Chapter 65: Chapter 0063 What exactly can’t you do

“Ding dong! Task accomplished, patient’s wish fulfilled, and the traditional orthopedic technique is promoted, rewarded with 8000 points, and a Super Orthopedic Trauma Cultivation Gift Pack is given.”

This really is a super training technique. It was only after treating 5000 cases of forearm fractures that this unique skill was developed. Yang Ping sighed.

“Was it successful?” Li Jingshu asked in a small voice.

She was lying on the operating table. Although she could only see the ceiling, she could hear everything.

Yang Ping stood by the surgical bed, his gaze fixed on the C-arm machine’s screen, paying no attention to what Li Jingshu was saying.

Li Jingshu wanted to tug at him, but her left hand was immobilized in a splint. Her right hand couldn’t reach, and she was afraid to turn over in case she rolled off the operating table.

“Doctor Yang!” Li Jingshu’s voice was much louder.

Only then did Yang Ping hear her: “Oh! Are you calling me?”

“Was it successful?” Li Jingshu asked.

“Yep, you won’t have to go work in the Northeast now.” Yang Ping stated casually.

Li Jingshu was delighted; it was like being given a second chance at life after surviving a dangerous situation.

“Do you have tissues?” Li Jingshu asked.

Who carries tissues during surgery? Yang Ping took a pack of sterile gauze from the cabinet and handed it to her: “Use this, it’s clean.”

As he handed her the gauze, he realized she must be having trouble wiping her tears, given her left arm was fractured and her right had an IV needle in it. Yang Ping casually wiped her tears with the gauze, causing Li Jingshu to laugh foolishly a few times.

“Alright, let’s take her back to the ward now, making sure to adjust the tightness of the splint and pay attention to her circulation,” Professor Zhang declared firmly.

The X-ray displayed on the monitor left no room for dispute; both the radius and ulna bones were perfectly realigned.

“All finished here, everybody can come in now,” Director Ouyang called out.

The anesthesiologist and the patrolling nurse came in.

“Transfer her to the Overseas Chinese Building!” Song Zimo exclaimed. He had glanced towards Yang Ping several times. He had suffered two stunning blows in two days and was taking a hit to his confidence, temporarily unable to bounce back.

“Is there anything you can’t do?” Song Zimo finally couldn’t help but ask.

Yang Ping responded: “What do you think?”

Song Zimo glared at him.

“I’ll go and talk to the family,” Director Han said, clearly still in awe.

Xiao Mo also stared at the screen, stroking his chin, and only joined the group transferring the patient after Song Zimo urged him several times.

“Thank you,” Li Jingshu said as she moved to the wheelchair, pulling a funny face.

“There’s no need to thank me. Just avoid asking such tricky questions next time,” Yang Ping muttered under his breath.

The patrolling nurse, anesthetist, and Song Zimo escorted the patient whilst Xiao Mo stayed with Professor Zhang. Yang Ping, naturally, was held back until Li Jingshu had left the operating room.

Professor Zhang asked: “Where did you learn the ambidextrous technique?”

Yang Ping could hardly say: ‘The system’s super-cultivation technique, after treating 5000 cases of forearm fractures, finally cultivated this pair of magical hands.’

“Professor Zhang, you mentioned it in your book.” Yang Ping scratched his head.

“My book only briefly discusses the concept, without revealing any details,” Old Zhang replied earnestly.

Yang Ping said, “Those few sentences were enough. Ambidexterity is nothing more than doing two different things with each hand at the same time. When I had just graduated, I read your book and started practicing. When I didn’t have patients, I practiced with long bags of rice, hiding broken sticks in them.”

Professor Zhang nodded his head slowly, “Just doing two things at once,” he said, “You make it sound so easy.”

If it’s not practiced, will it fall from the sky? This is the only explanation. Thinking about it, this explanation is quite reasonable. But the fact that this could be practiced indicates a high level of talent and significant effort.

Professor Zhang looked at Yang Ping with a gaze full of appreciation and affection.

“Alright, let’s return to the ward together and chat while walking. Get a wheelchair and push me; my legs are numb,” Professor Zhang decided not to probe further.

Director Han patted Yang Ping’s shoulder, “Kid, I didn’t know you had so many tricks up your sleeve.”

Then, after letting out a few hearty laughs, he said, “Teacher Zhang, I have to pop over to the Overseas Chinese Building. This patient is the mayor’s daughter, and I have to check on her frequently.”

