Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf

Chapter 274 - Oath (7)

Luke had forgotten about it, but he had to give some sort of explanation regarding Nambra to his parents. They were the only ones he owed explanations to, after all. Still, it was hard to give any explanation about her and since she was so clueless and didn't show much reaction to anything, she probably would cause more problems if she opens her mouth.

"She doesn't look like Rina and Luthi," Julia added.

It was pretty obvious that Nambra was an elf from another world. The white hair was enough to make anyone suspicious. Still, the purple color of her eyes and extremely pale skin were other important factors. In any case, lying wouldn't do him any good, so Luke decided to be sincere… until a certain point. There was no need to reveal too much since it would cause misunderstandings in many aspects, it also would raise more questions and he didn't have time for that.

"She was an enemy that we defeated, while she claims to be different from the other overlords, I am keeping my eyes open for any changes on her behavior," Luke replied. "Once she was defeated, she asked to be spared and to join us."

"Is that so… being merciful is a good thing, everyone deserves second chances," Julia said and then put her hand on Nambra's shoulder. "I can see in your eyes that you hold no malice, so I welcome you to our group."

"Yes, ma'am, it will be an honor to work under you," Nambra said. "I am deeply grateful for your vote of confidence."

"You are very polite… but you don't have to be, we don't have hierarchy here," Julia said.

As expected of a kid's teacher, she sure knew how to make people feel comfortable. The only problem was the fact that Nambra still looked as deadpan as they come. He also realized that he would have to find her a house since she couldn't get small like Rina and Shalia. That probably won't be a problem since she wants to help, and he will soon check things in the dark elves world again. In any case, Luke wondered why he had to worry about such small things when he had so much work to do. It was only obvious, but life doesn't stop moving, even when someone has to worry about the problems of other worlds.

"When are we going back, big bro?" Danielle asked.

"... You should take a few days off, me and the others will only check things near the coast," Luke said while he felt the troubled eyes of his mother.

"I am not tired," Danielle protested.

"We aren't going to do anything for the time being, just check the coast, that is why I said that you should take a few days off," Luke said. "You can help the people here if they find a city that has been taken by monsters."

It was hard to convince a stubborn kid to rest when they could. Not a rest to recover from fatigue, but one that would make them stop worrying about things. Not like kids actually worry about things that often. Nevertheless, Danielle didn't insist since she also knew that she had to work to recover her own homeland. Things on Earth were fine for now, but for how long? After moving around so much, Luke's parents didn't find many people, and those that they did, weren't eager to join them.

"How are things going?" Luke asked after she approached his father.

"Pretty good, I am not sure if it is going as well as things are going for you," Mark said while looking at Nambra. "Nice to meet you, I am Luke's father."

"It is an honor, sir," Nambra said.

Mark wondered why his unpopular son was always surrounded by beauties as of late. Given that they didn't pass him any air of intimacy of adults between them, Mark assumed that Luke didn't make a move, for whatever reason. Which also didn't make any sense considering Luke's past. Nevertheless, even Mark didn't have the balls to bring up such a topic while those three were nearby.

"What do you think of our new passengers?" Luke asked.

"It is hard to say considering that we only know each other for a couple of hours, and I don't want to judge books by their cover," Mark replied. "Still, you probably inherited your suspicions from me, so I am keeping an eye on them."

Those two left everyone nearby and then headed toward the red crystal.

Things have been proceeding quite well, but it was time to do some renovations since they had new, possibly allies. Just in case, Luke increased the height of the main building so that the people inside could see from far away the others approaching. Luke also improved the walls and created the watchtowers as planned after landing the fortress on a field to get the necessary resources.

In any case, Luke improved the expansion, the mana shield, and the movement speed. The last two options were necessary to make the mana for moving and fighting more efficient, after all. All of those were at level three now, but Luke knew that their levels were insufficient. Frank had a lot more time to develop his fortress; he had no qualms on the methods to obtain strength. Maybe Luke should ask Nambra for some tips. She should have knowledge at the same level as that cloaked figure that joined Frank's side… There was a limit he could do just by sacrificing monsters.

"So, what is the deal with that new friend of yours?" Mark asked.

"It will be better if you don't know, dad," Luke replied and then sighed.
