Chapter 88: To Europe (4)
Chapter 88: To Europe (4)
Luke didn’t feel like talking, but Amanda and Celia were quite the chatterbox. Not to mention, they sat nearby him as if it was natural. Meanwhile, the other soldiers looked at them while frowning now and then. Unfortunately, Luke had to leave Arcanine behind because the others didn’t feel safe with a monster aboard.
“They don’t seem that concerned about us, even though they don’t have anyone with a partner here,” Shalia said.
“Come to think of it, that is weird,” Luke said. “Military, police officers, security guards… all of those had high chances of surviving the first day, and yet, no one of them was chosen by your people.”
“I don’t know about the dark elves, but we wouldn’t choose people that had a clear advantage over others, like these gun things you people have, they give a big advantage over ordinary zombies,” Rina explained.
“As for me, they are too disciplined,” Shalia said. “Their behavior and nature to follow the orders of their superiors while doing their job to protect the civilians wouldn’t fit with us.”
Luke nodded. It made sense, actually. Perhaps the fact that Frank survived and wasn’t chosen by the dark elves shows that he isn’t that chaotic.
Nevertheless, Luke waited patiently for the departure and also tried to get some sleep. He would need to be fully rested in order to make things happen as fast as possible in Lisboa. Once the time was done, Billy and Chloe joined them. It was quite surprising that she was willing to join the mission when she had just escaped the prison that he stayed in for a week…
“Fasten your seatbelts, kiddos,” Billy said. “This will be pretty intense for the first time…”
Once the plane began to move, Luke understood what Billy meant by that. The engine of the plane was powerful and noisy like nothing Luke had seen, not to mention, due to its size and weight, it didn’t feel like the plane would take off. Still, it did it… Luke had traveled in planes some times, but the feeling now was pretty different. He wasn’t on a trip, and he had a job to do before meeting with his parents.
Luke had planned to sleep during the whole trip, but in the end, he felt pretty well rested after just two hours of sleep. His body was improving, so he didn’t need to sleep all that much anymore.
“What to do… I am bored,” Luke thought since he didn’t feel like talking with others to pass the time.
Luke couldn’t train his active skills either, and since swinging his sword around might cause problems, he decided to try self-harm to increase his resistance. When he unsheathed one of his swords, everyone around Luke looked at him with dubious eyes. While he seemed strong, he was just a kid in the eyes of everyone… he still might be dangerous. Still, they frowned even more, when he began to hurt his left arm. His resistance, endurance, and pain Resistance had increased, but he still groaned when his flesh was cut.
“… What are you doing?” Amanda asked after she moved away from Luke a little bit.
“I am training… a very non-orthodox training,” Luke replied.
While Luke wasn’t showing it, it hurt like hell since his blood wasn’t hot. The adrenaline of the fights decreased the pain quite a lot… he waited for a while, and he saw the wound closed with his own eyes. Still, even though he had a higher regeneration than some monsters, the wound didn’t close as fast as them… was it because he was a human who just obtained that power recently? Or was the difference in their constitution that big? Nevertheless, Luke’s health was full after a couple of seconds. The wound only closed after five minutes passed… it seemed that the rare was one to one hundred. Still, it was hard to say since Luke got burned the previous day, and the wounds only disappeared because of Rina.
“Can you explain why the wound still remains open while my HP is full?” Luke asked.
“Think like this… when you get hit in a place, you suffer damage. If it opens a wound, then it means that such area will have a decreased defense if compared to the other parts of your body,” Rina explained. “The wounds close slower because your body recovers slower while trying to completely recover from it… while your health is full, if you get hit in the same spot, you will suffer a lot more damage than before.”
Luke knew that he would regret it, but he decided to test that… after a small part of his arm, he increased the size of the wound, and for a moment, he felt like he had cut a small part of his own soul… The first attack caused ten points of damage, but the second caused thirty. It was hard to imagine that he would die if he got hit and wounded ten times like that, but he certainly will pass out due to the pain. As one would expect, the wound took a while to close…
“Hey, Luke… stop that, man,” Billy said. “You are worrying me.”
“To prevent more damage in the future, I have to summer some damage now,” Luke said. “For a drop of sweat dropped in training, I prevent losing one drop of blood in battle… even though I am already losing some blood already.”
“Still…” Billy said.
In the end, Chloe explained what happened when they destroyed the crystal. Defeating the horde of zombies had been easy thanks to Luke, but the Red Fangs caused them quite a bit of trouble. They even made Luke lose his mind for a moment and burn almost his entire body. It was hard to picture that, considering that Luke was completely normal. Still, everyone knew that Chloe had no reason to exaggerate. In any case, while it seemed like he was being praised for his accomplishments, Luke made a mental note to prevent doing that kind of thing in front of others again… he didn’t want to be the subject of anyone’s conversation.