Professor Zhang responded with an “oh”, showing no reaction to the mention of the mayor’s status.

After bidding farewell, Director Han left. Director Ouyang, remembering that he still had a surgery to perform with Dr. Jin, also excused himself and left.

None of the people from the next room left; they probably didn’t dare to come in because of Professor Zhang’s presence. They were waiting for an opportunity to rush in, look at the X-ray film on the screen, and consult Yang Ping.

Xiao Mo brought a wheelchair from the operating room and helped Professor Zhang sit on it. Yang Ping pushed the wheelchair while Xiao Mo walked along. They went to the changing room to change their clothes and then headed back to the ward.

Mrs. Li, along with her assistant, was waiting outside Professor Zhang’s ward, with Dean Sun and Head Nurse Yao Ling accompanying her.

Seeing Professor Zhang returning in a wheelchair, Dean Sun and the Head Nurse immediately went forward. Dean Sun said, “Old Zhang, this is Li Jingshu’s mother, Mrs. Li, the Mayor’s wife. She insists on thanking you in person!”

Mrs. Li, radiant and slightly bowing, entered the ward with the wheelchair and said, “Professor Zhang, I can’t thank you enough. Our entire family is grateful to you.”

As someone experienced in dealing with all sorts of situations, her manner and speech were graceful and appropriate, which made everyone feel at ease.

“Oh! Why are you here? The patient has already returned to her ward.” Prof. Zhang said unexpectedly.

The situation was a bit awkward, but Mrs. Li, unfazed, continued to smile, “Indeed, Jingshu has just returned to her ward. Despite yourself being a patient, you didn’t hesitate to perform the repositioning surgery for Jingshu. We are extremely grateful. This is a small token of our gratitude, you mustn’t refuse.”

Mrs. Li took the gift box handed over by her assistant, placed it respectfully on the makeshift table next to the bed. There were two boxes of Korean ginseng.

Professor Zhang said, “The repositioning was quite challenging. Yang did a good job with it. The bone is fully repositioned now, but there’s still a risk of displacement. We cannot afford to take it lightly.”

Everyone didn’t pay much attention to Professor Zhang’s comment about Yang doing the repositioning. Mrs. Li assumed that Yang was his student, and it was perfectly standard for the student to perform the operation under the guidance of the senior professor.

Yang Ping and Xiao Mo helped Professor Zhang rise slowly and sit by the bedside. Professor Zhang waved his hand and said, “Don’t worry, I appreciate the sentiment, but take away these gifts. They’re quite expensive but not particularly useful to me.”

The situation was awkward, but Mrs. Li kept her smile and composed demeanor intact, not showing even a hint of displeasure.

Dean Sun quickly smoothed things over, “Mrs. Li, Professor Zhang has been practicing medicine for nearly sixty years and has never accepted gifts from patients. We should not break his rule.”

Mrs. Li immediately responded with a laugh, “I apologize for the imposition, I admire Professor Zhang’s integrity and code of ethics, so we won’t breach his rule.”

“Professor Zhang, you should rest now. We won’t disturb you any further.” Dean Sun promptly ended the visit. They made some small talk and then left Professor Zhang’s ward.

Little Five came looking for Yang Ping to take some photographs. Professor Zhang said, “You all go and do your work, I will rest for a while.”

Xiao Mo helped Professor Zhang lie down, Yang Ping tucked him in, and then turned off the room lights.

Head Nurse Yao Ling was holding a banner, “Come on, Doctor Yang, it’s a token of gratitude from your patient.”

Zhang Lin and Little Five stood on either side holding the banner, Yao Ling took the photos with Yang Ping in the center.

After taking the photo, they showed it to Yang Ping. Zhang Lin took a peek and said grumpily, “No beauty filter, this won’t do. It has to filter out the acne on my face. Let’s retake the photo.”

“You’re not the main character. Why do you want to look so handsome?” teased Head Nurse Yao Ling. But Zhang Lin was persistent, leaving her no choice but to retake the picture.

“Which patient sent this?” Yang Ping couldn’t remember.

“It’s the one who had an amputation at the construction site,” Little Five replied.

Zhang Lin was looking at the photo on his phone with a grin. Little Five commented, “Zhang Lin, you didn’t really participate in the rescue of this patient, why are you so keen on taking photos?”

Head Nurse Yao Ling responded, “If he doesn’t take the photo, how would he brag to his wife about patients giving him banners again?”

Zhang Lin immediately turned his phone away, “Are you peeking at my text messages? Do you have any sense of privacy!”
