Vol. 2 - Chapter 7.5 - Instructor Leos' Lesson (5)
The angels were all alike in appearance, but there was only one angel that carried four wings on its back and was enveloped in a silvery light aura. It floated behind Zhaviest as if it were his guardian spirit.
"Kakaka. I can't believe how pale your faces have turned despite your early composure—! Roughly 7,000 units!"
Then Zhaviest looked up to the heavens and shouted, acting as if he was drunk on his power.
"Kneel down, Demon Lord's army! This is the 'Heavenly Power'! The power of the Saviour chosen by God, sitting at the top of the world!"
(I-I didn't realize they had a military force of such a degree!)
In hindsight, Serphiano's decision to gather half of the Demon King's forces in the Imperial Capital was a wise one. However, it still wouldn't be enough to fight with the army of angels in front of her.
Nephira and almost the entire demon lord's army could not hide their dismay. However, amidst all this, Serphiano's calm voice coming from the giant crystals rang out.
"Do not be deceived. The scale is preposterously enormous. However, this is a spell. If you kill the sorcerer, all the conjured angels will vanish. He is our only enemy! Kill Zhaviest, and it will all be over!"
She strengthened the tone of her voice at the end. And then the Demon Lord's army roared, "That's right!"
(You are collected, aren't you Serphiano? And you're right. If we cull the bastard called Zhaviest, victory will be ours.)
However, the other side was also exceedingly aware of it. It is hard to imagine how many sacrifices will be necessary to reach Zhaviest.
At that time, Nephira's thoughts were interrupted by a loud voice that rang on the battlefield.
"It is as Lady Serphiano has said! I hear that the angelic race died out a long time ago! In other words, they are nothing more than a deceptive, showy imitation without substance created by humans!"
A Cyclops, several meters in height, matching the loudness of its voice, was shouting. The giants' races behind him roared in response. The Demon Lord's Army's Giants Corps——— a military faction of huge-bodied fiends, led by Giganboss.
"Giganboss. Do not approach carelessly. Let's start by throwing a boulder at it and see what happens."
As soon as Serphiano gave the order, a cart arrived with a large number of boulders.
Giganboss' soldiers easily grabbed the boulders, which were bigger than the head of a man, with one hand and tossed them toward the throng of angels.
However, the angels dodged the boulders with a gentle smile and a nimble flutter.
"You little, bastards!"
Giganboss, enraged, rushed headlong into the fray, heedless of Serphiano's attempts to stop him. The giant soldiers under his command followed suit.
"Don't hide in the back, come out, you human!!"
He shouted towards the flock of angels. But the next second, Giganboss was down on one knee. Above Giganboss' head, an angel laughed, "Hoho, hoho, hoho, hoho.".
"Ah… Ah, Gah…!"
Giganboss, a hulking giant boasting tremendous strength, fell to the ground helplessly. Foaming from his mouth and remaining motionless. Angels also flew over the heads of other giants. One after another, the mighty giants fall over as if they were having a heart attack.
Kiru, next to Nephira, shouted.
"H-He's been felled!? Without being able to do nothing!!"
"An Angel's drain?!"
(Moreover, they died almost instantly. What a nuisance)
Nephira looked at Serphiano's reflection in the giant crystal. After lightly shaking her head at the Giant Corps who had ignored her orders and rushed into the fray, her attitude changed and she gave out new instructions.
"Black-Death Sorcery Division. Please perform an artillery sorcery assault."
Upon receiving Serphiano's order, the demon bishop sorcerers unleashed a variety of magic against the angels. The flames undulated like snakes, and arrows of ice rained down on the angels. However…
"Impo…"
Serphiano growled. The smiling faces of the angels continued even when the magic attack hit them. It seemed as if there was no damage.
(Are they immune to the dark energy unleashed by the demonic race?)
Nephira wrinkled her brow. Fire, Ice, Earth ——— or any other attribute, the magic of the demonic race was always tinged with their dark attribute. And the same was true about Nephira's lightning strikes. Strictly speaking, Nephira's lightning was a "dark lighting attribute."
(My lighting strikes would probably won't work on them either. Even if they did, they would be less than half as effective, right?)
"Their affinity is the worst."
Nephira muttered. Giganboss said they were "showy imitations without substance" but that can't be farthest from the truth. Depending on how you look at it, they may be more powerful than the angelic race that once existed.
"Attention, everyone. I have analyzed these angel chaps to have one-to-one power equivalent to a Dominion-class angel."
Serphiano announced solemnly. Kiru gave Nephira an inquiring look.
"Dominion-class angel, what did she mean?"
"Simply put, it's an angel with about the same level of combat power as Meru and you."
"Ohh, I see——— I mean, t-there are 7,000 of them!?"
(It is the same thing as dealing with three companies of the Demon King's army's Imperial Guard Division. The city will probably be destroyed.)
Nephira looked at the four-winged angel standing behind Zhaviest.
(And one more thing, that aura is different. That one is a commander. A Cherubim-class angel, I'd say.)
"Heavenly Power… A power that specializes in killing us, the demonic race."
Nephira whispered those words so the Thunder-Lance Charge soldiers would not realize her inner turmoil.
