Chapter 73 Chapter 57: Lover in a Dream

73  Chapter 57: Lover in a Dream

In a dazed and confused state, Yan Fei felt as though he had experienced a myriad of events and received countless messages, with all sorts of bizarre incidents playing out in his mind…

Not knowing how much time had passed, Yan Fei suddenly woke up. He opened his eyes and found himself lying in a hospital bed, his body wrapped in bandages, a needle in the back of his hand administering an infusion, and the pain and weakness in his body had completely vanished.

The ward was entirely white, the sunlight outside the window was bright and cheery, and the air was remarkably fresh. A female nurse in a crisp white uniform stood by the window. She was tall and beautiful, with a face that radiated innocence, embodying the essence of youth. She stood in front of the window, tending to the potted plants on the sill, watering them with a watering can.

The nurse looked at the plants with a gentle smile on her face. The rising sun cast its glow on her face, creating an extraordinary beauty.

Upon seeing the beautiful nurse, Yan Fei was instantly entranced; his heart rate increased, feeling that he had already fallen for this nurse. It was love at first sight, as the legend goes. He liked the nurse without any reason.

Just as Yan Fei's heart raced, falling deep into this moment of romance, the lovely nurse put down the watering can, returned the plants to their spot, and turned around to leave the ward.

In a panic and not knowing the nurse's name, Yan Fei said, "Wait... please wait a moment..."

Unfortunately, it seemed as though the beautiful nurse didn't hear Yan Fei speak at all. She walked straight past Yan Fei's bed, pulled open the door, and was about to leave.

Filled with excitement, Yan Fei feared he might never see the nurse again and shouted loudly, "...Wait, don't go..." Nôv(el)B\\jnn

The nurse abruptly stopped, looked at Yan Fei joyfully, and said, "That's wonderful, you've finally woken up!"

Yan Fei paused, then suddenly froze. This scene had occurred many times in his dreams, but shouldn't the nurse have ignored him, open the door, and leave, leading to his abrupt awakening in desperation? Yet, the nurse had just spoken to him and didn't leave like she did in his dreams. What on earth was going on? Could it be that he wasn't dreaming?

Seeing Yan Fei awake, the nurse immediately said, "Wait here, I'll call the doctor for you!"

Yan Fei was puzzled and did not stop the nurse's actions, but instead contemplated his current situation, as he had completely recalled that he should have been attacked by missiles launched by the US Army. Although he avoided the direct hit from the missile, he was still affected by the blast wave.

The blonde beauty was cunning, managing to distract him with conversation, leading him to talk with her more than necessary, preventing him from finishing her off in time and allowing her to call for a missile attack on him, nearly causing a catastrophic failure. All of this was a bloody lesson, but with this lesson learned, Yan Fei would make fewer mistakes in the future.

To dodge the missile attack, Yan Fei leaped into a bottomless abyss at a critical moment and passed out. Where was he now? How long had he been unconscious?

As Yan Fei pondered, he realized something was off about the room. He hadn't paid much attention before, but now he saw that there was a thin layer of plastic isolating his bed from the outside. The pretty nurse had been speaking to him from outside the plastic barrier. He was shocked, realizing this place resembled an isolation ward. Could something terrible have happened while he was unconscious, or could he have been captured?

While Yan Fei was immersed in doubt, a doctor in white entered from outside the room, but this doctor had a protective mask on his head. As soon as he saw the nurse, he chided, "Miss Wen Rou, this is an isolation ward; there's a deadly virus in the air with high contagion risk. You should be wearing protective gear like me."

The nurse named Wen Rou stuck out her tongue, embarrassed, and said, "I'm sorry, Dr. Bob. I just didn't want the patient to see me fully geared up; it could make them uncomfortable and hinder their speedy recovery."

Dr. Bob looked somewhat helpless and said, "Miss Wen Rou, I totally understand your concern for the patients, but you have to learn how to protect yourself. Otherwise, you won't be helping them, and you'll get sick."

Wen Rou lowered her head sheepishly and responded, "I understand, Dr. Bob. I will be more careful in the future."

Yan Fei watched the pretty and lovely Wen Rou, his heart pounding, marveling at how there could be such an adorable woman in the world. He felt a desire to cherish and protect her, to love her, and to bring her happiness. He was certain that he had fallen in love with her, not only in the recurring dreams but also in the real world. His affection for this woman had already blossomed.

Wen Rou spoke up, "Dr. Bob, look, this gentleman has come to."

It was then that Dr. Bob noticed Yan Fei with open eyes on the bed and said, "Sir, can you understand what I'm saying?"

Dr. Bob and Wen Rou had been speaking English, which he naturally understood. He nodded and said, "I can understand you. May I ask, doctor, where am I right now?"

Dr. Bob replied, "We are in Konado Town, at the border between Kenya and Tanzania. You're in a temporary hospital set up by our international medical organization."

