The Blue Eyes

Chapter 42 - BLUE10122021

Early in the morning, Kevin was already in the laboratory to work. His other coworkers had not yet come to the place, but he was already busy with the smart monitor on his desk. He deliberately got up early and went to work early.

But, he still lost to Kris, who was not beside him when he opened his eyes. He was confused and looked for the tall figure all over the house, but a sticky note stuck on his aquarium gave him an answer.

["I go outside to meet someone today. Don't miss me."]

Those two sentences were enough to make Kevin blushed. He didn't remember what happened last night. It seemed that he immediately fell into dreamland after he laid on the bed, and he only knew that Kris laid beside him. Ah, remembering that only burned his cheeks.

He couldn't stop thinking about how he dropped his pride for asking Kris to stay last night. 'What's wrong with me last night?'

Shaking his head to erase his embarrassment, Kevin then returned to focus on the monitor in front of him. He decided to harden his heart and read the rest of his mother's journal.

["June 21, 2000. This is bad. Joseph managed to find a formula for creating the evolution of werewolves. After twenty years of working for it, he finally found a formula that can restore the minds of werewolves and can give them the ability to change their form at will. The werewolves now can even take on the shape of a human. Will the world end because of that?"]

Kevin was stunned. It turned out that Kris was telling the truth last night. The evolution of werewolves did not run naturally, but there was human intervention in it.

In 2000, his father and his mother were not married yet. His parents were too busy with their research to the point that they just got married when his father was 45 and his mother was 44 in 2005.

Since the two professors were married at such a late age, his mother's fertility rate had decreased, and they had difficulty having children.

Other scientists, who were professionals in their fields, made various efforts so that his mother could get pregnant in 2010. At that time, his mother was already 49 years old.

The news about his mother's first and last pregnancy at the age of 49 shocked the whole country. The technology in the field of medicine was still not very advanced at that time, so the ability of scientists to create formulas so that his mother could eventually become pregnant at late age was a great achievement.

Opted to forget about the history of his birth almost 27 years ago, Kevin finally returned to reading his mother's journal.

["January 1, 2021. This is a new year, and we should have enjoyed the time with Kevin like any other family, but today was the first day the werewolves attacked all over the world at Joseph's orders. It was the first day of the great war between humans and werewolves that shattered the warmth of the new year. Today, Joseph also told me that he was working on a mega-project."]

["March 30, 2021. Amid the ongoing war, Joseph was still busy researching in the laboratory. Today, he told me about his mega-project which he coded BLUE10122021. It was a project Joseph had been planning since last January.]

Kevin was stunned after he read the writing. 'A mega-project coded BLUE10122021? But, isn't that the password of my mother's email? And, that's Blue's birthdate. Is there a connection between Blue and the mega-project? What happened on December 10, 2021?' He used his brain to analyze.

He suddenly walked to the shelf where all the documents related to werewolves were stored. He kept looking, and finally, he found a document. It was a document that recorded the war seventeen years ago.

Kevin's hand swiftly opened the pages of the document until he reached the back of the document. It said that the war between humans and werewolves officially ended at 3:24 AM on December 10, 2021.

Kevin's legs felt limp. It turned out that his father's mega-project code referred to the last day of the war.

After finding the truth, Kevin returned to his smart monitor to look for other clues, but he had to be disappointed because the last article he just read was also the last writing written by his mother.

He sat limply in his chair. 'Is it true that there are no other clues? Is it true that everything ends here? So, what is Blue's relation with everything?'

Blue. Kevin suddenly realized something, and he wanted to ask someone about Blue's past.

The tall man took off his laboratory coat, then grabbed his gray cardigan and put it on. He also snatched his phone and his wallet.

He then walked hastily out of the laboratory, but he almost collided with someone at the laboratory entrance if only his legs didn't stop in time.

"Senior? Have you recovered?"

It turned out to be one of his juniors. Her name was Anna Torsney. She was the one who he asked to deliver his request letter to the laboratory manager some time ago, and also the one who gave him the news about Andre's death.

"Are you really alright, Senior? But, how can you recover in just one day?"

The question of the female junior made Kevin frown. He felt better today, so he decided to go to work. His head was still covered with bandages, but he didn't feel the pain anymore.

"What do you mean? I wasn't badly injured, so I can go straight to work today," Kevin finally answered.

It was the girl's turn to scowl. "Not badly injured? Are you kidding me, Senior? Even your car was crushed, and the news about your accident was also spread through electronic media. Don't you know about that, Senior?" The junior asked again.

Kevin fell silent. He remembered when Kris told him that he didn't have a severe accident and that his car had been taken to the repair shop. Kris said he could use the car again after it was repaired.

'Did Kris lie to me?'

"You okay, Senior?" Anna asked with a worried expression.

Kevin finally woke up from his reverie and answered, "I'm fine, but I have to go somewhere now. You did well, Anna."

He immediately left his junior without waiting for the junior's response. That made his junior stare at his departure in confusion.

Kevin's car was broken, so he took a taxi to go to work this morning. This time, he would call a taxi to take him somewhere. But, before that, Kevin needed to confirm something.

The scientist was busy with the cellphone in his hand. His eyes were staring sharply at the screen of his phone, which was displayed news about his accident yesterday.

He read the writings written by the journalist. The journalist also included a photo of his car that was destroyed in the accident. True, the car was destroyed and looked like it would no longer be usable even after being repaired.

The news described how hard Kevin's car hit an electric pole and how big an impact the accident had on the car Kevin was driving. The news also stated that Kevin was unconscious and his head was bleeding profusely. Anna was right, he had a very bad accident yesterday.

'But, why did I recover so quickly?'

The hospital also allowed him to go home right away. Kris also said that he wasn't badly injured.

Kevin felt mixed emotions in his heart. He returned to reading the news for a moment, then immediately hailed a taxi. A taxi stopped right in front of him, and he immediately got into the four-wheeler. He mentioned his destination to the driver, and the taxi drove straight onto the asphalt.

The scientist decided to change his destination. He would go to the hospital first, the hospital where he was treated yesterday. He read about the hospital from the news about his accident.

The taxi stopped in front of the hospital building. Kevin paid the driver, then hurriedly ran toward the lobby.

He arrived at the reception desk and immediately asked a female nurse, "Is it true that the car accident patient named Kevin Beischel was treated here yesterday?"

The nurse was surprised to see Kevin's sudden arrival, but she did not comment and immediately checked the patient data on the computer.

After she found what she was looking for, she instantly looked up at Kevin and answered, "That's right, the patient was treated here yesterday."

"Who is the doctor responsible for treating him?" Kevin asked again.

The nurse read the writing on the screen and answered, "Dr. Louis Javernick was in charge of the patient yesterday."

"I want to see Dr. Javernick now," Kevin said sternly.

"Sorry, Sir. Dr. Javernick is not on duty at the hospital at the moment."

The answer inevitably made Kevin feel disappointed, but he did not give up and asked again, "Is it true that Dr. Javernick allowed the patient to go home yesterday?"

The nurse once again looked at the data on the monitor screen, then hesitantly looked at Kevin again and answered, "Actually, someone asked the hospital to let the patient go home yesterday. That person filled in a statement that stated his willingness to be responsible if something happened to the patient."

The answer inevitably made Kevin surprised and upset.
