on his hand and threw it at the flaming bird, it dodges the projectile easily but Sol was not planning to hit it.
The ice crystal was only a meter away from the bird when it blooms and grew to be an ice cage, it tried to capture the firebird from all side but the bird was not going to stay still.
It tried to fly away but Sol pours even more power into the crystal, its growth becomes faster and barely catch the flaming bird, the cage caught the bird by biting on its waist.
It screeches in pain as its body come in contact with the ice cage, white mist start to hiss and burst from the point of contact.
The flame bird started to grow smaller as the ice was absorbing its heat, it tried to break away but the cage somehow holds to its intangible body.
Sol was getting closer when it screeches lauder and the fog coming from its body grew thicker, the bird itself somehow grew bigger with a darker shade of fire.
He arrived by its side and tried to cut at it with his ice knife but instead of the bird getting smaller, his knife melted from the fire.
The cage that holds its in place also melt within seconds, the temperature around them also grow hotter.
Sol instinctively channels more power toward his armor to keep it intact, in the end, the temperature around them settle around ten degrees hotter than normal.
"Do you think you can put out my eternal fire?" The firebird looks down on him as it grows bigger.
Sol looked at it with shock but he was not afraid as he could sense that it's still within his power range.
"This boost in power is not permanent and it must take a toll on it" Sol reasoned as the bird would have used the darker flame from the start if it comes for free.
The giant flame bird grows to three-meter tall and it swung its flaming wings forward which generates projectiles of dark fire that was twice the size of normal fire projectile.
Sol dived down to the ground to dodge the projectile as he didn't have time to act cool as he knew the fire could melt his ice easily.
His ice ability was the bane of fire ability but fire ability was also its bane if his power is stronger than the fire ability then the fire ability would be obsolete but if the fire ability was stronger than his ability then his ability would be obsolete as well.
"Fuck!" He cursed as he dodges projectiles after projectiles, the number was uncountable as the firebird could just make more every time.
Sol was contemplating whether he should his other ability to beat the flaming bird or not, in the end, he decided against using other abilities as the flaming bird is within his power level even if he only uses ice sun ability.
The fighting dynamic didn't change, one attacking while the other running away while harassing the attacking party but the difference was Sol become the weaker party that run around.
"Fuck!" Sol had been running around the temple of Minerva and another building near it was in shambles and some even got burned to the ground.
Luckily there was no casualty as people had evacuated the site, they were sensible enough to save their of life rather than keep watching the fight.
Projectiles of ice and fire keep flying toward each side, the flaming bird tried to get close with Sol but he would conjure an ice wall to block it every time.
The flame bird was getting even more aggressive as time went on, Sol recognize it too, "it is getting desperate, it's about to reach its limit soon"
Sol decide to conserve his energy and hold back, Sol had a bigger reserve of energy as he had three cores divinity but he spent it faster too.
He would dodge on the ground with his physical ability rather than conjuring ice left and right, it gave the bird some ground but it was never enough to hit him directly.
It grew desperate as it saw that her attack was not hitting him even though it had increased the number of projectiles near one hundred at a time.
Sol could easily dodge a hundred projectiles, his movement technique got way better with his recent advancement, it comes from his knife core as it also passively made him swifter.
"You ask for this!" the giant firebird screech at him.
The heat started to build up even further as the bird grew even bigger and the color of its flame started to get closer to black, it tucked its wing and hold it close to its body.
It suddenly turned into a black sun which radiates heat so strong that surrounding snow started to melt, I was only due to Sol's ice armor that the temperature didn't get higher.
The sun was black and it absorbs light from the surrounding that the sky grew darker, it was getting hotter while its size actually grew smaller like the black sun was compressing itself.
"Holly molly! It's going to suicide by exploding itself?" Sol looked in shock as he could sense the black sun was compressing itself into a breaking point, just a few more seconds it would explode.
