Chapter 141: The Beast Tide [6]
Amid the raging battlefield, the tension between Chen Zin and Ming Yuelin escalated as their bickering escalated to a full-blown argument.
Spirit beasts continued to pour in from every direction, but the two women seemed more interested in their feud than the enemies at hand.
*sleesh* Chen Zin's fiery sword cleaved through the oncoming spirit beasts, her flame-infused strikes cutting them down in rapid strings.
Each swing of her blade sent bursts of fire into the air, igniting any beast that came too close.
At the same time, Ming Yuelin also shot her arrows trailing streams of Crimson Phoenix flames.
*woosh* *thoom* Her arrows blazed brightly, lighting up the sky as they tore through the hordes of spirit beasts.
The fiery explosions left charred remains, but it was clear she was distracted, her irritation with Chen Zin clouding her usual precise aim.
As another arrow almost hit her because of Ming Yuelin's clumsiness, Chen Zin's temper flared.
As she swiped her blade to kill a large spirit beast, she couldn't hold back any longer. "You really need to learn how to aim, cunt! Unless you're trying to kill me along with the beasts!"
Ming Yuelin, her irritation clear in her narrowed eyes, unleashed another arrow that exploded against a horde of beasts before turning her glare toward Chen Zin.
"Oh, don't be so dramatic, bitch! If I wanted to hit you, trust me, I wouldn't miss."
Chen Zin gave an exasperated huff, her sword crackling with flame as she obliterated another group of smaller beasts.
"You'd better hope you don't. Or the next thing on fire will be your pretty little bow."
Ming Yuelin let out a mocking laugh, twirling her bow in her hands before firing a rapid trail of arrows at the oncoming spirit beasts.
"Hah! Big talk coming from someone flailing about with a sword. Are you sure you're not just getting in the way of my arrows?"
Chen Zin spun on her heels, decapitating another beast with a swift slash, her temper bubbling up.
"Flailing? At least I'm actually fighting up close, not hiding in the distance, hoping to hit something!"
Just as she spoke, Ming Yuelin released an arrow that sizzled past Chen Zin's head once again, intentionally this time.
*swish* The arrow whizzed by with a rush of heat, missing her by a hair's breadth before exploding into a nearby pack of spirit beasts, sending flaming debris scattering across the battlefield.
Chen Zin snapped. "That's it!"
She stepped forward, flames roaring around her blade as she swung it upward, releasing a wave of scorching sword energy directly at Ming Yuelin.
Ming Yuelin jumped back with a graceful flip, avoiding the slash as she landed lightly on her feet, her smirk still in place. "You really need to work on that temper, Miss no name. It's going to get you into trouble."
"Oh, I'll show you trouble," Chen Zin charged at Ming Yuelin, slashing her blade horizontally, sending a wave of fiery slash toward her.
"That's how you want to play it?"
Ming Yuelin pulled the bowstring as the flames condensed into a bright red arrow and as she released it, it cleaved through the air meeting Chen Zin's slash in midair.
*THOOOMM* The resulting explosion of fire and energy lit up the battlefield, briefly blinding both women.
The cultivators and guards who were fighting were totally confused about the bickering that was happening.
Jen Wei also noticed her disciple's fight and raised her voice "Zin'er, what are you doing?"
"Do you know what kind of situation we are in right now?"
Hearing her cold voice, Chen Zin let out a sigh and glanced at Ming Yuelin "We will settle things after this."
Ming Yuelin just scoffed under her breath and replied in a mocking tone "Yeah, yeah... sure."
Hearing her tone, Chen Zin's lips twitched in exasperation 'I really want to burn her to coinders...'
Xue Hua dodged another attack from a spirit beast and came close to Ming Yuelin "Senior Sister... please focus. We are in a dangerous situation."
"Ah, my bad... "
They came to a temporary truce and continued their onslaught on beasts and soon they felt the beasts gradually decreasing indicating that the beast tide was coming to an end.
*thoom* In the midst of battle, the ground beneath them suddenly shook violently.
"GRAARGH!" The tremor was followed by a deep, rumbling roar that echoed through the battlefield.
Everyone momentarily paused, turning their attention toward the source of the disturbance.
Bursting through the forest, an enormous white-furred gorilla appeared, and in its right hand, it held a massive tree trunk that it swung effortlessly.
The ground quaked with each step the beast took, and its crimson eyes locked onto the cultivators below.
Before either Chen Zin or Ming Yuelin could react, the gorilla raised the enormous tree trunk high above its head, preparing to slam it down onto the battlefield.
*woosh* The sheer weight of the trunk created a gust of wind that scattered loose debris and sent the spirit beasts nearby scurrying in panic.
*BOOM* The beast swung the tree down with terrifying speed, aiming directly at the cultivators.
*fwish* However, before the trunk could make contact, a blur streaked across the air.
*swish* Jin Wei appeared in the middle of the battlefield, her sword gleamed in the fading light as she intercepted the trunk's downward swing with a powerful upward slash.
"Not so fast!" Jin Wei's voice rang out as her sword collided with the massive trunk.
*clang* The impact created a shockwave that rippled outward, momentarily stunning both the gorilla and the surrounding spirit beasts.
Her sword, empowered by a surge of wind element, sliced through the air, cutting a clean path through the trunk.
*thoom* The tree exploded into splinters, showering the battlefield with debris.
The gorilla bellowed in fury, its massive fist swinging toward Jin Wei, but she was faster.
With a graceful leap, she spun in mid-air, her blade flashing as it carved through the air, sending arcs of white sword energy toward the beast.
*woosh* Each slash carried with it the force of the wind, cutting deep into the gorilla's thick fur.
"GUUAARGHH!!!" The air howled as her wind-infused sword skill slashed across the gorilla's chest, leaving behind deep, glowing wounds.
The beast roared, and Jin Wei's eyes condensed 'This is not that beast either... this is in the 5th stage of Venerable Profound stage.'
'The presence I sensed was in the 9th level of the Venerable profound stage. Where is that?'
