Chapter 275: They're Coming
Chapter 275: They're Coming
Meanwhile,
"Is it a group of survivors?"
Lieutenant Trejo had already woken up because of the commotion happening outside, especially hearing the loud and familiar rumble of a truck.
He quickly got up from the sofa, and walked over towards the windows and peered down, looking at the darkness below.
With the moon hiding behind the cloudy skies, Trejo wasn't able to see anything clearly, but he could clearly hear someone or something fighting on the streets. Sadly, he can't make an accurate judgment if it was a group of people or just by their lonesome just from listening to the noises below.
"Who's so crazy that they are fighting zombies so late into the night?"
Trejo squinted his eyes and immediately noticed that the sound of fighting was actually very close to his location.
"What the heck? The noises are actually coming from the streets below," murmured Trejo while he quickly started checking his body and his weapons.
Then he finally remembered that he had brought night vision goggles with him and quickly went over to his bag and took it out before wearing it.
"Sh*t, my body is hurting a lot"
Trejo couldn't help but frown as he could feel that almost every part of his body was aching in pain.
If it wasn't because his body had already gone into mutation and that he was wearing his exo-suit, he wouldn't even be able to stand up right now, much less walk.
"Is no one coming to get me? I hope they didn't think I died fighting cause that would suck a lot"
While muttering to himself, Trejo carefully and slowly opened the door to the apartment, before peeking his head out to check the corridor if it's safe and zombie free.
Once he confirmed that there were no hostiles on sight, he exited the apartment and slowly made his way down the building, slightly limping as he walked.
Swoosh!
Alex was just about to smash the head of the zombie in front of him when suddenly a slimy tentacle-like thing shot towards him from the darkness and wrapped around his arm, effectively halting his attack and allowed the zombie in front of him to lunge towards him with its disgusting mouth opened wide for a bite.
"Oh no, you don't"
Ignoring the tentacle-like thing wrapping around his arm that's trying to pull him away, Alex just smirked as he made a fist, clenched it hard and delivered a powerful left uppercut to the zombie's chin, sending a decapitated head flying somewhere in the darkness!
"Zombies are really annoying when night falls" murmured Alex while looking at the zombies around him, before finally turning his attention back to the thing wrapped around his right arm.
He twisted his wrist around the tentacle and roughly grabbed it, and with a jerk, he pulled the zombie towards him while yelling, "Get over here!"
With his shout, a figure quickly came flying towards him in a helpless manner, and with his arm still wrapped around that disgusting tentacle that looks more like a tongue, Alex opened his hand and perfectly caught the mutated zombie by its head like a perfect basketball pass.
"You're the most disgusting of them all"
After leaving an angry comment, Alex immediately crushed the zombie's head like he was casually crushing a watermelon while on a picnic.
On the other hand, Trejo had successfully arrived at the ground floor after a little hardship on the stairs and managed to witness how Alex had easily crushed the head of that zombie into pieces.
Witnessing such a scene, Trejo immediately recognized the person the moment he saw him, especially when he heard the person's voice, which quickly proved that he had not mistaken someone else for Alex.
"Sir Alex? He personally came to pick me up? It seems like what I did earlier today really left an impression, and why did he sound like Scorpion when he yelled those words? I didn't know he's a fan of Mortal Kombat"
He knew that Alex was strong, but Trejo was really amazed at how bold Alex is in wandering the streets at night, especially when monsters and zombies alike during this time are far more stronger. Even his team didn't dare to venture out when the sun had set as fighting in the dark is really hard, it's like when the sun is still out, the world is only at hard mode, but when night falls, the difficulty turns into hell mode.
"Are you just going to stand there and watch? Get your butt over here and let's go!"
Standing there, Trejo then heard Alex calling out to someone, and he knows that he's the one he's talking to as the only good enough reason for Alex to be here this late could only be because of him.
He hesitated for a couple of seconds as he knows he's not in a condition to fight right now, but knowing that staying here is even more dangerous than crossing that simple street, he resolved himself and started walking forward like he was heading to some kind of war.
Alex had finally finished cleaning up the mess around them when Trejo finally crossed the street where the truck was after much difficulty and arrived before him, "What took you so long?"
"Anyhow, just get in the truck and let's get out of here before they catch up to us"
Trejo was just about to answer him when Alex quickly cut him off when he noticed something in the distance as Alex immediately urged him to board the large truck near them.
With a head still full of questions, Trejo endured the aching of his body and immediately went inside the truck from the passenger side.
With a start, the truck's engine roared to life as it slowly made a turn and drove to the main road and towards the direction of their temporary stronghold.
"What did you mean earlier sir?"
When they were finally a little further away, Trejo finally got the chance to inquire about what Alex had said earlier.
Alex glanced at him for a second and said, "Oh that, the zombies in that nest seem to have started moving"
Trejo was skeptical though, so he asked, "The zombie nest? That place was at least a few kilometers away from where we encountered each other though, so it would be impossible to know about it unless we have drones flying in the air or a satellite watching them from above"
Listening to his words, Alex just laughed and replied, "Instinct kid. Once you've gone through hundreds of battles like me, then you'll also be able develop an instinctive sense for dangers"
"Hundreds of battles?"
Dumbfounded, Trejo looked at Alex's green face through his night vision goggles. He was amazed and at the same time confused on how Alex had already experienced a hundred battles when they're group probably haven't even participated in more than thirty battles since the establishment of the colonies, and those were just small skirmishes against the zombies and monsters compared to the battle that took place in Washington.
'But how is he sure that the zombie nests are already making their move? Could it be that there were also others who had moved separately from him? What's more, how the heck is he driving so smoothly without any headlights?'
