With a loud commotion, the young men seated around all stood up, scrambling to flee the scene.

It was as if they were afraid that if they stayed a moment longer, their boss would slaughter them!

Only Sang Nian.

Was half a beat slow to react.

Lu Xiao turned his head to look at him and asked coldly, “Not leaving yet!?”

Sang Nian meekly raised the steamed bun in his hand: “Boss, I haven’t finished my food yet…”

Captain Roared, “Scram!”

Only then did Sang Nian, holding onto his steamed bun, hurry out.

In an instant.

There were only the two of them left in the small cafeteria.

Once everyone had left, Lu Xiao gradually calmed down his rage, but he did not look at the woman opposite him, continuing to eat quickly.

It seemed as though he wanted to finish his meal and leave quickly, not wanting to stay in front of her for long.

Wen Xian slightly raised an eyebrow, the corners of her lips holding a smile that was not quite a smile.

Only now did she continue to eat her meal at her own leisurely pace.

Ha, as if they could compete with her, if she lost, how could she live up to all the mind games and scheming of the city.

The Captain finished his meal quickly, stood up and took his tray to its designated place.

Wen Xian seemingly focused on eating, but her gaze couldn’t help but steal glances at him now and then.

Not going to lie, although Captain Lu Xiao is rather severe, it doesn’t detract from the fact that his physique is truly fierce, particularly that posterior, really is—

“Miss, look here, I just baked some sweet potatoes, would you like some? They’re really sweet,” the cafeteria auntie came over enthusiastically, offering her sweet potatoes wrapped in newspaper for her to choose from, incidentally interrupting her bold gaze.

Wen Xian quickly averted her gaze, smilingly thanked the woman and picked out a fragrant sweet potato.

After returning her tray, Wen Xian held the small sweet potato, eating as she walked to the door of the first-floor jurisdiction hall to look around at the environment.

By the doorway, Lu Xiao was outside smoking.

It was getting dark, the red and black hues of the sky merged, blending like a watercolor painting.

He stood there, his back straight, one hand in his pocket, with a long finger holding a cigarette, smoking.

The crimson glow of the cigarette tip flickered, his fingertips occasionally tapping off the burnt ash.

His gaze was fixed on the distance, as if lost in thought.

Wen Xian stood at the doorway, looking at his resolute profile and the aloof aura emanating from his entire body, and she felt an itch in her heart, inexplicably wanting to provoke him.

The amenities in the yard of the jurisdiction area were not very good; aside from being clean, the facilities were somewhat outdated.

The big gate made of red bricks was dimly lit, and between patches of fallen plaster, the original yellow paint could still be faintly seen.

Two broken tires and an old-fashioned bicycle were piled up in the corner of the yard, a few yellowed newspapers thrown in the bike basket.

After taking in her surroundings, Wen Xian made a couple of clicking sounds with her tongue, then said with a sigh to the Captain, “No offense, but is this place so backward? I thought you were all impressive considering how tough you act.”

On hearing this, the Captain glanced at her indifferently, emotionless, “If you don’t want to stay, you can leave.”

No one is stopping her.

Wen Xian walked up to him, stared at him and said, “I can leave, sure, but what about my car? Thanks to Captain Lu Xiao, my Mercedes is flipped over in a ditch, and I have no idea what state it’s in now; someone has to take responsibility, right?”

As she said this, she didn’t forget to take a bite of the sweet potato.

Lu Xiao’s eyes faintly fell upon her, just about to say something, when suddenly someone entered the yard of the jurisdiction area from outside.

In the half-darkness of the early evening, Old Li from the reception room returned, with a little puppy following him, carrying something in its mouth, trotting along with short little legs.

“Ha-ha, Captain Lu, I finally managed to get this little wolf pup. This little thing loves sweet potatoes, look how delicious it eats,” Old Li played with the wrinkly-faced pup and said with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Wen Xian, who was enjoying her sweet potato, paused mid-bite.

Then, she looked down, silently observing the sweet potato in her hand.

Wen Xian: “…”

Captain: “…”
