Chapter 38 - Magical Barrier
"No, Lucas. That is exactly what scares me. The moment that I saw you, I saw only you in the basement. Nothing else. This is truly frightening indeed. This Marquess has invested heavily in this head quarters of hers for it to sheild sights away from even me. Michael, can you not smell it?", Praneeth looked at Michael.
"Do you think that I wouldn't tell you guys immediately if I had smelled blood? Things are not looking good for us. Who did you battle Lucas? How do you know of this information? It might be fake. If you have already fought with someone, then alarms would have sounded. All of this just looks like a big trap.", Michael did not like this one bit.
"That is highly unlikely..", Lucas frowned. "I listened close. I know better than to take someone's word. I listened to his heartbeat, and it did not even flinch when he spoke to me. These were the rants of a dying man, not some psycho plan. And, even if this was a trap, what can I possibly do Michael? All of you. The moment I saw those poor children, I had to come here and go on a rampage. Waiting for the lot of you to come was respect enough. I am going in. Are you coming in with me?"
"Think again Lucas. You might not be thinking straight in all this rage. If you die, then you are going to take this whole city with you. And forget all that, you are going to DIE! Get your shit together.", Eva, who was quiet this whole time snapped at him.
Lucas, who was walking towards the building already, stopped for a moment. He turned back. The council members looked at him with fear and stepped back instinctively. Lucas' eyes were completely red, not just the pupils, and it freaked everyone out.
"I was patient, and I waited for you guys to arrive so that when I was done with all of this, you would be next to me and made sure that you did your job. What I did not wait here for is a lecture. I know that I am not thinking level headed, but do you think that I even care? For a decade, I watched a little kid grow up, and that kid dies in front of me, and it was because I thought that all of them betrayed me as well. All because I was compassionate that one day and took in a stray who was going to die. You tell me, what you would do right now? I am going in and no matter who stands in my way, I will slaugter my way through to get to Peter, and I will rip his head off of his shoulder. And not for a moment am I joking.", Lucas snarled. He turned back and started walking inside the building.
The council members looked at each other, the hesitation clear in their eyes.
"Are we really going to follow him in? As a werewolf, he might have supernatural regeneration, but we certainly do not. I do not want to end up dead.", Angela asked everyone.
"What can we possibly do? The moment that he goes full berserk mode, we need to be there and chain him up almost instantly, or we will lose him for the next week. Do you want that to happen? Last time that happened, a whole city was ravaged.", Mu Chen sighed.
"I hate this job", Arthur grumbled as he took the first step forward. Seeing this initiative, the rest of the members followed suit quickly. All of them started moving behind Lucas slowly, and entered the building. The moment that they reached the permimeter of the building, and were entering it through the opening, they felt a ripple through their body. All of them stopped and glanced at each other once more.
"No one told me that this place was going to be sealed.", Eva said, her face ashen, She tried stepping back, but her leg couldn't move further. It was as if there was an invisible wall that was stopping them from moving.
Lucas, who apparently heard them, stopped moving and looked back. He was also clearly shocked. He disappeared from his spot momentarily and reappeared right next to Eva. He frowned as he looked in front of him. Reaching his hand out, he thrusted it forward. it passed beside Eva and beyond her.
"Magic barrier? I would know. It does not work on me so I could not sense it.", Lucas looked at it curiously. "Maybe it does not work on werewolves?", he pondered.
"I felt the barrier as well when I passed through it. And, no, my hand does not pass through it like yours did. This barrier affects all of us, and only does not work on you. It was as if we were all targetted for this one.", Michael shot down Lucas' idea.
"All of us should calm down. We are the strongest mortals who were ever granted powers. Surely a simple trap cannot stop us if we all stick together.", Praneeth said.
