Chapter 57: Imperial Military and...

Starfort Lycurgos, Rylon Star System, Alaric Star Domain, Ruusor Star Sector, Frontier Star Segment, Chronus Expanse

After finishing the cultivation season within the premises of the Dojo of Grandmaster Byrmellir, he went to the Office of the Imperial Military according to the Conscription Order of the Imperial Military of the Eternal Empire of the Asurya.

When he arrived at the Office of the Imperial Military, he went to the Office of the recruiter. The entire registration process wasn't something overly complicated, and after submitting his signature to several documents, he was officially conscripted into the Imperial Military.

When the registration was complete, Arcturus also received the next set of orders from the Imperial Military. Due to his special situation as he owned a very good spaceship and a whole bunch of advanced Battle Droids, he was given the order to remain on standby.

At the same time, he was also ordered to attend several courses through virtual reality, mostly on the basics of military strategy and tactics employed by the Imperial Military of the Eternal Empire.

"So you have decided to remain here?"

Just as he was preparing to leave the Administrative Office of the Imperial Military, he heard a rather familiar female voice in the lobby of the Office of the Imperial Military. Turning around, he saw the Bator-Commandant Irene Verinus Tarun, adjutant to the Bashar-General Varathar Medes.

Bator-Commandant Irene Verinus Tarun was also one of the members of the Military Officers in charge of adjusting the defenses of the Starfort Lycurgos.

Because Bashar-General Varathar Medes was in charge of defending the entire Alaric Star Domain, he entrusted the command of the Starfort Lycurgos to his most trusted subordinate and adjutant.

Starfort Lycurgos would be one of the key weapons and defenses against the Greenskins and Mind Flayers when they attack, so it needed to be commanded by someone competent and someone who had the utmost trust of the Bashar-General.

"Yes... though I must admit that the temptation to leave was rather strong, but at the same time, the temptation of the glorious war is even stronger."

Not just like him, but Arcturus had already found out through the Imperial NetSphere that most of the Star Mercenaries, Bounty Hunters, and some other privateers had already left the Alaric Star Domain or were in the process of leaving the Alaric Star Domain.

Not many wished to remain here when the news that the Alaric Star Domain had become a target for the Orkish WAAAGH! that was a big no-no for most of them because it was too dangerous.

Especially if there was a possibility of the Greenskins being led by some Byonder-Grade Ork with tremendous power. For the majority of the Star Mercenaries and Bounty Hunters who valued their very own lives above everything else, it was a logical conclusion.

On the contrary, there were also several Private Military Companies that were already heading towards the Alaric Star Domain. For them, this was a rather lucrative business when the Orks were going to attack the Alaric Star Domain. It was rather a big quest for money, so it attracted the attention of several Private Military Companies of the Eternal Empire of the Asurya.

"Hmm... I initially thought that you would leave. Even right now, only a few of the Private Military Companies from the Imperium are heading towards the Alaric Star Domain, the threat of the Orkish WAAAGH! and Mind Flayers."

Bator-Commandant Irene Verinus Tarun didn't really have the best image of the Star Mercenaries and others; it was clear to Arcturus from her voice and the way how she looked at him.

"Then it was a wrong assumption, Bator-Commandant Tarun. So, what are you doing here right now? I don't think that the Administration Office should not be the ordinary place for someone of your stature."

It was true because an officer with the rank of Bator-Commandant was too high for him just to wander around the Administration Office. That was typically reserved for the lower-ranked soldiers and lower Officers of the Imperial Military.

"I was just getting the last list of the conscripted. The number is really too high, and most people have chosen to leave the Star Domain. Practically 98% of the Star Mercenaries and Bounty Hunters left at the very moment when the Orkish WAAAGH! was announced through the Extranet."

It's not a really surprising number, in fact, though Arcturus expected that it would be a bit lower, whatever.

"Aren't you really nervous? Even my master told me that the battle within the Alaric Star Domain would be hard."

And that was already something that someone as powerful as his master would consider the fight hard. He knew that the Mind Flayers were a real threat because of the Orkish WAAAGH! wasn't that much of a threat in the end.

Even though the Greenskins were numerous, far more than the defenders from the Eternal Empire of the Asurya, their most powerful advantage.

With the technological capabilities of the Imperial Military and the weapons they have installed across the whole Star Systems, the Orks would be shredded apart the moment they arrive at the Alaric Star Domain.

Obviously, not all of them, but the space stations and various defenses were crucial in the defense against the Orkish WAAAGH! if they managed to prevent the Orks landing on some planets or to board their space stations en masse, it would be considered a a win.

One of the greatest weaknesses of the Greenskins was the fact that they were weakest when it came to naval warfare. They heavily depended on the overwhelming numerical advantage over their foes.

Their spaceships were rather primitive, utilizing rather primitive weaponry and their shielding technology was rather subpar even compared to some Low-Level Civilizations. Still, the Greenskins were able to contend even against High-Level Civilizations with the sheer numbers, and some of their WAAAGH!s were technologically more advanced.

"I am... as they say, fear is the mind-killer. We cannot allow ourselves to succumb to the fear, even though the threat of the Mind Fleet Leviathan is great; we cannot allow ourselves to falter in this kind of duty."

She answered as she adjusted her hair a bit, as they walked side by side from the Administration Office of the Imperial Military.

"That is certainly true. Though, I want to ask, are you free right now?"

Hearing the question made her stop in her tracks, as she stared at Arcturus with a neutral expression before she nodded her head.

"Then what about lunch? In the restaurant, of course, I am not really a fan of the canteen food from the Military."

Bator-Commandant Irene Verinus Tarun looked at Arcturus, scrutinizing the man from tips to toes, before she agreed to his proposal.

"If you are attempting to court me, note that it is a poor attempt at that."

Hearing that he almost cringed hearing that, probably interpreting his words vastly different, as it wasn't really his intention to court or anything. Not to mention, he could see that Bator-Commandant Irene Verinus Tarun was the type of person, who was straightforward in everything...

"No, it wasn't, and you can take my word for that..."

As he explained that, her expression didn't really change, always remaining the neutral one like before, though she now looked way less irritated than before.

"Then if you follow me..."

***

There were not really many restaurants or places for entertainment in the military facilities like the Starfort Lycurgos of the Imperial Military. In fact, they could be counted on one hand, and one of them was right there, several hundred meters away from the Administration Offices of the Imperial Military.

In the heart of a Starfort Lycurgos, nestled atop one of the skyscrapers of the Starfort, lay "Celestial Horizons", a high-class restaurant that offered an unparalleled dining experience; it was considered one of the best restaurants in the Alaric Star Domain.

The interior design was a blend of minimalist sophistication and futuristic aesthetics. Polished titanium and chrome accents adorn the space, complemented by luxurious, sustainably sourced materials. The restaurant featured an open-concept layout with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic views of the city skyline, twinkling with lights.

The furniture is an artistic fusion of form and function, with sleek lines and ergonomic designs. Tables were made of smart glass that can change opacity for privacy and are illuminated from within, casting a gentle glow that highlights the culinary creations.

For those seeking an even more exclusive experience, Celestial Horizons offers private dining pods that hover slightly above the main dining area. These pods, encased in transparent, soundproof bubbles, provide an intimate setting with 360-degree views of the city and the stars above.

The pods can be customized with various themes and settings, from a romantic starlit dinner to a futuristic business meeting environment.

It was probably the best one in the entire Alaric Star Domain, and because it was located within the Starfort Lycurgos, it was typically visited by high-ranking military officers or rich people passing by. The standards were very high, and Arcturus was rather surprised that they were mostly empty.
