Chapter 74 - BLUE IS BACK
"It's your father's fault."
That was what Kris said hours ago when they were in the underground parking lot. The four words were still ringing in Kevin's mind. At that time, he was really overwhelmed by Kris's stern answer.
["My mother's name is Adley Allaband. She was a soft-hearted woman, and she was different from other werewolves. Just like my father, she was a werewolf from the first generation as well. But, since she gained consciousness in the 2000s, she no longer wanted to hunt humans for food. Her heart was too tender to hunt humans."
Kris's expression looked solemn when he recounted the story. He gazed ahead instead of looking at his lover, who was still sitting beside him.
"During the war seventeen years ago, my mother didn't want to attack humans. In contrast, she often secretly helped humans from werewolves' attacks. The climax was when she leaked the secret regarding the location of the werewolves' base and secretly asked the human soldiers to invade the laboratory used by our parents. She knew about the rotten plan that was carried out in the laboratory."
Kevin was still listening to his lover's story without intending to interrupt. He finally understood why the laboratory was suddenly surrounded by the human army. The army then pressed the Beischels pair and Mike, and Joseph was forced to carry out Plan B by asking human soldiers to blow up the place so that he could escape by faking his death.
"But, there was one of your father's men who knew that my mother was the one who had secretly made a report to the human soldiers. He is Mario Doxon, your father's right hand, who has a unique birthmark on his temple. Mario was once a soldier in the human army, but he resigned and chose to betray humans. When the war happened seventeen years ago, he was no longer s soldier, but he disguised himself as a soldier and brutally killed my mother. That's what happened seventeen years ago when you tried to save my mother."
Kevin was stunned. He still clearly remembered the female werewolf, but he didn't know the background behind the cruel murder of the lady.
"It was my mother who did all that during the war seventeen years ago, but my father had no clue about it. Instead, he thought that I was the one who betrayed the werewolves, and that's why he can't trust me anymore."]
That was the completed story.
Even though Kevin now knew the truth, he still felt guilty because he could only watch weakly when Kris's mother was brutally killed. If only he had been stronger at that time, surely Kris wouldn't have to lose his mother. And he regretted it even more because it turned out that the one who killed the woman was his father's subordinate, which indirectly meant that his father was the cause of the death.
"Didn't I tell you to stop blaming yourself?"
The voice that came from beside him shattered Kevin's reverie. He reflexively turned to the left and found Kris sitting behind the wheel.
The air was so hot today. The sun shone brightly without any clouds shading it. It was a rainy season, but there was no rain in the past few days.
They were on their way to the orphanage this afternoon, and it turned out that now Kris's red car had stopped in front of the building that used to be Kevin's residence until he was 17. They already reached the place without Kevin realizing it.
The shorter man sighed, then began to unbuckle his seat belt. "My father has committed many crimes, but you still won't label him as a bad person. I don't understand you, Kris."
Kris also unbuckled his seat belt and smiled a little. "It's because he's your father, that's why I don't want to label him like that," he said softly. "If one day you decide to forgive your father, then I will do the same and forget my grudge against him and Mario Doxon."
Kevin was astonished and peered at the burly man with a look of disbelief. If he were Kris, he wouldn't easily forgive the person who caused the death of his mother. He probably wouldn't go so far as to kill the person, but he wouldn't condone the person either.
But, Kris looked honest and rightful this time. The werewolf was staring at him intently. Kevin didn't see the hint of doubt or lies. His lover was telling the truth this time.
"You don't have to do that, Kris," he said as he ducked his head.
The guilty feeling crept into his heart. It was like dark clouds that shadowed his weak heart. The dark clouds were ready to pour, just like Kevin's eyes that were also ready to drop salty liquid.
He could hear Kris's sigh, and a moment later, Kris's warm fingers lifted his chin tenderly. The tan-skinned man forced him to look into his eyes.
"That's the past, Kev," Kris whispered to him. "I was indeed sad and angry at your father, but I believe that my mother is in a better place now. She is no longer feels the dilemma because of my father, and she no longer feels the pain. I believe that she is happy now."
A tear dropped from Kevin's left eye, but the scientist quickly wiped it with the back of his hand.
Kris's sincere tone caused a ripple in his heart. He was relieved to see Kris was alright now, but at the same time, he felt bad for the other man.
"I won't ask you to forgive them, Kris," Kevin finally replied. "If you want to have your revenge, I will not hold you back. You have the right to get angry, Kris. You don't need to hold back because of me."
Kevin had made a resolute decision. Even if Kris hated his father and would never forgive him, then Kris had the right to do so. He would always be on Kris's side no matter what decision he would make.
He still stared at Kris, but the man didn't respond to his words. The taller man just smiled at him without saying anything.
But, even though Kris didn't say anything, Kevin could read what was on Kris's mind from the latter's gaze.
"You love me that much, Kris?" The scientist asked. A hint of crimson red manifested on his fair cheeks.
That was what he saw in Kris's eyes. It felt like Kris had written the word 'love' in his eyes. If that was not quite right, then Kris had painted a heart symbol in his obsidians. The love was so obvious that Kevin could easily read it.
Kris chuckled and gently ruffled his lover's jet-black locks. "Yes, I love you that much. Why? You feel lucky, hm?" Asked the caramel-haired man with a teasing tone.
Kevin snorted softly and pulled his head away from Kris's hand, then immediately opened the car door and walked toward the orphanage building, leaving Kris, who was still laughing amusedly in the car.
But, it didn't take long because the handsome man immediately ran to catch up with his lover.
The two men finally arrived at the living room of the orphanage, and it turned out that Selena and Blue were already there. The girl's blue eyes sparkled as soon as she saw Kevin's figure, and she immediately ran to hug the handsome scientist.
Kevin was surprised to get the hug, but his hands moved to return the beautiful girl's hug. "It looks like you really miss me, Blue," said the young man.
Blue didn't reply to Kevin's words verbally and just nodded her head quickly. Of course, the girl missed him so bad because they hadn't seen each other for a month, and during that time, Blue was very much depressed between the possibilities of life and death.
"I'm sorry, Brother."
Kevin frowned at the sudden apology. He lightly pushed the girl's shoulder and looked at the girl's blue eyes. "Why are you apologizing for all of a sudden?" He asked confusedly.
"Because I was so mad at you that I finally wanted to come with Jack. You're actually right. I'm the one who's wrong for hating Uncle Kris too much for no reason."
The one who was called 'Uncle Kris' was a little startled when his name was suddenly mentioned by the blue-eyed girl. Kevin turned slightly to him, then looked back at Blue with a smile. "Shouldn't you also apologize to Uncle Kris?" He asked teasingly. He knew for sure Kris was annoyed by the word 'Uncle' coming out of his mouth.
Blue hesitantly turned to Kris, and her lips parted and closed several times. It seemed that the girl's pride was still high, so it was not easy for her to say sorry to the man she used to hate so much.
Kris noticed that, and he smiled knowingly. He then walked over to Blue and Kevin, then used his hand to ruffled Blue's raven hair. "No need to apologize. You're innocent, and I'm not angry with you," said the tall man.
Blue looked up at him and stared at him for a moment before she said, "Yes, of course, I'm innocent. The one in the wrong is you because you acted like a criminal all the time!"
