Chapter 63: Hope to see you soon~
Chapter 63: Hope to see you soon~
Ever since Laila met the boy who further became her fiance she has made sure to look good in his eyes and do her best to be a good partner since she knows how much this relationship mattered to her father.
But Laila was someone Seth only despised. Being the near-perfect aristocrat he is, Seth always found Laila repulsive and full of demerits.
Someone whom Seth needed to always keep reprimanding about her silly mistakes and make her feel guilty for not being a worthy enough fiancee.
She knows that she was clumsy at times but that doesn't mean she doesn't get hurt by Seth's harsh remark. She has a heart as well...
In such a situation, she found herself getting attracted to a boy younger than her, who respected her choice and never looked down on her even Laila made errors.
She liked the boy's thought process and wanted to support him if she could by any means.
But this sudden annulment of her engagement with Seth brought her mind on track as she once again fell into a deep depression that it must be her unsightly behavior that Seth no longer needs her.
Even a little she thought that the past they share must have made Seth a little bit attracted to her. But no.
She was thrown since Seth no longer could tolerate her behavior of unbecoming a proper noblewoman. And Laila swallowed such reality even though there was a part of hers that didn't like it even a bit.
In her mind, she never hated Seth and was ready to be his future wife. And such a future came rushing down just because Seth felt like it.
But Laila was able to live with it, thinking that she was not deserving enough and Seth must have become fed up with her.
....she wanted to believe it...
Yet once again her expectancy was betrayed when her mother handed her the wooden box which she got from the Duchess.
"Can you explain what are these?"
In between the two of them, there was a centric glass table where Laila has arranged some of the things.
These things are pretty much broken and wasted materials but only Seth and Laila knew their importance.
Picking up a dried-up rose from the table carefully, Laila spoke in a weak yet determined tone without wavering her gaze from him.
"Isn't this the first present I gave you on your fourteenth birthday?"
Laila still remembers when they recently became friends and Seth invited her for his birthday. Her parents sent some presents but since she wanted to give Seth something by herself, she plucked a rose and offered it with a bright smile.
Seth at that time smiled as well, but that smile disappeared with time and so she believed the rose would have.
But she was wrong...
Wrong about so many things!
"And these are the pearls of that necklace which I accidentally broke when I came just before enrollment right? I still have the remaining pieces so don't lie to me."
Picking up the next glass-protected ring in her hand she continued.
"This is our engagement ring which you lied about and that you somehow misplaced it!"
"And this is the letter I sent you just for fun even though I had nothing particular to write."
"And this... *sniff*...this... I can't even remember this...!"
Laila didn't realize when her vision turned blurry and tears started sliding down her cheeks as she once again realized how much she actually mattered to Seth.
Even until their third year of Academy, when Laila gave Seth a broach that was kept in the box, signifying how much he treasures her thing even though they were so worthless.
She was feeling miserable regarding Seth as someone who never cared for their relationship. After seeing these many proofs there was no way she could believe that Seth was the same person he pretended to be.
"Tell me, Seth....why do you have these when you don't like me? When you hate my entire being? When do you think I am nothing more than a disgrace? When you had no issue breaking our engagement then why do you have so many memories of our past?! Tell me!"
"Because I no longer make you smile."
Laila's enraged temper took a pull back as she heard his still usual yet slightly softer tone from the other side.
She looked at him in disbelief, with her mouth still half open. But before she could have uttered anything Seth continued.
"I always tried to correct your mistake since I never wanted anyone to look down on you. And the fact I cared for such a thing meant I did love you, Laila."
**Ba*Dum**
Laila took a deep inhale as her eyes went slightly wide and her heart raced more than ever upon hearing the words which even she wanted she could not tag as a lie.
The seriousness in his eyes and the certainty in his voice made it impossible for Laila to pretend that he was lying or faking at the moment. But what Laila never could've prepared for, was his following words.
"But when I noticed that I am not the man who can keep you happy and make you smile like you used to, I broke out the relationship which was binding you with me."
There was no denying that the person Seth was talking about was none other than the first year who she has been meeting a lot these days.
A pang of guilt made Laila's heart clench since she believed that Seth was always busy with his work to concern with her daily life.
That meant only one thing...
"Listen Laila. We have now our separate paths so don't dwell on any kind of regret since I could understand in what circumstances you grew closer to him. And trust me, I am also doing my best to restrict my feelings for you as well. So, it's better we maintain our distance and treat each other like casual acquaintances."
Seth waited for her to respond but when he became sure that the girl wouldn't be talking any time soon, Seth got up from his seat and was about to pack the things spread on the table when suddenly Laila took a hold of Seth's wrist.
"What do you think you are doing? These things belong to me, no?"
Seth shivered to see such a lifeless gaze of Laila for the first time, which entirely betrayed her personality. Not to talk about that rigid hold.
With a wave of the hand, everything flew back inside the box before Laila got up from her seat after letting go of Seth's hand.
With the wooden box hugged closely to her chest she bowed with a cold smile as she bid her farewell.
"Hope to see you soon, President."
__________....
Seth was extremely tired of what has been happening since the evening. First the banquet then this girl who within minutes made a mess out of him.
The entire time Laila and Seth were conversing, there was a painful feeling weighing his heart but Seth was successful in shooing the girl and hoped she wouldn't approach him again.
Well, her behavior, in the end, was ominous but Seth didn't think much about it for now, and finally entered his room to have a rest.
....or so he hoped.
"My, my~ President is such a heartthrob~"
