Chapter 44: XXII Magic Division (Book Two End)
"We will enter the magic division." Seeing Chloe had also the same thought as him, Elijah says. The Magic division was the best for them, as were usually positioned behind the warrior division and they would be able to stay low key.
The combat master gave a laugh of delight before standing up and grabbed his pen:"Good, now give your names and age so i can write on the list."
'I don't think is an good idea to use my real name here, right?' Elijah thought for a while before catching himself in time. "My name is Ryn, 16 years old." "I'm called Aryanna and I have the same age as him."
Although both of them were lying as they were only 12 years old. Since he use the power from that rune his body had grow much fasted than it was to grow. And growing in a noble family, his mentality was a bit more mature or at least more mature than boys of his age. As for Chloe, she was obviously more mature as she had memories from thousands of years ago, even if she slept most of the time.
And from what his father had said before to him, that the family was on high alert and they were bringing together a division of spiritual cultivators, and he knew that if the army discover his identity, he would no be able to enter the army so he decided to use a name he heard on his head before as It was unlikely that his family could discover him from it.
Very soon, the registration was complete, and she passed two wooden badges to Elijah and Chloe and pointed to the left of the plaza and said: "Okay, go over there to take the test for the magic division. As long as you pass the test, you will be an official soldier of our empire." Then she looked at Chloe and said in a voice that only Chloe could hear. "Little sister, take care with your brother as to not let him eat you up." Chloe's face suddenly redden while she walked with Elijah to the test area.
Walking excitedly to the test area, they could see six people there dressed in colored robes, custom protective wrist guards and a large hat on the head and a staff on their backs. This was the normal equipment for magi in the army, and the robes they were wearing emitted energy ripples making they seem rather valiant looking.
As there was no one taking the test at the moment, they were just talking between themselves. Even when his father was always good with him by nature, his grandfather was rather strict so Elijah was used to the army's strict disciplines as well.
As such, he and Chloe had read several books about war, strategies and the history about the famed generals from the kingdom.
"Hi, we here to take the test." Elijah and Chloe walked into the test area and handed their wooden badges over to one of the magi, and he looked at they and said "Well done, congratulations on choosing to join our division. Otho! Go and take the staffs so they could make the test!" The mage called Otho ran to the corner and walked back with two wooden staves and passed it to them.
"Here, take this and try to use it there." Otho pointed to seven stone pillars standing a few meters from them.
Elijah and Chloe took their staves and examined it closely. Elijah's staff was made out of Crunor Wood which had a reddish hue and was around 1.7 meters long, on the top of the staff was a circular shape red crystal. while Chloe's was made of a hundred year Dark Duskwood and was a bit shorter than Elijah's staff being around 1.4 meters long.
Rings wrapped around the entire staff with the exception of the handle, which has been decorated with a crosshatched cord. The top has been crafted into a rounded star shape, which has been decorated with a large orb that seems to give off icy charges at seemingly random times.
This sort of staff had been developed over the ages, so the mortal magi who could not use magic the the divine magi could cast their spells on their own way.
Every staff was made from the various mixed materials of ancient times in the forest to staves which were at least 1.4 meters long and having energy crystals on the top from where the spell is cast.
It has a max range of nearly 200 meters and depending on the mage it could had the area range of 50 meters, affecting anyone on this area.
As time passed, new tools for the use of magic were discovered, like grimoires and wands which were find in ancient tombs belonging to powerful experts from the past.
There was also a discovery that special types of wood like Crunor Wood made them even more powerful, making the importance of mortal magi widespread through the entire Continent.
Of course, there were also shortcomings for the staves, as it not only used energy from the mage but it also used from the crystal, so if one of the two energies ended it was impossible to cast spells. Making them fragile without the soldiers on the front protecting them.
Taking a deep breath, Elijah held the bow with both hands and closed his eyes. The crystal on top of his staff began to give a slight glow, he opened his eyes and pointed his staff at one of the stone pillars as a small energy bullet emerged from the end of his staff, making a hole on it.
The mage's eyes lit up and he exclaimed in praise. "So cool! Little brother, you must have probabily used magic before, and your use of magic was also very accurate. For us magi, as long as we have good accuracy and enough energy, we will never lose in the war. Now let's see the young miss over here."
Chloe looked at Elijah and give a evil smile as she had thought of something. She holds the staff with the her right hand and moved, shooting an wind blade which cut all of the stone pillars on the test area. Then she turned to everyone and asked. "It was good?"
The six magi were with their mouths so wide open that it was possible to fit dozens of eggs there. One of them murmured "My God." and the one who had tested them said."Are you asking if you was good!? If you was not good them every magi in the kingdom were trash. At least we have found two talented ones for our division."
After the test ends, Elijah and Chloe they returned the staves and sit down to rest. As using an staff was much more exhausting than using spells normally.
"Alright, that's enough. From now on you two are members of the third magic battalion. The third battalion is part of the five Magic Battalions of the Magic Division, every battalion has one thousand mages so we have around five thousand magi on the army."
The Thunder Hammer Kingdom army was divided into Squads, battalions and Divisions. Squads of dozens, Battalions of one thousand and Divisions formed from five Battalions.
The Mage said. "Alright, now go over to the camp outside the city to collect your equipment. Little bro, let me tell you that you are extremely lucky to be able to enter our battalion, as our chief is an famous mage." As he spoke, he give two stone badges to Elijah and Chloe as they leaved the plaza and walked to the city's exit.
