Chapter 9
"Demons?" Qiao Xi was surprised. "Isn't that Zhuo Yixuan's new show? That was a good move on Luo Zhan's part, pushing you straight into the lion's den."
"Who's Zhuo Yixuan?" asked An Yi.
Luo Xiu did not so much as to lift his eyes. Sloshing the wine glass held between his long and slender fingers, he said, "I don't know who that is."
Qiao Xi busted out laughing, "The princess of the Zhuo's. Not only was she a real beauty, she also brings with her a few hundred millions as dowry. She fell head over heel in love with Luo Xiu a few years ago when she was still going to school and had chased after him for a long time. Oh, Luo Xiu, is that too brutal to say that you don't even know who she is?"
The wine glass stopped twirling. The blood-red wine left mountain-like outlines on the wine glass.
Under the light.
Luo Xiu stopped searching through his memories and looked up languidly. His eyes cold, "Sorry. I don't recall."
There was not hint of apology in his nonchalant voice.
"Tsk. So cold." Leaning up against the table, QIao Xi teased. "Applying the most common way stories go, when you two meet again at the production team, it'd be you who'd fall in love with her and go down the path of wife-chasing crematory."
"?"
Somewhat understanding what that term meant, Luo Xiu's lips curved a little. He turned away and looked out of the window.
The gold chain reflected some light next to his lens. The light was cold and indifferent.
He didn't even bother rebutting or making fun of Qiao Xi's remark.
Qiao Xi digressed. "That being said. Zhuo Yixuan is a screenwriter. My blind date today is also a screenwriter. Are there many beauties in that field?"
An Yi, "Your blind date was very pretty?"
"Yeah. Sort of pale with pretty eyes and nose. She speaks in a particularly light voice and a kind of sultriness that I can't quite describe," said Qiao Xi casually. "Luo Xiu heard it too."
"She was quite interesting."
Qiao Xi nodded. "See? Even Luo Xiu said… so?"
Qiao Xi looked over at the man by the window, baffled. "Did I hear that right?"
"Mmhmm."
"You… complimented a woman?"
"It has nothing to do with her gender," said Luo Xiu as he looked back over nonchalantly. "She was funny."
Qiao Xi felt alerted. "You are not telling me that the very first time you have an earthly desire it is towards my blind date, are you?"
Luo Xiu paused for a little.
After a little while, he smiled lightly and turned back toward the window. "It definitely has nothing to do with desires."
Qiao Xi, "You sure you aren't coveting?"
"I never take what belongs to others."
Qiao Xi chuckled. "No, no. I trust you."
After the digression, Qiao Xi sudden recalled what they were talking about. "When are you heading out to your production team?"
"Next Monday."
"That's day after tomorrow. That rushed? I still need to go and visit my grandmother today. Why don't we do this? Let's get together at a club tomorrow night. The two of us will send you off properly."
An Yi rained on Qiao Xi's parade as soon as he finished talking. "Us Taoist priests are like monks. I can't consume alcohol."
Qiao Xi, "Are we not bros?"
An Yi, "I don't care even if you are my father."
Qiao Xi, "…Then Luo Xiu and I will drink alcohol and you can have fruit juice."
An Yi, "He will be joining our Taoist temple. He's not allowed to drink either."
Qiao Xi, "Get. Get. Get. I am uninviting you! I have never seen a Taoist priest that is as naggy as you!"
"……"
An Yi and Qiao Xi had always been like this. They liked to bicker with each other every time they got together. Luo Xiu never get involved when this happened. Not even if they were trying to bite each other's head off, literally.
Luckily, An Yi's temple had another 1,200 rules other than no alcohol consumption. It didn't take long before his master called him and summoned him back to the temple.
Qiao Xi was still mad. "No wonder the Taoist name given to him by his master was Chi Gua – steady and few words. Isn't the whole purpose of that for him to be a man of few words? He could really use some work on that!"
Not getting a respond, Qiao Xi looked over to the man by the window. After a few seconds of silence, he frowned and asked, "So, you've made up your mind already? You will be joining the temple after the bet is over?"
Luo Xiu looked back over at him. "Mmm."
"Why?"
Luo Xiu gave that a little bit of thought before he smiled casually. "Bored."