Yan Fei asked, "What's the date today?"

After a pause, Yan Fei followed up with, "And what year is it?"

Dr. Bob checked the time and said, "It is May 26, 2018, noon."

Yan Fei checked the time and realized he hadn't experienced anything bizarre during his unconsciousness, though this time he had been out for 34 hours. He asked, "Doctor, how did I get here?"

Dr. Bob said, "Yesterday at noon, while we were on our way by boat to Aywei Village to check on the Ebola outbreak, Miss Wen Rou found you floating down from the river above the village. We rescued you to shore and noticed you were still breathing, so we brought you back to the Temporary Hospital. The reason you're in the isolation ward is that you were found in a heavily infected area, so we suspect you might be carrying the Ebola virus; that's why we can only observe you in the isolation ward for now."

Only then did Yan Fei understand the situation he was in. After falling unconscious, he must have dropped into the abyss and, surprisingly, landed in the river below, fortuitously saving his life. Then, he must have drifted downstream unconsciously until he was picked up by Wen Rou and her medical team and brought back here.

Yan Fei had been seriously injured before, but during his unconsciousness, his body's strong recovery abilities kicked in, causing the scabs on his wounds to fall off and concealing the extent of his injuries, so none of these doctors with Doctors Without Borders noticed anything odd and just treated him as a suspected Ebola patient.

The moment Yan Fei concentrated, he immediately felt the presence of his Drone Avatar. While he was unconscious, he had given the Drone's Auxiliary Brain a command to hide automatically, and although he had then lost consciousness, the Auxiliary Brain executed his command perfectly, hiding the Drone under the sea outside the coast of Kenya. After a 24-hour data refresh, the Drone was as good as new, waiting for Yan Fei's call.

Once he found his Drone Avatar was safe and sound, Yan Fei finally let go of his concerns. As long as the Drone had no issues, he had nothing to fear. Now, the only worry he had was whether he had been infected with the Ebola virus while drifting through the river passing the villages struck by the outbreak. He hoped he wouldn't be killed not by the powerful US Army but fall to this tiny Ebola virus instead.

Seeing Yan Fei looking worried, Wen Rou immediately comforted him, "Sir, please don't worry, we checked you for the virus as soon as we found you and didn't find any trace of the Ebola virus. We're just concerned that the virus might be incubating inside you, so we want you to be observed here for a while. If nothing unusual happens after three days, it means you're not infected, and you can leave."

Yan Fei immediately said, "Is your name Wen Rou? The name suits you; it's as lovely as you are."

Wen Rou blushed and replied shyly, "Thank you for the compliment. I'm normally quite lively and active. Oh, by the way, I didn't ask your name. How did you end up floating downstream from the upper river?"

Yan Fei said, "My name is Yan Fei, from China, 23 years old, unmarried, and without a girlfriend."

Yan Fei, taken aback, touched the back of his head and gave a silly laugh. As soon as he saw Wen Rou, he subconsciously took a liking to her and wanted to be close to her, so he tried to talk more with her. During their conversation, he wasn't as calm and collected as before and wanted her to know his relationship status.

Yan Fei said, "I came to Kenya alone for a vacation. I went to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, but got lost on the mountain. Then I slipped down the slope and passed out. When I woke up, I found myself lying here."

Although Yan Fei wanted to get closer to Wen Rou as soon as he saw her, he didn't tell her about his ordeal but made up a reason for why he was there.

Hearing this, Wen Rou said with a trace of fright, "You're lucky to have escaped danger, Mr. Yan Fei."

Yan Fei replied, "I must thank all of you for saving me; otherwise, I would have been dead."

Dr. Bob, who was nearby, said, "Okay, now that Mr. Yan is awake, rest well. We will conduct a thorough examination, and if we don't find any Ebola infection, you'll be free to leave. Oh, and if you need to contact your family, Miss Wen Rou will assist you."

Having said that, Dr. Bob left the ward, leaving only Wen Rou behind.

Yan Fei asked, "Um... may I call you Little Rou?"

Wen Rou smiled and said, "Of course, that's what my friends call me. Then, may I call you Little Fei?"

Yan Fei smiled, "I like that nickname."

Wen Rou then said, "Little Fei, do you need to contact your family back in China?"

Yan Fei replied, "No need, I've already escaped danger; I wouldn't want to worry them."

Yan Fei's parents had passed away, and his only friends were Lu Pingping and Yang Qi. But Yang Qi had enough trouble looking after himself, let alone caring for Yan Fei. As for Lu Pingping, she was busy with the Weight Loss Cookies issue and could hardly be asked to come to Africa.

Besides, Yan Fei had seen his dream lover in the Real World and had already set his sights on pursuing her, so why would he invite a few light bulbs to keep an eye on him?
